Has anyone eaten their placenta?

Sorry if this has been done. I'm just curious. I suspect it costs a fortune to get it whatevered into pills - and I'd be considered mental by friends and family if I did - so probably out for me. Yet I'm intrigued...

Why yes, Saggy.

Anything else would have ruined my palate.

No. but if anybody has, she's a mumsnetter.

thanks LaLa!

Not read the whole thread (don't really need to, can imagine majority of comments Grin)

DH and doula are going to prepare my placenta and make raw placenta smoothies from it for me. I know it's a bit nuts but I don't care. If it helps me heal and avoid the hormonal hell I had last time, it'll be worth it Grin

Mmmmmmmm meat smoothie... Grin

Good for you Badgerina. Personally, I think I'd go for the capsules rather than the raw smoothies but I admire your choice and hope it helps with the hormones.

Snigger I laughed heartily at your fruit basket story Smile. The post-partum tea and toast is pretty incredible though and your DH definitely overstepped the line by looking for a piece. The two slices awarded by the NHS are definitely not enough though. I wonder how many you get if you go to a private hospital.

I have Raw Placenta Encapsulations - done it with all my dc. I've also tried Placenta smootie, it's not that bad with fruit!

I'm also vegeatrain - nothing died or was killed/caged to make them so they're okay to eat. My friend makes sure to use non-gelatin capsules though.

I was asked if I wanted to keep mine. I did ask, if I did (WHICH I MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT), what the hell I was going to do with it. MW told me the hospital would provide a bucket for it and I would be given burial instructions (they have to be buried a certain depth and apparently some have been dug up on public land that weren't buried deep enough)
I know some people eat their placenta, but it seems none of those people are on MN Grin

ooohh snigger I feel special - I got three (NHS hops)
