It's been nearky a week of on off contractions. They are driving me potty. This afternoon they were 5 mins apart, and I was all set to toddle off to delivery suite, but then they promptly stopped. It's been like this since Thursday last week, and I have had as much as I can take.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to help things move along a bit. I have overdosed on RL tea this afternoon, but to no avail. Can't do sex, as have SPD, plus DP is at work. Anything. Please

I am 38 weeks, and I'm booked in for a CS next Weds, I really cannot take another week of this. I feel shit.

Poor you sorry to hear that baby is not playing the game. Rose Leaf Tea was what I used so I have no other suggestions.

Distel · 30/08/2006 16:13

Really hot curry for tea - think you know where from .

NomDePlume · 30/08/2006 16:13

Castor Oil ?

Hot curry ?

Pineapple ?

Perineal massage ?

Building the cot for the baby singlehandedly having carried it up the stairs alone ? (that's what started me)

Sorry you feel so poo.

LadyTophamHatt · 30/08/2006 16:16

Grapes.
Loads and loads and loads of them.

Enough to make you need the loo lots.

This worked with ds2+3 fro me and IIRC colditz too.

SenoraPostrophe · 30/08/2006 16:18

well don't ask me!

cupcakes · 30/08/2006 16:18

walking is supposed to help (because you probably feel like a strapping hike right now).

intergalacticwalrus · 30/08/2006 16:19

Mmm, a nice hot curry from the Desh... (I think that's where you mean D)

I've been sick loads though, so don;t think I can stomach it

but also I know how you feel

SpaceCadet · 30/08/2006 16:22

nipple twiddling??

intergalacticwalrus · 30/08/2006 16:24

tried nipple twiddling, but it bloody hurt!! Maybe I should try again, and toughen the buggers up.

my friend who was booked in induction on the monday, got her self started by coming down my alloment on the saturday afternoon and doing some (very) modest digging! by 7pm she was in labour - 2 hours later, baby was born.
My brocolli row needs digging up if you're interested
Seriously, really sorry for you, this last stage is pants innit?

jojo76 · 30/08/2006 16:26

clean the oven? thats what started me off last time...psychotic nesting instinct! good luck!

SpaceCadet · 30/08/2006 16:27

you have to do it gently!

SpaceCadet · 30/08/2006 16:28

or plan a shopping trip.

PinkTulips · 30/08/2006 16:29

eeemmmm..... i'm beginning to sound obsessed with the stuff but.... cumin tea

a spoon of cumin seeds/powder in boiling water with a spoon of honey. you can have up to one an hour and it worked for me.... had one mug before bed and woke up with contractions and had ds that night.... 2 weeks early by my notes... slightly overdue by my reckoning (thats a whole other story)

PinkTulips · 30/08/2006 16:32

for the nipple twiddling... you're just supposed to roll them gently between your finger and thumb..... 2 mins on then 2 mins off

intergalacticwalrus · 30/08/2006 16:34

Maybe I was pumelling them a bit.

Might try the cumin tea.

According to SleepyJess ( - seriously... she told me this works - I haven't tried it!!! ) it's not the sex you need but the orgasm, so you could try a spot of, ahem, DIY (SPD permitting).

Hot Thai curry and pineapple worked for me, though!

Good luck.

JessaJam · 30/08/2006 16:41

iirc an orgasm helps as it can 'encourage' the contractions, but isn't there also something about a chemical in sperm too that stimulates the cervix...or have I gone mad?

intergalacticwalrus · 30/08/2006 16:43

Yes, aparently, it's prostoglandin in sperm that can induce labour. It's meant to be better taken orally.

Can't think of anything I would rather do......

Erm, yes actually, I would rather stick my head down the toilet.

Flamesparrow · 30/08/2006 16:44

Milk of magnesia & pineapple.

DIY (the non hammer an nails kind ) can help, but sperm is better, but if nothing else it often relaxes you enough to sleep away a few hours of pregnancy!

sallyrosie · 30/08/2006 16:47

Sorry to hear you feel so utterly shit!
Chemicals in sperm help to ripen the cervix but apparently they work better when taken, ahem, orally . Perhaps your DP is in for a treat later?
Plan for the evening:
Long walk to the takeaway
Hot curry washed down with cumin tea
Sex and nipple tweaking
? labour ?

good luck!!

lucy5 · 30/08/2006 16:54

I went to the hairdressers, could have been a coincidence! Won't harm even if it doesn't help.

charlie2307 · 03/09/2006 22:19

inter hate to say it but i am living proof that NOTHING works to help bring on labour i was so desperate i tried everything long walks, sex, pineapple, curry, castor oil(twice),bumpy car rides, you name it i tried it. In the end i was induced term+12 dd wasn't budging know matter what i tried sorry x

lucy5 · 03/09/2006 22:20

In Spain, they recommend walking up anddown stairs. I have never tried it though.
