No absolutely fine and home the next day.
Pretty much slept for the next 3 weeks other than feeding.
All ok?

pod3030 · 05/01/2014 22:16

dd fine, no help needed, she was naturally a little small (i'm petite) so they did a sugar heel prick thing. Apart from that, fed well, colour v good.

neolara · 05/01/2014 22:16

Dc1 was born at 37+3 and dc2 was born at 36+6. They both needed oxygen at birth to get them breathing. Dc2 apparently didn't breathe for 2 mins. Felt slightly hairy, but had a debrief afterwards and apparently midwives weren't particularly concerned.

Both had lots of tummy problems as I think their guts were not sufficiently developed to cope with milk. I also felt that nothing i did made any difference to them until they were about 12/weeks. For example, i couldn't wake them up when i wanted them to be awake and i couldn't get them to sleep when i wanted. At 10 weeks they were behaving like other people's 5 week old baby. (But then they were the same age as lots of 5 week old babies.). Their sister, who was only a few days early had none of these issues.

2kidsintow · 05/01/2014 22:16

Nope. DD1 was born at 36 + 3 and DD2 was born at 36 +6 and they were both fine.

I went home 6 days after having DD1 (only because she got severe jaundice and had to have light therapy. Nothing to do with being 37 weeks, more to do with not getting any milk as I had lost a lot of blood during delivery and it affected my milk supply.)

DD2 went home the day after delivery.

RhondaJean · 05/01/2014 22:17

Nope, dd1 was,she was quite small but that was probably very little to do with the 37 weeks, a little jaundiced and a little cold, but 37 weeks actually counts as full term (anything from 37-42 weeks) so they don't usually anticipate any sort of intervention with a healthy 37 week baby.

boysrock · 05/01/2014 22:17

Ds fine. Apgar 10. Slept well after a month. Terrible to feed however and more prone to snuffles and wheezing. but nothing major.

hillyhilly · 05/01/2014 22:19

Dd born at 36+5. Born grunty (lungs didn't clear properly) so spent 36 hours in scbu, was extremely sleepy for 3 weeks so was watched closely as possible failure to thrive due to not regaining birth weight.
At three weeks it was like she woke up, started feeding with a vengeance and gaining weight rapidly.

RhondaJean · 05/01/2014 22:19

Oh, dd1 has had absolutely no issue with feeding or milk, and was a very alert baby from the start and met all the milestones as "normal"(using that word with caution but cant think of another word). She was 14 last week!

superram · 05/01/2014 22:19

Oxygen through mask immediately but more with trains of delivery-not age. She is fine, at school and no problems. Kept us in 24 hours but for me not her.

strawberrypenguin · 05/01/2014 22:20

37 weeks is counted as full term. DS was induced at 37 weeks as I had gestational diabetes. He was absolutely fine

superram · 05/01/2014 22:20

Stress not 'trains'. She also breast fed with no problems.

Gumps · 05/01/2014 22:24

Funny to read about a few having tummy problems. Ds2 had silent reflux and I did always wonder if it was linked to him being a bit early.
Agree with the waking of at '40 weeks'. He lulled us in and was suddenly like I'm here!

JumpJockey · 05/01/2014 22:25

DD2 born 1 month to the day ahead of her due date, no problems immediately after birth but we did stay in for a couple of nights as her sugar levels were quite low on heel prick test. went home, got sent back in for light treatment for jaundice but apart from that absolutely fine and thriving, turns 3 in a week. Grin

Showy · 05/01/2014 22:31

DS was born bang on 37 weeks and was treated no differently to any other full term baby. I think some babies born at 37 weeks are just fine and ready to be born but in ds's case, he was born then because I have a dodgy pelvis and couldn't carry him any longer. He was slightly 'early' in real terms I suppose. Still absolutely covered in vernix and a bit small, hairy and reluctant to engage with the world at large. He was physically just fine, apgar of 9 and no problems at all, normal discharge from hospital but he did spend the first 3 or 4 weeks curled up in a tiny little ball, refused to even open his eyes and breastfed and slept, slept and breastfed. At 3-4 weeks old, he unfurled, opened his eyes properly and decided he would join us after all.

Harry2007 · 05/01/2014 22:33

DS1 born at 36 weeks...8lb 6oz

DS2 born at 36+5...7lb 3oz

Both absolutely fine, c-sections were great, home within 48 hours both times Smile

CrispyFB · 05/01/2014 22:33

DC1 36+6, came home with me as soon as they would let me go (no medical reason, it was just the middle of the night!) Had no problems at all.

