I can't help wondering what it might mean that this baby is overdue

Baby now four days overdue.

At my last "full" scan in London they said to me that I was highly unlikely to go past 38 weeks because of the amount of amniotic fluid.

But now I am overdue and I keep wondering what this might mean. Is it a good sign? A bad sign? Doesn't have any implications whatsoever?

Anybody any thoughts?

No implications I wouldn't think

Except that you must be one HOT MAMA

How are you coping in the heat?

juuule · 11/06/2006 19:26

Well at the very least it means that they don't know everything.

Rowlers · 11/06/2006 19:27

No idea.
But I've read a few of your posts and not had a clue what to say!

Hope all goes well for you and your worries subside. Smile

Hi emkana

I've followed some of your other threads but not posted before

From my own experience of huge amounts of amniotic fluid, hopefully it'll just mean the midwives need to get a mop and bucket!

Hope it all goes well for you. Its so frustrating going overdue

Take care

mousiemousie · 11/06/2006 19:30

Did you go over with the first two Emkana?

emkana · 11/06/2006 19:32

Yes, I was six days over with dd1 and 13 days over with dd2 (induced with dd2).

I also find it amazing that at the scan last Monday they estimated his weight to be over 9lb! Shock

I remember seeing a thread on here a while back about psychological reluctance to give birth possibly (conscious or unconscious) being connected with being overdue (or failure to progress once labour started).

I have read some of your threads about not wanting to give birth because of the possible implications - perhaps this is connected?

Carmenere · 11/06/2006 19:40

Ouch he's a whopper! Godspeed Emkana!Grin

EvesMama · 11/06/2006 19:44

have not had anything constructive to say on any of your threads..but wishing you love and luck..im sure all will be fine..youve just made it too comfy for him in thereSmile
if you are concerned, do you have a maternity day unit you could pop in on?, they are usually very accomodating

ladymuck · 11/06/2006 20:02

I detect subconscious issues woth your mother - you're just trying to wind her up!

Hope that you have a smooth birth, and that you find out thta the last few months have been worrisome without reason.

I was told with ds1 that I would be doing well if I could carry him to 28 weeks, then 32 was set as the deadline. When I finally made my 40week appt with the consultant he did manage to look embarrassed! I had the largest baby in SCBU by over 4lbs!

(Oh and I had a scan for ds2 a week before his birth which estimated him to be 8lbs 8 oz - he was born at 7lbs 3oz.)

PrincessPeaHead · 11/06/2006 20:05

I always had masses of fluid, and always went over (10, 9, 8 and 4 days).

Don't think you can read anything into it.

You must be very keen to pop in this heat! Hope it all goes very well for you Emkana. x

cadbury · 11/06/2006 20:07

Maybe it means that you have a very comfortable uterus!Wink

Thinking of you Smile

emkana · 11/06/2006 20:08

lol ladymuck

Why did your baby have to go to the SCBU?
(Sorry if you've told me on one of the threads before, have brain like a sieve Blush)

agree with Juule just goes to show docs cannot be certain. And scans are generally up to 10 to 20 per cent out. If you start a thread about 'how accurate was your scan' you'll have loads of people telling you it was over or under. FWIW my sister had gestational diabetes and they did all the 'oooh, baby's already 9lbs' at 37 weeks stuff. Which is very scary with GD. Neice was actually 8lbs at 40+4.

I really, really hope baby emkana proves them wrong about the scarier stuff, too.

hunkermunker · 11/06/2006 20:24

Are you wondering whether if they were wrong about the amniotic fluid, they might be wrong about other things, Emkana?

I hope so much that they are - thinking of you x x x

emkana · 11/06/2006 20:26

Yes, hunker, that's it.

Also always had this idea in my head that poorly babies are more likely to be born prematurely?
But I don't know where I got that thought from.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2006 20:27

I guess it means the baby isn't "ready" yet.

And you must be seriously p-ed off in this heat!

Miaou · 11/06/2006 20:28

I'm not surprised you are wondering emkana, but I'm sure there's nothing to read into it. I had huge amounts of amniotic fluid every time, and had one early, one late and one bang on the due day - so no connection there!

Did you get sorted out with your aunt coming over?

emkana · 11/06/2006 20:28

Nah, SD, the heat doesn't bother me, after all I got all that ice cream! Wink

Seriously, the heat is very tiring and doesn't make for a patient mummy. Sad

hunkermunker · 11/06/2006 20:28

I can't tell you how much I hope they're very, very wrong - you are in my thoughts often these days, sweetheart x x x x

emkana · 11/06/2006 20:30

Yes my mum had a word with my aunt, thank God.
