I can't decide what music to take in with me.

Any suggestions?

Love it! I've got to go to work, but would love any more suggestions.

I knew I could count on MN

Isn't she lovely Stevie Wonder...

Or just choose any beautiful uplifting song about love! Stuff you played at your wedding maybe, if that applies.

hollyhobbie · 24/10/2006 17:50

This idea is copied from an old, old episode of ER, but I still think it's quite a nice birth song...

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

(The Beatles, of course!)

after a non-serious suggestion lower down, felt I should have a constructive one!

Welcome to My World by Elvis?

Welcome to my world,
Won't you come on in
Miracles, I guess
Still happen now and then
Step into my heart
Leave your cares behind
Welcome to my world
Built with you in mind

Knock and the door shall be open
Seek and you will find
Ask and you'll be given
The key to this heart of mine

I'll be waiting there
With my arms unfurled
Waiting just for you
Welcome to my world
Welcome to my world

Hush little Baby, don't say a word,
Daddy's gonna buy you a mocking bird.

If that mocking bird don't sing,
Daddy's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

If that diamond ring turns to brass,
Daddy's gonna buy you a looking glass.

It that looking glass gets broke,
Daddy's gonna buy you a billy goat.

If that billy goat don't pull,
Daddy's gonna buy you a cart and bull.

If that cart and bull turn over,
Daddy's gonn buy you a dog named Rover.

If that dog named Rover don't bark,
Daddy's gonna buy you a horse and cart.

If that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the bestest baby in town.

Boowila · 24/10/2006 17:58

Okay, it's really just for the chorus, but I love this song:

LOVE OF THE COMMON PEOPLE
(Hurley/Wilkins)

Living on Government hand-outs
Water in the milk from a hole in the roof
Where the rain comes through
What can you do? You can't move

You got tears from your little sister
Crying cos she don't have a dress without a patch in
For the party to go
Aw, but you know she'll get by cos she's....

(Chorus
Living in the love of the common people
Smiles through the heart of the family man
Poppa's gonna buy you a dream to cling to
Momma's gonna love you just as much as she can
And she can

It's a good think you don't have bus fares
They would fall through a hold in you pocket and you'd lose 'em
In the snow on the ground
You gotta walk into town to get a job

Trying to keep yourself warm
But the hole in your shoe lets the snow comes through
And chills you to the bone
So you better go home where it's warm and you can

(Chorus)

Living on dreams ain't easy

pucca · 24/10/2006 17:58

They just had on smooth FM when i was having my section...tbh i don't think you will really care at the time.

jabberthefriendlyghost · 24/10/2006 20:12

Very nice dadonMN. I am an Elvis fan and wanted to put one of his on there.

btw, I liked your funny one as well. Crossed posts, didn't mean to ignore you!

lemonAIIEEE · 24/10/2006 20:33

"Forever Young"? (I'm partial to the Pretenders' version myself, but there are others)

lemonAIIEEE · 24/10/2006 20:40

So partial, in fact, that I wanted to suggest it twice...

moaningpaper · 24/10/2006 20:42

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or if they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
Hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is now you're in the world

(Your Song - Ewan McGregor's version I like best)

aDadOnMumsnet · 24/10/2006 20:45

Jabber - great, glad you're getting some useful suggestions!

jabberthefriendlyghost · 24/10/2006 21:18

MP, I must be getting more hormonal later in the day. Just got all teary eyed at Your Song

Moomin · 24/10/2006 22:13

Make sure you've gots loads of songs on the cd though in case you're hanging about for any reason. With dd1 I was in theatre 55 mins before she was born, although with dd2 it was 30 mins. make sure every song's a winner!

jabberthefriendlyghost · 24/10/2006 22:39

Good point!! I hadn't thought about that.

Littlemissbusy · 25/10/2006 16:19

We had Classic FM on the radio - we did joke about choosing "It cuts both ways" though!

becaroo · 26/10/2006 11:10

Some fab suggestions here! How about "Love of my life" by Carly Simon? I always well up when I hear that chorous. Or something classical. Canon in D major by Pachelbel is one of the most beautiful melodies ever written, begins so quietly and slowly then builds to a wonderful climax. Handel is also good. I listened to Meatloafs "Bat out of Hell" cd for most of my pregnanacy but my dh banned it from the delivery room! Good luck

jabberthefriendlyghost · 26/10/2006 11:36

Dh loves meatloaf! I may have to add a song from that CD just for him.

A colleague at work suggested I'm Coming Out by Diana Ross

helenmelon · 26/10/2006 11:49

During my ecs, I asked for "The long and winding road" by the beatles (had been a bit of a long labour) - told the doc "well, it's too late for 'Push it' by salt n pepa!!!!!"

jabberthefriendlyghost · 26/10/2006 12:11
Smile
helenmelon · 26/10/2006 12:26

If only I'd thought of "The drugs don't work"...(The Verve)

Loulou000 · 26/10/2006 13:55

You get to choose music???

helenmelon · 26/10/2006 14:00

Yes - unfortunately, for my ecs, I only had my ipod and no speakers, but they had a cd player for us to play something. My dd was born to some dodgy 80s classics cd - can't remember the exact song, but hope it wasn't "Going Underground" (The Jam). (Am loving this thread - am loving getting all my bad jokes out!!)

aDadOnMumsnet · 27/10/2006 09:07

take me out - franz ferdinand
beginning to see the light - velvet underground

couldn't manage another serious one
