How small can a show be?

An hour or so ago I went to the loo and found a tiny little pale green lump, like a bit of snot. However, it seems as though a show normally tends to be much bigger than this. But what else could it be? It was perhaps 1 or 2cm in size. Do you think that the bigger the show, the nearer the onset of labour might be?
I keep running to the loo to check if there's any more, but nothing! Starting to think I imagined it! I am 40 weeks + 1. Any advice really appreciated!

Sounds like what I had on Friday, have since had contractions every night all night and another show on Monday, but no baby yet! - Good luck though

lulumama · 18/10/2006 16:47

no - thats a show!!

mine started small,, then went on and on for days,,every time i went the loo!! don;t think the size matters...but it means cervix is starting to dilate and thin out...so its definitely a positive...esp as you are 40 +1.....BUT - a note of caution..you might have to wait a while for baby to come.....but it is a sign.....rest as much as you can, stay positive and wait for baby...

katyjo · 18/10/2006 16:51

Yeah, sounds like a show to me!! I paid mine no attention as I thought it had to have blood in it, my waters then broke a day or so later, but I thought I had just wet myself (only small amount of fluid-hind waters apparently) so I didn't go to the hospital for another day and a half! I would give the hospital a call - your baby is on the way not long now!! XX

sorry - computer was a bit slow, didn't mean to post three times!!
Just excited for you!! XX

blob2be · 18/10/2006 16:52

Oooo, how exciting! But then don't want to get too excited as obviously could be days yet! Hard not to get a bit hyped up though. NatalieJane, how many weeks are you? Are your contractions painful - are they BH? Was your second show bigger?

Yes this sounds like the show I had with my DS, had the show on Monday, waters broke Tuesday morning, had DS Tuesday night (5 weeks early while I still should have been in work!).

Good luck
x

That's no prob Katyjo, you posting 3 times makes me feel extra special! xxxx

That's interesting Tippytoes - seems like a lot of people don't have long to wait between having show and a baby! But that could just be me getting ahead of myself - must calm down a bit!! xxx

Blob2be, I am 34+4, I have been getting a mixture of contractions, BH in the day time, and proper contractions at night time.

Hi.
I have been having the same thing all week, and bh every night too.
I had my first bit of green snot last weekend.
I am in no rush though, am only 36 weeks.
In fact have just packed my bag today, and only because my sister keeps ringing me every night nagging me to do it. Now I have something to report to her.
At over 40 weeks, you must be very impatient.
Good luck!
Hope things move for you soon.
Kay.

kdinas · 18/10/2006 20:58

how you doing blob?

blob2be · 18/10/2006 22:18

Kay, I am very impatient, but also starting to freak out now that it might actually be happening! Aaaaargh is very frightening but so exciting. Thought the last 9 months had really dragged but now it seems like only a couple of weeks ago that I found out i was pregnant!
I've only just got my bag packed myself and as you know I'm over my due date! Good luck to you too. Fingers crossed for a quick and relatively pain-free birth!

Hello everyone, just to let you know that today I have had a lot more show - there was no blood in it whatsoever, was completely clear. Does this mean anything in particular or are all shows just different? I then had a bath and now I'm kicking myself because maybe I leaked some fluid? I will never know now! I guess that if it was a big gush I would have noticed, and if it was a trickle then I should still get some more now that I'm out of the bath. I know that I shouldn't get excited but it's just too difficult not to be! I've got the midwife in an hour or so so hopefully she will have some qwise words for me!

OP posts:
lulumama · 19/10/2006 12:51

my show was clear and went on a lot....i had also thought my waters had gone..the fore waters had....

let us know what the midwife says!

blob2be · 19/10/2006 12:57

Hmmm, reading through past posts it seems like some people don't consider it to be a show if there's no blood - but didn't you say that yours was clear Lulumama? And didn't you say yours went on for days?

OP posts:
lulumama · 19/10/2006 13:00

it can be called a bloody show - which is confusing as it can be clear..or a little green and snotty looking.....mine was initially a small mucus snot like lump , then became clearer, paler and not bloody..the labour ward confirmed it was a show and it was....TMI

it's like not everyones labour is the same, not everyones show is the same!

i had a few days to wait until she was born after my show...but it is a sign of the cervix starting to thin and dilate in readiness...
