When the baby was born, did you feel his genitals on your chest? Because I'm having a surprise gender and that'll kinda ruin the surprise .

OP posts:
Fabellini · 01/09/2015 14:03

How long are you planning on waiting to find out? I'd have thought once baby is born then it's pretty much game over!

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 01/09/2015 14:04

No I don't recall that.... But I wasn't particularly concentrating on whether I could feel a little baby penis or not.
Do you mind me asking when you are going to find out the sex? I thought most people had the surprise at the moment of birth (& am being nosy about your plans!)

Lweji · 01/09/2015 14:05

I knew he was a boy, but I don't remember feeling any genitals. They are tiny anyway.

Do you want to have a big uncovering or something?

Micah · 01/09/2015 14:05

They usually announce the sex as the child is born.

If you don't want anyone to tell you you'll need to make that known.

But yes, how long are you planning to wait to find out?

Pootles2010 · 01/09/2015 14:06

Erm, no, but I was a bit out of my mind on drugs. When are you planning on finding out?!

Eh? How long were you planning to wait!?

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 01/09/2015 14:09

And actually, you are finding out the sex. Gender isn't a polite word for sex.

NoMontagues · 01/09/2015 14:09

In answer to your question- no, I didn't feel his genitals on my chest.

BeautifulLiar · 01/09/2015 14:10

Nah didn't feel them. But girl's genitals are ridiculously swollen anyway and look a bit like something else.

AbeSaidYes · 01/09/2015 14:10

Babies balls are MASSIVE.
So they say

It took me 8 months to realise my son only had one.

You'll be ok.

msgrinch · 01/09/2015 14:11

eh?

bulletpoint · 01/09/2015 14:11

Why would his genitals feel any different to any other part of his body? if you have opted to have your dc placed on your chest straight after birth, how on earth would you expect to know which part you're feeling is his genitals? Hmm sorry but this is a daft thread.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/09/2015 14:12

I don't know about baby boys' genitals being small, lweji. Both my sons' plums were huge! Midwife said it was summat to do with my hormones and they'd go down a bit. They did.

Also nosey as to when you want the surprise to actually occur. Surely the moment you are actually handed the baby then if you haven't been told by the midwife then you have a look yourself? Seconds later. What does it matter if you feel some plums and discover a few seconds sooner than if you'd lifted the blanket and had a look?

DS1 was wrapped up first. I didn't know what he was for a minute or 2 and then thought "oh what have we had?!" And had a look under the blanket.

YouBastardSockBalls · 01/09/2015 14:13

Da FUQ!?

Heathcliff27 · 01/09/2015 14:14

No I didnt feel anything but by that time my DH had looked and then told me what sex baby was. I wanted him to see first and tell me, midwife knew this.

peggyundercrackers · 01/09/2015 14:15

in another post you said you already have DS so you would know the answer to your question surely?

Baby girl and boy genitals swell sometimes because of the extra maternal hormones and excess fluid. (The fluid also gives them that cute puffy face)

My son's balls were literally massive at birth but I didn't feel anything.

Very odd question though.

YouBastardSockBalls · 01/09/2015 14:17

Plus the odd thread title kind of implies this is a man asking.

ToTheGups · 01/09/2015 14:17

Erm no.

Another echo of how long are you planning to keep it a surprise?

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 01/09/2015 14:18

Libraries why is gender not polite?

No I can't say I noticed that op but I knew I was having a boy and so wasn't paying it much attention.

PatrickJaneIsRedJohn · 01/09/2015 14:18

Creepy. No other words.

BrendaFlange · 01/09/2015 14:20

You can SEE your baby (unless of course you are visually impaired?) as they lift it up to wrap / do the AGPAR check, or if you are upright, on all fours or in water.

Our midwives did not 'announce' the sex, I think they are discouraged from doing that these days,.

As far as I recall a baby on your chest feels like a warm wet blob. Especially as the baby was on my lower stomach - even more of a warm wet blob.

I have now read your other thread and I think if you have to go to the lengths of imagining the specific feel of a newborn's genitals on your chest in this plan about 'the big reveal' you might possibly be overthinking it a bit.

But I hope you have a lovely birth, and enjoy your newborn. Smile
