Anyone go into labour without waters breaking or show?

Just wondering as I have had no show or waters leaking yet and due to give birth so I am slightly concerned that this means I will go over my dates.

With first baby, I had show one night, waters broke next morning and then that night contractions started.

Has anyones labour just started with contractions and then show etc?

I did they broke mine once I was in hospital after being in labour for a while, don't remember a show either.

busybusybee · 03/05/2006 22:55

Yes my second did

In fact waters and show happened together - labour lasted 5 hours waters broke after 3, dd born two hours later

Good luck, its got to happen soon :o

My labour started off with the delightful "clear out". Everything else happened at the hospital.

foundintranslation · 03/05/2006 22:55

Mine! The sort-of 'show' I had only happened once I was well into contractions (mind you, labour did take 50+ hours...). My waters were broken in hospital.

lovecloud · 03/05/2006 22:56

Good - thanks for that.

Just crossed my mind, I am just hanging onto sanity here knowing that the end is nigh.

Dont think I could handle going over - doing all I can to make sure this little one heads for the light soon :)

I don't recollect the show with ds1, but my contractions started at 8.30am, I was 4cm dilated by around 2pm and waters didn't break until late on in the afternoon/early evening.

I was 11 days overdue though (sorry if you didn't want to know the last bit! - err, I was only 9 days overdue with ds2 if that helps at all!)

Maddison · 03/05/2006 22:59

This happened to me second time around.

My contractions started at 2:15, waters broke at 4:10 then DS2 was born at 4:26! Nice and quick Grin When I think about it I had no Braxton Hicks either.

I was 4 days overdue though.

my first labour -Didnt know i was having contractions or dilating till the final stage and waters manually broken.
Second-Had a couple of pains then a show ,went downstairs waters broke went upstairs ,very painful ,delivered dd2 on my bathroom carpet -caught by dp.

Beauregard · 03/05/2006 23:01

Meant to say i was 8 days over with 1st and 4 with 2nd.

supplyteacher · 03/05/2006 23:01

My waters have always gone in second stage. I knew that I was in first stage because of the contractions.

lovecloud · 03/05/2006 23:02

Wow - I love hearing these short labour stories :)

Did you both tear bad? Thats got to be shocking to your body?

My dh would have a heart attack if I start giving birth at home!

Only 10% of women have their waters naturally leak/break before they give birth... so it means nothing!

lovecloud · 03/05/2006 23:07

only 10%??? wow! i thought that was how most people started, was the case for most of my friends.

I only had a slight tear with 1st but hurt like hell and 1st degree tear with 2nd but didnt feel anything .To be honest my body didnt really feel like i'd had dd2 and yet i felt like a truck hit me the 1st time.
It was a shock for all concerned and dd had a really bruised /swollen face and was very unsettled and had a low sensory threshold for a while.

pupuce · 03/05/2006 23:09

It's actually far less stressful NOT to have your waters go on their own before labour as if it does NOT get your labour going it will mean induction!
Also I read your point about not wanting t go over.... The average gestational age for 1st time mums is 41 weeks....

misdee · 03/05/2006 23:12

with dd2 i woke up in labour. then had a show. my waters didnt go untill i was pushing. definatly the easiest birth of all my three dd's.

dd1 waters went, then no contractions, so was induced.

dd3 ARM was done, due to gestanional diabetes, i was booked in for induction but was already dilating. she came fast but was more painful than dd2.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2006 23:14

Yes. I never had a show w/either girl.

Both of them were waters intact until I got to 8cm w/DD1 and at birth w/DD2.

misdee · 03/05/2006 23:14

forgot to say, dd1, from waters breaking to birth was over 36hours.

dd2 from waking to her being born was around 3.5hours.

dd3 from ARM to being born was 3hours.

HunKeRMunKeR · 03/05/2006 23:15

DS1 my waters broke then contractions started, but I never had a show. Ten days late.

With DS2, again, no show and my waters went 15 minutes before he was born (and 8 hours after the first twinges of labour started). Four days late.

mcmudda · 03/05/2006 23:19

Ds - contractions, then show. waters broken in hospital - 2 weeks early

DD - contractions, no show, waters broken in hospital. - 4 days late.

Passionflower · 03/05/2006 23:25

All three, no show, waters broken by midwife DD1 & 2, DD3 waters broke just before she arrived.

The were all late though, sorry.

milward · 03/05/2006 23:26
