Is it possible to push a baby out within 30mins?

I'm currently 16weeks pregnant but as I have health problems I'm only allowed to push for 30mins when the time comes.

So I was wondering if it's possible?

With DC1 I pushed for 1hour and ended up with vontuse(sp), with DD I was able to push until DD was born but I don't know the time it took.
Both of them labours was before I got this illness so thos time it's really different.

Yes, my pushing phase consisted of 3 pushes.

Congratulation OWO.

I'm much more relaxed now. I really hoped it was possible. I am dreading getting an instrumental birth so hopefully I can do it within 30mins it is reassuring to hear it is totally possible, Thank you for all of the replies :o

Rikalaily I can't have an Epidural this time as I have a Shunt in the same area and the hospital where I'm going to deliver in doesn't have the right Anesthetist who knows about the shunt (well considering to my consultant), I am seeing the Anesthetist in December to discuss the birth in more detail and what happens when. :)

Yes certainly
In fact on my antenatal group thread on here theres a post about how I'm going nowhere then really quickly after one saying hes been born

13:58:27 BRONZE UPDATE - going nowhere fast, fully dilated but the contractions have completely stopped

14:40:53 BRONZE UPDATE!!!!! Born 2.03

5madthings · 24/08/2012 20:22

ds1 took 3hrs of pushing.

ds2 took about an hour.

ds3 took 3 pushes to less than 5 mins

ds4 no pushing he came out on his own into the birth pool!

dd a few pushes again, she was back to back as well.

so yes you can push a baby out in under 30 mins but only start pushing when YOU feel the urge to bear down and go with your body, try and be upright, kneeling or all fours, gravity is your friend!

JustFabulous · 24/08/2012 20:25

Yes.

I did 20 minutes and 7 minutes.

I hear of women pushing for 2 1/2 hours and I think WTF is going on. They would be exhausted after all that but also, are they fighting against the natural urge to push as it isn't something you can stop when the time comes.

Quip · 24/08/2012 20:28

DS1 2.5 hours
DS2 2 hours
DD 5cm dilated... 7 mins later she was here (after 3 pushes)

spiderlight · 24/08/2012 20:28

Yes - I pushed DS (my first) out in exactly 30 minutes. On my knees though. Could never have done it on my back.

Congratulations OnlyWantsOne!!

uggmum · 24/08/2012 20:32

My dd took nearly 2 hours to push out.

However, my ds flew out in 10 mins. I didn't push at all. The midwife was shouting at me to stop pushing and I was screaming back that I wasn't bloody pushing at all.

I went from 7 cm dilated to born in 10 mins. It was bloody painful though!

OhNoMyFoot · 24/08/2012 20:48

Third stage is the placenta .

Ds was 5 pushes, and out, dd was the same.

Rosebud05 · 24/08/2012 20:51

You've got a good chance of it being quick, given that it's your third baby.

I asked the midwife to break my waters when I was fully dilated, and dc3 practically surfed out immediately. I actually didn't realise he had been born - couldn't understand why the midwife told me to look behind me!

good luck.

moogalicious · 24/08/2012 20:53

yes, dc3 was out in about 3 pushes.

discrete · 24/08/2012 20:54

Yes, ds2 I only pushed once thinking maybe if I push a little the waters will break....and the baby shot out!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 24/08/2012 20:55

Yup - 6mins DS 4mins DD for me (no way in hell I could have survived longer than that!)

Sophisticatedknickers · 24/08/2012 20:57

DD1 was forceps (keillands) so I didn't really do any proper pushing. DD2, I'm not sure how long the actual pushing was, but bearing in mind we arrived at the hospital car park at 6.20 and she was born at 6.45 it can't have been more than a few mins. I vaguely remember pushing REALLY HARD twice and out she came along with lots of poo yuk Blush

CecilyP · 24/08/2012 20:58

Yes; I worked in medical records where details of labour were on mothers' case notes. In many cases, for second and subsequent babies, the second stage of labour was timed at 5 minutes.

MrClaypole · 24/08/2012 21:05

Yep

DS1 - 2 hours pushing, ventouse to get him out.

DS2 - popped out on the 2nd push.

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 24/08/2012 21:11

Yes, very possible. DD1 I pushed for over an hour then she was in distress, so forceps. DD2, about 10 minutes, max.

One very important thing - don't let them start timing the pushing stage until you feel the urge to push/realise you are pushing. Many women who have not been medicated (obviously epidural can interfere with this, etc) feel a pause between full dilation and the urge to push. Your body will want to push when it is ready. If they start timing from full dilation instead of when you want to push, you might lose a lot of your best window. Also, instinctive as opposed to coached pushing is likely to be more productive, especially when you have a proven history.

perplexedpirate · 24/08/2012 22:11

13 minutes. I'd had enough. I wanted that baby out now!

thepuddingchef · 24/08/2012 22:16

2nd baby, 18 minutes, 3rd baby 10 mins Grin

StarlightMcKenzie · 24/08/2012 22:18

So don't push. Women who give birth in comas don't.

exoticfruits · 24/08/2012 22:19

The midwife put 2 mins-I think it was less! He was however my 3rd.

Sarahplane · 24/08/2012 22:23

My first only took 2 or 3 pushes, my second about an hour but only because he was huge and back to back.
