I can't decide what music to take in with me.

Any suggestions?

Something by The Cutting Crew?
(sorry)

jabberwocky · 24/10/2006 10:20

Don't take anything you like that much.

DS1's section was a bit of a nightmare (although we're both ok), as a result I've not listened to the Portishead album that was playing at the time since. It's been five years. I do miss the music, but suspect I'd get a bit upset if I listened to it.

NotQuiteCockney · 24/10/2006 10:24

Oh, and take a few CDs and let the surgical team pick. It's only fair.

jabberwocky · 24/10/2006 10:25

I was thinking of burning a variety. My OB mentioned that she really likes Elvis Costello, so definitely have to have a few by him

gosh - it seemed to go so quickly for me - don't think I would even focus on music - dh and I just chatted with each other, the surgeons and theatre staff - and before you know it - I was in recovery. First time was an emergency and it was pretty stressful ( ill baby) so the chatting was reassuring - even the jokes the surgeon told.

Moomin · 24/10/2006 11:01

I've had 2 sections and chose an Easy Listening compilation for both. The theatre staff sang along and there was a lovely atmosphere even though I was nervous as hell and it helped. I even tried to sing along the 2nd time which took my mind off things a bit esp when I was having the spinal.

When the surgeon came in for dd1's section Mack the Knife was playing (honestly!)

It also meant the dds were born to music that makes us smile when we hear it now: dd1 was bor to nat King Cole, Let There Be Love and dd2 arrived to the strains of Doris Day, Move Over Darling, which we thought was quite apt!

I defo think it helps to have something to focus on when things get going and esp in the early stages when things are a bit clinical and you need some reassurance. I took Artic Monkeys to an MRI scan recently as I knew I'd be able to concentrate on the words and block out the scan which was a bit freaky. Music definitely helps.

Good luck with the c-s. x

Birthday by the Beatles

ginmummy · 24/10/2006 11:40

How about your and your dp's "song" as it will hold more happy memories for you!

Good luck with the cs!

JoolsToo · 24/10/2006 11:42

I was going to suggest The First Cut is the Deepest but mary beat me to it

think I'd go for something classical myself - more calming

JoolsToo · 24/10/2006 11:42

unless it's the 1812 overture

jabberwocky · 24/10/2006 16:41

Good suggestions,keep 'em coming!

I like the Nat King Cole idea. I am a closet fan of Dean Martin

Well, guess I've outed myself now!

Good luck, Jabberwocky. I remember your first birth story. And I'm sure this one will be a fab experience. I just tasked DH with CD burning duties and took whatever was playing. DS was bor to the words "jer it out"... lovely. On second thought, perhaps you are right to be choosing the music yourself.

Boowila · 24/10/2006 16:53

DS was born to the words "jerk it out...

EliBoo · 24/10/2006 16:53

Hey Jabber.

Last time, I had a beautiful, serene, recording of various classical pieces designed to calm and soothe....but somehow, we ended up with James Taylor's Hourglass Not quite sure how that happened.

Do love Nat King Cole, been years since I heard any. I think anything that touches you, and is mellow and not too fast for babe's sake, would be great.

Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong?
Love and Happiness by Al Green?

Bibliophile · 24/10/2006 16:57

Kooks by David Bowie?

aDadOnMumsnet · 24/10/2006 16:58

nothing by the Saw Doctors, just in case

EliBoo · 24/10/2006 16:59

And nothing that sets your OBs teeth on edge too much - remember who's holding the instruments (non-musical)

jabberwocky · 24/10/2006 16:59

That's sweet of you to remember me, boowilla (I wondered what your Halloween name was - still can't remember to change mine!)

LOL at jerk it out.

elliboo - I actually have Hourglass, but it was given to me by ex-bf so....can't use that.

Bibliophile - will deffo add yours to the list!

Lyrics to Kooks

Bibliophile · 24/10/2006 17:04

What A Wonderfull World

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Bibliophile · 24/10/2006 17:05

That last bit makes me want to cry! So does Kooks

Will you stay in our Lovers' Story
If you stay you won't be sorry
'Cause we believe in you
Soon you'll grow so take a chance
With a couple of Kooks
Hung up on romancing

Will you stay in our Lovers' Story
If you stay you won't be sorry
'Cause we believe in you
Soon you'll grow so take a chance
With a couple of Kooks
Hung up on romancing

We bought a lot of things to keep you warm and dry
And a funny old crib on which the paint won't dry
I bought you a pair of shoes
A trumpet you can blow
And a book of rules
On what to say to people when they pick on you
'Cause if you stay with us you're gonna be pretty Kookie too

Will you stay in my Lovers' Story
If you stay you won't be sorry
'Cause we believe in you
Soon you'll grow so take a chance
With a couple of Kooks
Hung up on romancing

And if you ever have to go to school
Remember how they messed up this old fool
Don't pick fights with the bullies or the cads
'Cause I'm not much cop at punching
Other people's Dads
And if the homework brings you down
Then we'll throw it on the fire
And take the car downtown

Will you stay in our Lovers' Story
If you stay you won't be sorry
'Cause we believe in you
Soon you'll grow so take a chance
With a couple of Kooks
Hung up on romancing

Will you stay in our Lovers' Story
If you stay you won't be sorry
'Cause we believe in you
Soon you'll grow so take a chance
With a couple of Kooks
Hung up on romancing

Will you stay

Ooh, First Time Ever I saw your face by Roberta Flack (NOT CELINE DION!!)

First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love,
To the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
And felt your heart beat close to mine
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command.

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love
It would last till the end of time my love

The first time ever I saw your face, your face,
your face, your face
