home births seeem to be getting more common but I am still afraid I will have difficulty getting supoort in my decision to have one, had two home births already but with independent midwife which isn't an option for me. I am on housing waiting lists for places all over rthe country so not sure where I will end up or even if I will get a move before the abby is born but wondering how common NHS home births are in different areas.

Sheffield, South Yorkshire. I had midwives queuing up to be on call when I needed them!!! Very supportive. Could almost persuade me to get pregnant again!! NOOOOOOOOO screams dh!!

tortoiseshell · 16/10/2006 16:19

Had 2 homebirths, north Bristol, very pro-home birth here, bit of a midwife shortage atm, but no problems for me.

sweetkitty · 16/10/2006 16:34

Lanarkshire near Glasgow, both MWs who attended me were in their last 50s and had never "done" a homebirth! Very uncommon up here but becoming a bit more common I believe. At times I felt like I was giving birth to the first alien child, at first MWs were a bit sceptical but as they got to know me they became more supportive and were "fighting" to see who would get to deliver me.

Was only "allowed" to have a homebirth between 39 and 42 weeks as they don't have cover for 37-42 weeks.

homebirths in Lincs were suspended last year due to midwife shortages
Now they are back and very keen - all involved have embraced my choice, but as it is not until March I'll have to get back to you on whether it gets seen through or not by them.

I booked one but had to cancel for silly reasons (electric cuts in village ) but there was no problem from MW, it was her idea in fact. Somerset / North Somerset area so Bridgwater midwives, Weston General ? Musgrove Park options for hospital

I had 2 home births in Manchester. The first time I had to change GP to get a supportive one but last year's was no problem, midwife led team was very supportive.

cheritongirl · 11/06/2007 11:37

I am in Leicester and had a HB with my first LO last year. Had a really supportive community mw but think if i had had a different one then they might have been much more difficult about it. All the best to you.

bagsundereyes · 11/06/2007 12:15

South London - most of the midwifery teams attached King's College Hospital are really pro-home birth.

seamonster · 11/06/2007 12:17

Herefordshire

mamabear2b · 11/06/2007 12:22

Cumbria, very supportive though you need to be firm about it. I was told that if there wasn't anyone available i might need to gointo hospital which i thought was a bit of a scare tactic especially as homebirth costs the NHS more that hospital bith.

Indith · 11/06/2007 12:26

Durham, very supportive. There is a good team of community midwives.

maxbear · 11/06/2007 20:00

Have had one in Portsmouth. Midwives encouraging and some of them actively encourage it.

potoroo · 11/06/2007 20:07

I didn't have one, but my midwife in West Berks offered me one and was very supportive/actively encouraged home births

musicianswidowAKAmumofmonsters · 11/06/2007 20:08

I was planning one for DC3 but m/c. I was very supported by my NHS community MW....in fact it was their suggestion as my others had ben fast deliveries. AM in South Manchester...not sure which PCT that makes me

funnypeculiar · 11/06/2007 20:09

planned homebirth (but didn't happen) - we're in Surrey. Homebirth suggested by my midwife, and enthusastically supported by hospital staff

WideWebWitch · 11/06/2007 20:12
