HELP...having contractions...

Ilovemyboy · 26/11/2006 23:14

I had a show at about 2pm today.

Have been having contractions for the past couple of hours which starts with pain in my back which leads to period type pains which leads to tummy tightening.

I am trying to time them but getting confused. Should I be timing them from the start of the pain itself or from when my tummy tightens? And do I time it from the beginning of a contraction to the end or to the beginning of the next one?

Eeeek...

lol, Berkshire Cant sleep

sounds like more of the show... but maybe ring MW to double check?

Quootiepie · 27/11/2006 03:35

hows contractions? regular? how painful?

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 03:38

Hi Ali. Thanks for the support. I need it. I have left DP snoring which is the best place for him.

I have woken up with what feels like bad period pains. I'm attempting to time them. I will go back to bed in a bit and see if I can get some more sleep.

Don't feel like I will be able to get comfy again though.

even lying down semi snoozing is good x

mamama · 27/11/2006 03:43

Ooo, I saw this thread earlier and it had gone quiet... Good luck - I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Let us know how you get on.

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 03:45

Just checked - no more blood. So it was the rest of my show. Sorry if tmi bit there was loads of it.

Should I ring the midwife or should I not bother?

Back to timing contractions...

loads? I would ring MW... might be cervix? Id double check xxx

Quootiepie · 27/11/2006 03:47

sorry, you said it was mucussy...(sp?) so it prob. was show.

Quootiepie · 27/11/2006 03:47

id say ring, just to give her update...

Alibaldi · 27/11/2006 03:48

Second that too. I had loads of blood with my first show and thought it was a major issue. No show with ds2 he just popped right out. Give them a ring, that's what they're there for. Try some deep breathing to help you relax and focus and that way get some more sleep.

Quootiepie · 27/11/2006 03:49

if you have radio in room, pop on classical FM relaxs me, and thats saying something

mamama · 27/11/2006 03:52

I'd call the MW if I were you, just to let her know. I didn't have a show with ds, so am not much help with this.

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 03:55

Just called the midwife and she didn't seem too concerned although my baby is going to have to wait until the morning to be born as they don't have anyone to come out to me tonight.

I don't think it will be anytime soon anyway. I feel good...just a little achey.

I'm finding it hard to time contractions because they seem all over the place. I'm going to try and get some more sleep.

Thanks guys. Will keep you updated if anything changes.

Sleep well xxx

Alibaldi · 27/11/2006 03:58

Good luck for tomorrow and sleep tight. If all else fails wake dp and get him to massage your lower back for you.

mamama · 27/11/2006 03:59

Hope the baby hangs on then! Doesn't sound like it (boy or girl?) is on the move quite yet - just thinking about it, so hopefully you'll be ok. Finger's crossed it doesn't change it's mind before the MW can get there.

Hope you get some rest.

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 04:15

lol. Tried to sleep but contractions definitely more painful and regular when lay down.

Back to timing them...

I might wake DP up. The cricket is on so it is an extra incentive for him to get up. I'm trying not to move about much as I don't want this baby coming before the morning.

OP posts:
Alibaldi · 27/11/2006 04:24

Um the cricket might put him in a bad mood. Try to sit and breathe in for five and out for five. Close your eyes and focus on something peaceful or even get a candle. This is a form of Yoga Meditation and really helped me through the contractions. Especially as I had no gap between mine. I'm still here btw.

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 04:30

I didn't realise the cricket had finished. Oh well he can watch the highlights.

Just using the Contraction Master. It's a good bit of kit.

I am contemplating going to the 2hour Tesco for some last minute bits. Don't think DP would be up for it though.

OP posts:
Alibaldi · 27/11/2006 04:32

Excellent idea. Why not - 24hr Tesco. Get everything in you need now. There'll be no time tomorrow. Just do as Luladoula says whatever you feel like that's what's important.

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 04:35

Contractions 5 mins apart.

The midwife said that if I have 3-4 in 10 mins then I should call her back.

They are not that painful.

I'm going to have some toast. Stock up on my carbs while I can still eat.

Alibaldi · 27/11/2006 04:39

Right, have you got a contigency plan since you said they've got no cover for home birth. Don't want to put a dampner on your plans, but Baby could put in an appearance.

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 04:53

I haven't really got a plan with regard to going to the hospital but will be pretty peed off if I have to go in.

I have been to the loo and lost a bit more blood. Could this still be my show? It isn't bright red as such...just red and mucusy.

OP posts:
Alibaldi · 27/11/2006 04:56

That's what mine was like only I was lying in a hospital bed so it went all over the sheet only saw it when they moved me to delivery from pre-natal assessment. Listen it's nearly 5am your time so you should be okay to go through now. TMI but have you felt the urge to go to the toilet other than pee yet?

Ilovemyboy · 27/11/2006 05:00

I have only needed to pee. No pushing urges or anything like that.

The contractions are defo more regular and noticeable now. Oooh I'm so excited.
