Baby yet freckles?

Jorior · 29/10/2013 08:05

I'm 39+3 with DC3. This was lovely reading because my previous two labours were horrible. I've been feeling much more optimistic about this one and this thread has done me the world of good. Thank you ladies.

Frecklesandspecs · 29/10/2013 08:13

all good so far jorior!
no baby yet mum!
that's a lovely story mike!

Very fast, and like a PP said, less time to prepare. While established labour was short it went from painful but manageable to "ARGH!" like flicking a switch.

Baby was 40% bigger than my other two so while pushing only took five minutes I felt like I had been hit by a bus for days afterwards. But no tears or grazes, which is progress!

And she was so pretty. Because she was big, and didn't engage, she had a perfect spherical fat head. She was floating around until five minutes before arrival and was cushioned nicely. It was the only birth I managed to touch the head while it emerged, which is really special.

Frecklesandspecs · 29/10/2013 08:54

aw hawk....least you are making an effort to make it sound nice!!

I am planning on going to the shops today with the kids to get this think started.
what did you do beforehand ?
I'm fed up.

Interesting thread :)

I am pregnant with my 3rd. I had my first nearly 18 years ago and had a 13 hour labour, I was 2 weeks overdue.

My 2nd was 7 years ago, again 2 weeks late and I had to be induced at 9am sun morning and ended up with an ECS at 6pm Monday evening.

I'm wondering if I should have an ELCS this time or try for a VB which I would prefer but i'm quite nervous! The ECS was quite upsetting after all that time in labour.

My first 2 were good weights as well, 8lb 10 and 9lb 2 :)

gamerchick · 29/10/2013 09:55

1st awful.. back to back.. epidural, episiotomy and ventous.

2nd normal delivery

3rd Induction.. no epidural practically enjoyed my self.. labour was only a few hours compared to the other 2.

gamerchick · 29/10/2013 09:58

I think your body 'remembers' with each birth and you're better prepared as you've done it before if that makes any sense.

headoverheels · 29/10/2013 10:01

#3 was very similar to #2 - both quick and easy (3.5 hours from the first contraction)

Frecklesandspecs · 29/10/2013 13:08

well been shopping this morning ladies to see if that Will help!
I told dh if baby comes tonight he Will have to pay me back for the shopping I did!

I felt more proud of myself after this time as it was so tough! My second birth was so textbook and he basically slipped out like you see baby animals being born! I don't think I really understood "labour" until this time. (Induced first time in hospital... V quick and ventouse).

What did I do on the day? Well I was 40+5 and had been to the MW. Was told I couldn't have a second sweep because it wasn't policy. I was livid and upset so sulked in the car while DH and DS went to the chippy. I did steal a few chips and then irregular ctx started building up over the afternoon. The clincher was, and we'd known this all along, that my mum who was providing childcare had booked a trip out for the day and was three hours away for the only time in five weeks. So Sod's law made me go into labour that day.

You need to make some kind of complicated arrangements!

Hawkmoth · 29/10/2013 15:24

I should also add, that my DD watched the birth (just, she had to run downstairs!) and that made it extra special.

giraffeseatpineapples · 29/10/2013 16:08

Same horrid 1st, good second, good 3rd. 3rd labour was probably the easiest but delivery was slightly more complicated than the second (I think my midwife was less experienced, I was slightly dissapointed as I never got the natural 3rd stage I wanted). Oh only slight bummer is that the after pains were slightly worse with 3rd. Hope you have another great experience with your 3rd Flowers

Boring reminiscing story to follow now as it is dc3's birthday today and I was in mid labour with her at this time 3 years ago! please feel free to ignore ....

so flasback to 28/10/10 I was 9 days over and ds asked when is the baby coming so I told him the baby is def coming tomorrow, dp had enough of waiting around for paternity leave so he decided he would take the following day off in anticipation.

