Anyone go into labour without waters breaking or show?

Just wondering as I have had no show or waters leaking yet and due to give birth so I am slightly concerned that this means I will go over my dates.

With first baby, I had show one night, waters broke next morning and then that night contractions started.

Has anyones labour just started with contractions and then show etc?

DS1 - no show, waters were broken by the m/w at 8cm.

DS2 was induced.

DD - contractions, show, then waters broke.

All were late.

AussieSim · 04/05/2006 01:23

DS2 no show no waters broke, but I knew he was on the way!

DS1 on the other hand, waters broke 5 weeks early.

hannahsaunt · 04/05/2006 03:51

Me. Light bleeding with both but not so much as could be described as a show. Waters broken to stimulate labour with ds1 as I was 4cm dilated (and thus officially in labour) without contractions. Waters broke as ds2 was born.

expatcat · 04/05/2006 08:04

My labour started with contractions - no show at all (that I remember seeing) and my waters broke about 1/2 an hour before DS actually arrived (so 5 hours after contractions started)
I was 11 days overdue, and due to be induced the following day Smile

Clayhead · 04/05/2006 08:21

Never had a show, waters broke just before delivery both times.

ItalianJob · 04/05/2006 08:52

Yep! Didn't get a show till I was about 7 cm dilated, and they had to break my waters for me! Also didn't feel engaged (first baby) until the day before.

Bugsy2 · 04/05/2006 09:18

Yes, with my first had no show & apparently my waters had broken when I was examined at hospital but I was completely unaware of it having happened!

BagelBird · 04/05/2006 09:26

Both of my labours started with contractions as first sign - first one was born on my due date and second two weeks late (by their dates, I thought she was 1 day late as I have a long cycle that they refused to factor in) As I had it with on time and late baby,I don’t think it will mean you will or won’t go overdue.

Also, I know it is frustrating going over your dates - two whole weeks of constant phone calls of well meaning relatives/friends saying "haven’t you had it yet?!!" nearly drove me insane. But, in the big scheme of things, two weeks is not a long time. Enjoy your last few days with your first child and try to focus on each day rather than the imminent arrival or you will find these last days will feel like a vacuum. Easy to say I know.. xx

Hi lovecloud,
My labour with DS had no show, no waters breaking, just contractions. I'd had a scare a few weeks earlier (tip - don't sit on a wet car seat after leaving the sun roof open in the rain and then go to hospital thinking your waters have broken, as you'll look like an idiot - trust me, I know), and was determined I wasn't going anywhere near the hospital again until I was SURE I was in labour - so made DH walk with me round the block at 3 am - didn't make it to the first corner it was so painful, so we went in. Finally had a show in the hospital, but ended up with a c-section (breech), and they had to suck the waters out with a vaccuum!

Good luck with yours!

My waters did'nt brake, did'nt have a show until i got to the hospital.

Good luck

Hello lovecloud
my contractions strated at 7pm full force painfull ones went to blakes maternity hospital about 40min later was already 7cm. The mw broke my waters when i was 8cm. Did not notice if i had a show though. I got to the stage i wanted to push even though i was only 9cm, mw realised ds was bum breech and blue lights to main hospital. While in the ambulance the mw kept saying 'stop pushing!' even though my body had taken over i could not control it. she said 'do you want to have your baby in the ambulance??' Shock When i arrived at the hospital i felt like i was dying and told them to put me to sleep as i could not go on anymore! lol obviously at the final stage. They gave me a spinal and the relife the pain went away and ds was delivered by e-c at 11:47pm that evening.

Even though it was all very unexpected and a bit shocking, i remember the mw asking if i wanted an epidural i said no i was happy with the gas and air lol thats good stuff!
Wish you all the best lovecloud x

lovecloud, with my third, waters only broke with a huge gush (all over car seat!)just outside hospital. got in there and had a very messy show, got on the bed and whoosh, she was out 20 mins later!so i can safely say it all only happened at the end of the labour.

Piffle · 04/05/2006 13:57

Yep both times
Waters never went with either of mine ds was born in his bag of waters! although m/w did rupture the bag when dd was about to crown.
I've never seen a show either - my plugs came away as I was in transition so m/w told me!

Good luck for when the time comes :)

Peachyclair · 04/05/2006 14:20

possible show with number 3, waters went within minutes of delivering each of them- had I stayed at home until waters went as often suggested wouldn't have got beyond doorstep.

Went with energy too (I had forgottent hat with DS3- drowned the MW with projectile waters Grin)

Peachyclair · 04/05/2006 14:21

I am sure I was told only 15% of labours start with waters going?

Darciesmum · 06/05/2006 15:52

with my DD i had a show when i was in labour and i pushed my waters out (looked like a balloon) they broke them and DD head shot out!
but i didn't tear or graze which was good!

Airy · 06/05/2006 16:16

I had my show about 6 hours into my labour at hospital, my waters broke just as I started pushing! :)

GDG · 06/05/2006 16:25

INduced with ds1

Ds2 - no show or waters breaking before labour. Waters only broke about 2 mins before birth (and all hell broke loose Grin)

Ds3 - lots of show day before birth, but waters only broke right at the end while pushing.

franca70 · 06/05/2006 16:41

My waters broke right before starting to push both times

franca70 · 06/05/2006 16:43

i think Peachyclair is right

SomethingAboutMary · 06/05/2006 16:44

Ds - I had a show 5 mins after niggling stomach pains, water were broken later on when in hospital.

Dd - Had no show & no waters right up until i was about to push, the show came first them the waters poped just before pushing.

Goodluck every labour is different Smile

ja9 · 06/05/2006 17:05

i had no show and waters were broken for me near the end of labour. i was 12 days early.

Hattie05 · 06/05/2006 17:27

I went two week past my due date, and never had a show, and midwife broke my waters just before dd came out.

When is your due date lovecloud?

DumbledoresGirl · 06/05/2006 17:34

Yes. I have had 4 labours. The first started (or rather didn't - I had to be induced after 24 hours) with my waters breaking, and the third came after a show, but my second and fourth labours started simply with contractions.

sniff · 10/05/2006 08:22

yes never had a show always had to have waters broken
