How long from waters going to birth ?

I'm 36+4 with dc2. Dc1 was 10 days late and my waters didn't go til I was in labour.

My waters broke in the early hours of this morning, initially no pains, rang labour ward they said to come in as I was under 37 weeks. Had ctg monitoring which showed contractions 2 in every 20 mins, I could feel them by this stage but not incredibly painful. I've been admitted to mat ward as I'm under 37 weeks. Just waiting now. Still having 'contractions' but they aren't anything too bad to handle.

Not sure why I'm asking as obv every story is different but would be nice to hear others stories of how long this might take.

Plus I am BORED!

36 hours but I ended up with EMCS as I wasn't progressing. Only got to 3cm in that time despite regular, painful contractions!

I had 24 hours between waters going and birth, they popped at midnight but nothing happened at all until about 5pm the following day, then mild contractions

40hours to get to 9cm and then EMCS. But that was my first birth and I'm sure yours will be much shorter as it's your second - good luck, will be watching for your news. Hope all goes well x

This is a 'how long is a piece of string' question as every woman and every baby is different. However, if your waters have fully gone then I think you need to give birth within 48 hours as otherwise there's a risk of infection.

12 hours here. Waters broke at 1am, contractions started at about 3 and baby born at midday. Good luck!

They are keeping me in for a few hours then we will see. I know they'll wang to induce at 24 hours if nothing is happening. I just want it all to come in its own time. Would much rather be at home in my own bed right now.

Still having contractions but they still aren't much to write home about. I'm torn between wanting to run up and down the stairs to get things going and lying down to get some rest while I can.

In my case, about four minutes. They broke so late is forgotten they were supposed to break at all!

About a second?! Both kids were born with the waters, like riding a log flume!

30 hours here. Waters went at 3pm. Contractions started about 11pm, established labour by about 5am and then DS1 was born at 9pm on the day after they went. I went to the hospital for monitoring just after the waters popped but got sent home until the next morning. I was 39 + 6 when they went and DS was born on his due date.

51 minutes! Had been having contractions all day, not too painful. Got to hospital, doctor checked me over said not going to happen to day. hour later waters broke, had urge to push with next contraction. Dd2 born 51 mins later!

8 hours from waters breaking to dd arriving. Very straight forward birth until my daughter turned oddly on her way out causing a 2nd degree tear.

My hind waters went at 5am full of meconium, they broke my front waters at 10am and he was born at 7pm. No need for induction as I was 3cm dilated and contracting well at first examination.

DC1 about 40 hours
DC2 about 2 hours

My waters went first with both of mine, and both slightly early. Do you know what position your baby is in? My waters went early because of the baby's position and so second time round when the baby was in the same position as dc1, I knew my waters would spontaneously rupture early.

Anyway, first time round was about 31 hours which included 8hrs of being fully dilated. Had an emcs.

Second time round was 38 hours and another emcs.

Definitely rest. Let your body do its own thing. I did the whole marching, walking thing first time round and was so bloody tired by the time dd was hoiked out the sun roof. Second time round, I rested as much as possible.

49 hours for me! And that was including an induction after 38 hours

DS - 2hrs 55mins, DD - 1hr 35mins.

About 34 hours and two and a half weeks respectively. Not helpful to you at all! Second one was very premature though. Good luck!

Dd1 - had ARM after 24 hours in labour, she was born 13 hours later.

Ds - first sign was waters breaking (10 days early) - 10 hours until delivery.

Dd2 - they went on the second last push (with an audible "pop") right in the face of the trainee obstetrician. Even at that point, I laughed!

2hrs10mins. My waters breaking was the first thing that happened, my contractions started 45mins after that and sheila's born fairly quickly! My other 2 had to have my waters broken