The next day we went for a walk and I did a bit of fast walking which brought on the contractions (hoorah) we then carried on to a cafe for lunch, went food shopping and bought some treaty dvds for the children. I called my mum to let her know to set off while we did the 20 min walk home. Once home I had a shower and did my hair and make up, bit of internet christmas shopping then called the hospital to let them know I would be on my way. Midwife on the phone told me not to come yet even though dc 2 came within an hour of me getting to hospital last time; I am a fool so did as i was told and took some paracetemol and got in the bath (then promptly got out again as that was agony). We decided not to bother ringing again and got the taxi to the hospital.

I was 5cms when they admitted me, and the midwife went to run the birth pool - i din't make it to the pool) I then lay on my right side for a bit to turn the baby who was back to back then sat on the toilet and allowed my body to push a bit without actively pushing (kindda needed the toilet but also to help the baby turn - this worked with no 2) DP went to tell the midwife I was at the pushing stage she popped in and asked the student midwife to wait with me as a new midwifes shift was about to start. The midwife taking over then arrived and made me get off the toilet without finishing wiping my bum {ewww} she got me on the bed and kept telling me I had to hurry up and push the baby out properly because the baby had been sitting there too long (how this can be when less than half an hour earlier I was 5cm I don't know) it felt a bit like they were rushing me, I refused to lie down and knelt on the bed to push although I didn't want to push at that stage but anyway it was all fine and after a bit of coaxing dd arrived without any pain relief. I had wanted a natural 3rd stage and the midwife who admitted me hadn't had time to leave yet so popped her head in and asked why they were cutting the chord and new midwife explained that the baby had the chord wrapped round her kneck. Bit disspaointed not sure why I was so obssessed with natural 3rd stage.

Anyway not quite as calm as second but still very lovely, and I quite enjoyed early labour as I was looking forward to it after great second birth. Going to give DD2 a hug now Grin

giraffeseatpineapples · 29/10/2013 16:11

actually second labour wasn't really calm as I was terrified and it suddenly went fro 2 - 10 cm but when it got to the pushing bit she was amazing and made it feel calm.

Piece of piss. Popped out in an hour, straight on boob. Easy peasy!

Norem · 29/10/2013 16:58

Have 5 dc all straightforward deliveries, 3 rd was lovely woke at 5.30 am with cx every 5 mins in my bum! Took me a while to figure out it was labour :) pottered around til 8 am then called my mw ( home birth)
She arrived at 9 am, moved to the bedroom at 11.30 standing leaning onto chest of drawers worked best.
Waters went at 1250 just as I started gas and air and was laughing my head off cos I couldn't get my knickers off!
Baby out at 1 pm precisely, really enjoyed it :)
Good luck

Norem · 29/10/2013 16:59

Forgot to say he turned during labour and I felt him go as pains went from bum to hip to front over about 40 mins.

Frecklesandspecs · 29/10/2013 20:46

thanks ladies. I've really enjoyed reading all these stories. I'm sat up in bed already (8.30pm) wondering again if I Will get a good nights sleep.
you do get fed up when due date passes don't you?
it does seem most of yours were a few days late though.
I hope midwife Will give me a sweep on Friday if nothing had happened.
I can ask for one after 40 can't I?

giraffeseatpineapples · 29/10/2013 23:27

I'm sure I have read that French women get an extra week before it counts as overdue. Think the statistic is that 75% of the time pg goes past 40 weeks. My ds was on time and my two girls 10 days over (my mum had a similar pattern with me, my bro and sister)

Do you mean 40 as in full term or age 40 (not that i know the answer anyway Blush ) I had sweeps for all 3 - there are reasons not to get sweeps (mainly around infection) but I did seem to go into labour 2 days after each. I would say put off the sweep as long as pos because it wont work unless you are more or less ready.

Keep us posted!

hoppinghare · 29/10/2013 23:38

My first was horrific, second was nice, third wasn't great but nowhere near as bad as the first. Good luck. The general rule is that the first is the worst so chances are you will be fine. Let us all know how it goes.

morethanpotatoprints · 29/10/2013 23:41

half hour labour, worse pain at the hairdressers, only half dozen contractions, 3 pushes and she was out.
weighed 5.13 but I'm only tiny.
Like shelling peas, don't worry. Smile
