Because I don't think I did when DD was born and I had no pain medication at all. Am I deluding myself and have just forgotten about it?

Yes. I remember feeling shocked at how much it fucking hurt!!! Felt like I was being ripped in two. No stitches though so that was good.

Lagoonablue · 26/07/2013 13:04

Yes. It hurt. However was very proud of myself having pushed a baby into the world on my own.. No drugs, no forceps, just me and a lot of hormones.

20wkbaby · 26/07/2013 13:14

I didn't. I remember the midwife saying 'The head's out, that's the worst bit over', and I was thinking, ' That didn't hurt at all!'.

Icedink · 26/07/2013 16:36

I definitely felt it but it was an intense stinging rather than burning sensation. It shocked me how much it hurt and I remember telling the mw "it stings like a motherfucker!" Blush - I don't normally use language like that!

duchesse · 26/07/2013 16:45

Defo mega-stinging rather than fire, aka hurting like hell.

The theory is that your nerves are stretched so far that you don't really feel it as pain.

It's over very quickly. And you have to listen to the midwives about breathing if you don't want to be stitched.

Yes definitely with DD the midwife said pant and I was going pant, fuck, pant, fuck, pant, fuck until the next contraction and with DS1 can remember thinking it was lasting forever DS1 was 9lb 5 and had his hand up by his massive head
but not so much with DS2 and DS3, they just kind of shot out.

MangoJuiceAddict · 26/07/2013 22:05

I don't remember feeling it- I had a completely natural water birth. But when I was pushing I did feel like I had a basketball stuck between my legs, then I kicked my feet in the water and the feeling disappeared Confused. Maybe I've forgotten it- it was 11 years ago.

peteypiranha · 26/07/2013 22:08

No I have had 2 water births and didnt feel any pain down there just contractions.

bizboz · 26/07/2013 22:13

Yes. It hurt like hell - there's no way you'd forget about it. However, I had a 3rd degree tear (9lb 2oz baby - first vaginal delivery) so that was probably why it hurt! It was over in a few seconds though, so in that respect was much better than the contractions.

wasabipeanut · 26/07/2013 22:18

Yup. In the natural births I had ( 1st was a C section I didn't get as far as pushing) the last contractions before crowning felt like trying to shit a breeze block - the pressure in my pelvis was unbearable. I felt like my pelvis was breaking in half. So I started pushing and all that pressure transferred itself upfront to the ring of fire.

Mercifully in my case it was over quickly. With DS2 he was out in 3 pushes.

ctrlaltdel · 26/07/2013 22:47

Yes it went on for ages with DC1 as I panicked and couldn't breathe properly or push. I thought my pregnancy piles were about to burst everywhere which made me more scared. The water birth and gas and air made no difference as I was so wound up.

No with DC2 who was bigger but came out in about 4-5 pushes while I was stood up in the assessment room. I still had a second degree tear and the contractions still hurt. Maybe practising breathing techniques and knowing what to expect helped a bit the second time round. I also loved the gas and air while having my stitches with DC2 - was like getting tipsy and I had a lovely post birth high :)

Lutrine · 27/07/2013 03:21

It was more like intense pressure and a huge stretching sensation, but I had a waterbirth which probably helped. I did go swear for the first time though! DDs head came out and it felt like ages til the next contraction to push the rest of her out, during which time she twisted round! I could feel her turning but thought the midwives were doing something to me, they said "that's your baby moving around!" ....such an odd sensation! She'd been back to back and twisted round so she faced my leg apparently. I really didn't feel like I'd torn at all and was really surprised to be told I had a second degree tear, loved the gas and air when they stitched it, and asked them to leave me in the house for the first post-birth poo:)

chubbychipmonk · 27/07/2013 23:38

Not with DC1 his was the easiest birth ever.

Felt very smug that DC2 would be the same. . Was it fuck!

26 hour back to back labour & it sting like hell when he was coming out! I remember thinking that my clitoris was actually being ripped in 2!!

Worth it in the end tho. .once the stitches healed & I could actually walk again!

mummyplonk · 27/07/2013 23:54

As soon as that feeling of over
Whelming wanting to push, everything else was out the Window, It is a bit weird but it in hind sights the pushing stage was the best bit, am a sad it will never happen again.

fatandlumpy · 29/07/2013 12:23

I had a water birth and was on my knees. Gas and Air were the only meds I had. When 'it' happened I thought my bum hole and my clit were going to explode... it only lasted a couple of seconds, but it was truly overwhelming. Then there was a 'slithering' sensation and I heard the midwife shout 'Well catch him then!'. I looked inbetween my legs and saw my son looking at me with an expression of surprise on his face. The midwife had 'caught him'. I brought him to the surface and he took his first breath as soon as he hit the air. Was really special.

... but there were no spaniels. Emergency or otherwise.
