Will be a week overdue tomorrow and seeing my consultant with regards as to how I want to proceed from here. This lo will be my 2nd and an attempted VBAC. My hospital will induce but I really don't know what I want. Please mumsnet, make my decision for me!

Oh dear - sounds just like my last pregnancy! My cervix stayed posterior and closed shut - only got to 2cm and like you ended up with c-section for foetal distress 26 hours later.
Dont blame yourself. I can imagine how fed up you are im not term yet and am thoroughly cheesed off! The decision ultimately has to be yours. If i remember rightly if you refused induction don't they have to scan you weekly to check on placental function? (im sure i've read something somewhere)This may at least put your mind at ease. Good luck

Calvemjoe - As a doula I have seen several mums being told they were "far" from giving birth only to go into labour a couple of days later.... You can very well get going quickly. You didn't say why you had a section last time, did you labour at all?
If he is worried about kicks... call and ask for a scan! Cheeky doctor: scare you and not offer a more serious appraisal!

lemonaid · 12/09/2006 20:21

A doula I met when pg with DS (she was doulaing for someone else in the antenatal class) had a mother once who went into labour 30 minutes after being told she was far from going into labour...

Toady · 12/09/2006 20:49

Are you worried about baby's movements? Please trust your instincts.

calvemjoe · 12/09/2006 22:48

Toady she hasn't stayed still all evening so I'm not worried.

Pupuce, I laboured for 30 hours and got to 5cms but ds was well and truly wrapped up in his cord and was very distressed.

Another vote for asking for a scan: its daft of a doctor to scare you and not provide a proper assessment.

Elibean · 12/09/2006 22:51

Probalby doesn't apply to you, but one other thought - if you are over 40, its less safe to go over: another reason to ask for scans. Just wanted to mention that in case it applied to anyone else reading thread!
Glad your baby is being reassuringly acrobatic tonight...and sending you go-into-labour thoughts...

"Pupuce, I laboured for 30 hours and got to 5cms but ds was well and truly wrapped up in his cord and was very distressed."
Then you are a prime candidate for a VBAC... Good luck to you
I will look forward to the birth annoucement!!!!!

Thanks everyone for all of the advice, still here and 9 days over. My tummy is getting very tender due to the huge baby wriggling around all day and bouncing off things. Going to see midwife today to get lo monitored. Will keep you posted.

Everything crossed for you, will look forward to hearing your good news.

nebthenoob · 14/09/2006 15:07

I was induced twice and the section time ended up as emergency c/s - with no3 determined not to end up the same way again. At 39 wks with dd3, gp said 'if you're going to end with a c/s anyway, it's far better to plan an elective so that you're not stretching the resources of the hospital with an emergency....' Ended up as VBAC after four hour labour, home the next day - give it a try if you possibly can - best feeling in the world...

Toady · 14/09/2006 20:41

Any news Calvemjoe?

calvemjoe · 15/09/2006 20:39

I'm still here, 10 days overdue now. I'm feeling very tired and tender now with lo wriggling around and causing me pain. Think I may go in Sunday to be monitored if nothing else. I'm feeling a little fed up now.

mears · 15/09/2006 20:41

calvemjoe - try an dkeep your nerve - you may well go ito labour yet. With an active baby you don't need monitoring believe me!

pupuce · 15/09/2006 20:57

It will happen Calvenjoe.... hang in there
Try sex????

calvemjoe · 15/09/2006 21:06

Pupuce, dh's eyes have lit up at that comment! I have SPD so not sure if I can, but I'm getting desperate enought to give it a try

Nipple tweaking!!!! That's OK with SPD. I had very severe SPD with DD and I could manage sex... of course there is always the occasional BJ
Your DH is paying me to say this !!!! LOL

calvemjoe · 15/09/2006 21:16

Mears - you get oral prostin at the Portland !!!
Bound to work this way too

mears · 15/09/2006 21:20

I knew there was a good reason we stopped oral prostin a couple of years ago