DC2 35+5, came home with me from the hospital when I was discharged after my c-section. Some low blood sugar issues but nothing major, and borderline jaundice that did not need treatment in the end. Fed perfectly well though! Too well in fact (we won't talk about when she finally stopped breastfeeding!)

DC3 38+2, honestly no different to the other two just without the minor issues DC2 had. I would not have been able to tell in terms of behaviour/feeding ability etc he was born at a much later gestation than his older sisters.

All fed totally fine. I should add that DC1 and DC2 were very big for their gestation (200% sure on exact dates as I was charting) which probably helped a bit. I'd had steroids with DC2 10 days before but the benefits are only supposed to last a week I think.

GreenSunrise · 05/01/2014 22:50

DS was born at 37 weeks exactly. It was EMCS due to severe pre-eclampsia. He needed some oxygen and help with breathing initially in theatre but within 10 mins was fine. He was very small for his gestation (4lb 6, IUGR probably due to my pre-eclampsia) and because of this couldn't regulate his temperature and so was in an incubator for 3 days (but always next to my bed, he didn't have to go to scbu) and then a heated cot for a few more days before going into a normal cot. He was very weak and I had to wake him for all of his feeds otherwise he just slept and slept. He struggled to breast feed in the first few weeks because he didn't have the energy to suck for long.

All of these difficulties at the start were due to his size rather than the fact that he was born at 37 weeks, which is considered to be full term.

He is now 2.7 years and is a very normal, active toddler Smile

Have you told you need to have your baby at 37 weeks OP? I hope everything is ok.

Felix90 · 05/01/2014 22:55

My dd is 2 weeks old and was born at 37 weeks. Weighed 8lb 7oz and was perfectly healthy!

ShadowFall · 05/01/2014 23:06

DS1 born at 34+1, DS2 born at 37+2.

Both breathing immediately at birth, both apgar 9 (Ds1 needed help to keep his breathing going by about 2hrs old, but he was 34wks)

Both needed treatment for jaundice, but both quite bruised by delivery.

Agree with pps re them being quite sleepy at first. And no tummy troubles here.

Whatevertheweather · 05/01/2014 23:41

DD3 was born by elcs at exactly 37 weeks she had no breathing problems at all, though as it was elective I did have steroid injections. Went home 24hrs later, though she was readmitted due to losing 15% of her birth weight as my milk took a while to come in.

Completely agree about her being a sleepy little thing for about the first month and she also suffered with tummy troubles though that seems to have righted itself now she is 17 months

Shellywelly1973 · 05/01/2014 23:50

Two of my dc were born at 37+2. 7 lb & 6'14lb. Totally fine. No breathing problems.

Also had baby's at 38 & 40 weeks...no difference!

ReallyTired · 05/01/2014 23:57

I think that dates of babies is a bit of guessing game. Some women do not remember the first day of their last period accurately. Techinically 37 weeks is not prem.

Ds was born at 37 weeks and he was 5lb 1oz and covered in lots of fine white hair. He was jittery, had jaudice and did struggle to feed. A friend had a baby who was born at 36 weeks and absolutely fine. Neither child has any problems at the age of 12.

ConcreteElephant · 06/01/2014 08:47

DD was born at 36+6 after PROM at 36+1 led to induction as labour didn't follow. She was 6lb4oz so little enough for tiny baby clothes but not scarily tiny. We went home next day - we could have gone home same day for all the 'monitoring' they did which was the reason they kept us overnight. She did have silent reflux, which eased significantly as she gained weight so I think it was related to underdevelopment. She was also a bit jaundiced (didn't need hospital treatment but we were putting her in the window for January sun!) and 'sleepy' - we had to wake-to-feed to get her up and running.

She's almost 4 now, later (but not worryingly so) to do physical things like crawl and walk, but we could have clear conversations with her at 19 months.

DS was born at 37+5 - I don't cook them for long it seems.

Frizz1986 · 06/01/2014 08:55

Dd was born at 37+4. She needed no help once delivered but has suffered from jaundice which meant returning to hospital for 24hrs for light therapy.

Tiredemma · 06/01/2014 08:58

DS2 was born at 37+1.

No problems at all.
