anti blood clot stockings -
supposed to wear for 6 weeks after the op,
honestly - how long could you be bothered? I'm up to 4 weeks now and getting heartily sick of them

1st c section I was advised two weeks in stockings and had 5 days of anti clot injections (can't remember what they were called) BMI was 28.
2nd c section I was allowed the stockings off as soon as I was mobile and had 7 days of injections. BMI was 31.

If I was you I would remove them, especially if you are mobile and otherwise healthy.

leelteloo · 23/04/2014 17:53

Day 4 when I left hospital all three times. I have never been told to wear them at home. 6 weeks is bonkers imo.

n0seyb0nk · 23/04/2014 17:55

I was told 6 weeks.

I ditched them after a week.

TheRealYellowWiggle · 23/04/2014 17:58

Have had 2, don't remember stockings at al - maybe in theatre? High bmi.

n0seyb0nk · 23/04/2014 17:58

Oh and you're high risk if you're over 35 regardless of weight or lifestyle factors.

hellymelly · 23/04/2014 17:58

I had the stockings for a couple of days tops. I did have the anticoagulant meds for the time I was in hospital, but not beyond that. Maybe things have changed? My dds are 6 and 9.

Raxacoricofallapatorius · 23/04/2014 17:59

The injections are being rolled out nationwide, just taking a while. I had 10 days of tinzaparin 2.5yrs ago. Standard for all cs patients. Stockings was 3 days and after that was doing a school run and walking a couple of miles a day so not necessary.

AuditAngel · 23/04/2014 18:03

I only had one anti clot injection the day after c section each time and dropped the teds as soon as I was out of hospital.

satintaupe · 23/04/2014 18:03

I was told to wear them for a week (so I did).

I had the clexane injections for around a week.

BikeRunSki · 23/04/2014 18:06

I was told 6 weeks, took them off the moment we left the hospital.

BikeRunSki · 23/04/2014 18:06

And clexhane for a week.

DebbieOfMaddox · 23/04/2014 18:08

I had a c-section 9 years ago and didn't have them at all back then (although come to think of it I may have had them for twelve hours or so while I was actually immobile -- certainly not when I was up and on my feet).

Meglet · 23/04/2014 18:10

4 days for both sections (7 and 5yrs ago) and my hysterectomy (almost 5yrs ago). Never had the anti-clotting injections. I had low blood pressure even when pregnant though.

Tricycletops · 23/04/2014 18:11

I got to take my stockings off when I was discharged, so day 5. I think I had 5 days' worth of clexane home with me too. (You'd think I'd remember, it's only six weeks ago...) Stockings for 6 weeks seems a bit bonkers!

Mummymidwife87 · 23/04/2014 18:14

Hospitals differ in advice on this, just as they differ in amount of time clexane/fragmin should be administered for.

General advice is TED stockings for the length of time you are taking fragmin.. So if you are at a higher risk this may be 6weeks, generally post CS with no other risk factors is 7 days.

Risk factors include, Bmi over 30, 3rd baby or more, smoker, medical disorder, high BP, on fragmin during whole pregnancy, etc etc.

Rationale, thrombosis is the biggest cause of maternal mortality in the UK

ChaffinchOfDoom · 23/04/2014 18:56

is my 3rd dc, 2nd cs, low bp through pg no family stuff

I wasn't given any in the hospital to wear and nor did I have to wear them after discharge either.

I was expecting to have anti clotting injections post discharge too but they don't do that as standard anymore either. I was told the injections are only given after discharge if the woman had an Emergency CS as opposed to an elective one.

TurquoiseDress · 24/04/2014 21:52

I was in for 2 nights post CS and then cut them off just before I escaped the post natal ward!
Some staff said wear them for a week, others said take them off once I was up and about.

Couldn't wait to get them off!
Given Clexane injections for 1 week too.

HappyAsEyeAm · 24/04/2014 21:56

I had my first EMCS 6 years ago. Was told to keep the stockings on for 2 weeks. No clexane at home.

I had my second EMCS 2 years ago. Got told to keep the stockings on for 6 weeks (I think I managed about 3) and got 10 days worth of clexane injections to self administer into my tummy at home daily.

passwordchange · 28/04/2014 20:07

I was told 6 weeks. I wore them for 4, then entered the really hot phase in summer last year so I stopped wearing them. They really weren't attractive with shorts and Birkenstocks.

CristaBell · 29/04/2014 23:02

I had mine on for 2 days, I wasn't told to continue waring them at home.

unintentionalthreadkiller · 30/04/2014 08:49

2 days, they told me to wear them for a week but I was walking around no problems, walking dog etc - it was blazing hot summer and they just didn't work with shorts and flip flops! I still wore them in bed for around a week I think. I also had clexane for two weeks.

Booboostoo · 30/04/2014 11:27

I didn't have any at all and was 38 years old at the time. I was up the day after the operation and walking around the day after.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 30/04/2014 22:26

I think I took them off the morning I was discharged. I gave birth on Friday morning and left hospital Sunday evening. But I was also up and about as soon as the epidural wore off.

Cuppachaplz · 05/05/2014 16:56

I had EMCS, followed by 3 repeat surgeries for a re-stitch, to remove an abscess and to break down the scarring that had left my uterus rotated and attached to my bladder, and I was never given any, nor advised to wear any. I was up quickly after initial surgery, but quite I'll and recumbent during the next few weeks.
Aside from the intractable infection, had no problems.
