Just curious how many women poohed in labor?

I did on 2 out of 3 births not that I gave a shit at the time. But I am curious how common it is?

I did, but only knew about it because DH told me.

msmiggins · 23/12/2013 15:39

I didn't either time. Wouldn't have cared if I did though.

Lj8893 · 23/12/2013 15:45

I had a huge poo in a toilet while I was in labour so I'm pretty sure I didn't when I was pushing.

Mind you, It all happened so fast that I really have no idea, I can't remember any of it!

Weegiemum · 23/12/2013 15:45

No-one told me (and dh was with my head, not at the "business end) that I did but I'm pretty sure it happened in all 3 labours.

Worst bit was when the consultant (small hospital) stitched me up then decided to show dh (GP trainee who had worked with this consultant) how well it was done! ??

notundermyfoof · 23/12/2013 18:26

"not that I gave a shit at the time" sorry op but that made me spit my tea at the screen! Grin

I did with both births, I had been worrying about it beforehand but I got to the point where I realised there was no way I could get the baby out whilst holding the turd in and just made my peace with it Blush

RhinestoneCowgirl · 23/12/2013 18:29

I was pushing with DS and was insistent that it was a poo. MW kept saying 'that's the baby's head dear'. Cue more pushing and panting...

And then a tiny nugget dropped to the floor and I gasped accusingly 'I told you it was poo!". DS was finally born about 30 mins later.

GoMommaGo · 23/12/2013 20:22

Oh gosh, the poo! I can't remember with dc1, think I prob did though, I knew when I had with dc2, in pool, despite the gas & air effect and intensity of contractions, it was just before baby born, I swear I felt it! Dh will neither confirm or deny!! Due dc3 next week and despite full knowledge of birth experiences and understanding that it's very common and they have seen it all before.......it still makes me feel weird! I really do know at the time I won't give a monkeys, it's just the thought of it isn't it! At least it usually means baby nearly out, mine shot out right behind the poop, poor things! At least got a rinse in the pool before scooped out of harms way, Smile

bumpybumps · 23/12/2013 20:38

I had an epidural so I wouldn't know if I did. I was pushing for 2 hours so more than likely. Before I went into labour it was something I worried about as I thought it would be the most embarassing thing, but when you've been in labour for 14 hours and beared all to a room full of people it was the last thing on my mind!

puntasticusername · 25/12/2013 00:36

Hospital midwife said 8 or 9 out of 10 women do...

scrumpkin · 25/12/2013 00:41

My arsehole turned inside out repeatedly with each contraction. I had a bum like a concertina. Only during one of my 3 births did this happen though Confused

IndigoTea · 25/12/2013 01:07

I pooed alot sadly Hmm

cupcake78 · 25/12/2013 01:17

First time yes. I can't remember the second time and it was only a few months ago Grin

AnandaTimeIn · 25/12/2013 01:21

Oh yes I did, and I felt embarrased.... with all those students looking on!!

Well, considering I was squatting on a birthing stool maybe not a wonder Grin

Good to know I wasn't a freak then!

DirtyThree · 27/12/2013 19:53

Nope no pooing here from me - though dd did. My hypno birthing lady told me most of her clients had home water births with very little blood/gunk/stuff and she was right. Only grossness in my pool was dd's meconium!

TalkUsernameYoudLike · 27/12/2013 19:59

Yep, I did a little bit. Before the birth, everyone was saying to me 'Oh, you won't know you're doing a poo, you can't feel it'.

I felt everything.

Cavort · 28/12/2013 13:56

No I didn't according to DH, but I did push some piles out Blush Grin

Hopelass · 29/12/2013 18:46

I thought I did but dh confirmed I didn't! Dunno if he's lying though!

BeeMyBaby · 29/12/2013 19:15

Not sure with dd1 as mw said I didn't , but I had a waterbirth with dd2 and had been a bit backed up... Trainee mw gave up her poo fishing in the end... I did notice, I do remember and I am still mortified.

MonkeysTypewriter · 29/12/2013 19:19

Yes
DH still thinks it is hysterically funny Hmm

Haveacwtch · 30/12/2013 23:19

Both times with mine. I knew I did in both labours. The first time I was shouting at the midwife to please clean me up and the second time I was standing ..... Confused

When I had mine(many years ago!) it was customary to be given an enema at the onset of labour. Does anyone know why that isn't done anymore?

EugenesAxe · 31/12/2013 13:10

I did both times.

Zara1984 · 31/12/2013 14:10

Eddie I think it's because it could agitate/make contractions more painful and unsettled as it's all in that area! DMIL was horrified I didn't get an enema. I pooed 3 x (at least) during pushing stage. I asked DH if perhaps I hadn't (had epidural and was exhausted, so wasn't sure), and he said "did the epidural make you lose your sense of smell, too??" BlushGrin

Knit2togtbl · 31/12/2013 14:18

I did one whilst labouring on my hands and knees in one of those awful hospital gowns . Dh was looking at the business end at the time . Said the sight of it scarred him for life.
