Paper knickers

Hi girls, sorry to bring this one up, but I was talking to a girlfriend today who is 6.5mo pg and we were talking about things to pack and she asked about paper knickers.. well I said I didn't use them and preferred to be in 'my own' with a hefty night pad and didn't really see why you'd want to have disposable knickers...

Why would you want diposable knickers? Are they really a benefit?

Sorry, remembered to say bring some flipflops for the showers but didn't even think about saying 'pack some paper knickers'

[will completely understand if I don't get any replies to this!]

yeargh yeargh to paper knickers , just get really really big cheap ones from asda, who wants to be more uncomfortable than they have to !!!

melsy · 27/04/2004 21:21

ooh god ditn realise it was you a bit drunk on red wine !!! hows u ?? were all in the bar!

Angeliz · 27/04/2004 21:22

Yep, i just got big granny knickers too, you need something soft after the birth!!!

popsycal · 27/04/2004 21:22

i had both.......and was glad
paper knickers are not comfortable but more practical for the first few days.......then cheap 'granny' knickers after that

always night pads were great though after maternity pads for first few days

Codswallop · 27/04/2004 21:23

yes get big ones

M othercare
and get the monster pads and then "always ultra" night for after

princesspeahead · 27/04/2004 21:25

paper knickers are the ultimate indignity. live dangerously - buy 3 packs of 5 large knickers from M&S and chuck them out if necessary after wearing them. £20 well spent.

karen99 · 27/04/2004 21:26

Yes yes yes! Cheap granny knickers! You can throw them away if you want, but atleast they're soft... and another vote for Always night pads!

Hiya Melsy.. may come into the bar for a quick one..

hated paper knickers in fact still have 4 left in the cupboard, just thought i'd add and happy to be told i'm wrong but my midwife said no to always and other plastic backed ST's if you've got stitches something about sweating and moisture not being able to escape?

bighug · 27/04/2004 21:50

definitely a paper knickers fan for a least the first 24hrs after giving birth. Although I felt a bit guilty about the environment, I loved just being able to pull the whole lot off, blood and gore stained pad and knickers, all in one go and chuck it all in bin. Otherwise you've got to stash the bloody knickers somewhere in your hospital bag to take home and wash. And however often I checked the pad, it always seemed to have overflowed to knickers, in those first few hours.

popsycal · 27/04/2004 22:08

i agree entirely with bighug

lydialemon · 27/04/2004 22:17

Sorry, another vote for old knickers and always pads. I tried paper knickers with DS1, and you rustle! No, definitely not a crispy knicker fan

carla · 27/04/2004 22:18

Def paper knickers, worn to the tune of ... what's her name ... Paper roses... paper knickers .... an Osmand ..what was her name??? Marie! that's it!

SoupDragon · 27/04/2004 22:25

Oooh, I loved my disposable knickers - Boots ones. Nice and soft and roomy. I don't understand what you are all on about as mine weren't paper at all. It was wonderful to be able to ditch them without a feeling of guilt. I would have felt guilty about throwing away "proper" knickers (but that's just me).

babster · 27/04/2004 22:30

I used paper ones too for the first couple of days and it was great to just bin them merrily - although whichever way round I put them on, they never seemed right... oh, and if anyone's thinking of buying any, forget what size you normally are - just get the largest ones!

Bozza · 27/04/2004 22:33

Well I've bought some paper knickers and also a 7 pack of white briefs from Asda for £3.50. Actually already been wearing them because they are quite comfy but will not be bothered about chucking them. When I had DS I bled a lot - flooded all over the floor and my slippers when I first got out of the bed. Also because I'm supposed to be having a big baby the midwife says it will likely be a large placental site which means a lot of bleeding again.

Bozza · 27/04/2004 22:35

Actually unlike babster I found the large ones I had last time were too loose so have gone for medium this time.

Also unconvinced Always would be sufficient in the first few hours after birth although have stocked up on some for the subsequent days.

florenceuk · 27/04/2004 22:49

If you don't like idea of paper, NCT sell stretchy mesh ones which are very light and soft, dry very quickly, and expand to fit any post-pregnancy body. I found they seemed to hold the pad a bit better than normal knickers.

carla · 27/04/2004 22:56

You're all mad, and so am I. You'll want to throw away anything you've had during your birth!!!

deeno · 27/04/2004 22:58

Paper ones great for first couple of days but like Bozza I would definitely recoomend Asda pack of 7 - ded comfy. With dd I had c-section and they pulled way above scar
