Freaking out

Am 39+6 and have had a migraine all day so have been in bed.

DH has come home and made dinner as I still feel wobbly and there's still quite a bit of pressure in my head. Decided to go for a wee before sitting down to eat and when I wiped it was blood tinged.

This has tipped me over the edge! I've come back to bed, I don't want to eat anything in case I'm sick. I feel dizzy and have since had a bowel movement (not loose) and am now paranoid labour is going to start.

I suffer from panic and anxiety anyway but didn't realise I was this freaked about labour. I know this baby has to come out but I don't think I'm ready.

I'm scared of hospitals, I'm needle phobic, I'm scared of being sick, I'm just not sure I can cope.

I'm sorry for the rambling, I just needed to get it out. :(

Just to wish you luck. I've had a splitting headache all day, and I'm not even pregnant!

You will be fine. Do you have any twinges? Why don't you ring your midwife/birthing unit and see if someone can give advice re: the migrant?

Strix · 20/07/2012 20:59

Oh no. I'm not pregnant. But I do get migraines. They are the curse from Hell. I was definitely very VERY naughty in a previous life. But I can't even imagine embarking on labour / childbirth with a migraine. Poor you. If I could help I would.

Odd as it sounds, sometimes being sick actually reduces the headache.

Gosh, I really do feel bad for you. I hope it goes away before labour/delivery.

StarlightWithAsteroid · 20/07/2012 21:30

If you go into labour, phone delivery and say you are goin to have a homebirth after all. Then you'll get a mw out to you as soon as you need support and between you you can decide when and even 'if' you ever go into hospital. Having someone transfer you in can be very comforting.

AllIWant85 · 20/07/2012 21:41

Think things could be starting. Have lost more bloody gunk and have periody type pains.

I didn't realise how emotionally unprepared I am. I've done all the practical things and read up on every aspect of labour but none of that deals with my anxieties and phobias.

Don't be frightened, think of the most annoying woman you know who has children - she did it and you will too, brilliantly I'm sure.

Please try and take some paracetamol, have anything you can possibly manage to eat and go to bed for some rest if nothing else.

You can do this, you will do this and you're going to meet your baby very soon. I promise you this time next week you won't remember ever feeling like this.

Good luck!

tiddleypompom · 20/07/2012 21:54

All the best op - you will be able to do this. Trust your body - it was made for this wonderful choreographed process - you & your baby will work together. Try and take some deep breaths - have a bath perhaps?

Eyes on the prize :)

Strix · 21/07/2012 21:18

Are you still here? When my head hurts I can often be found in bed with a bag of frozen peas on my head.

Let us know how you are... (when/if you can)

AllIWant85 · 21/07/2012 23:42

Contractions started 3am Saturday morning. Nothing to severe, more like bad period pains really. They died down during the day but since 8pm tonight have increased again.

Currently every 7-10 minutes lasting about a minute each time and they really need breathing through.

I thought I had a fairly decent pain threshold but obviously not as if this is the beginning I dread to think what real labour will be like. :(

Another night of no sleep it would seem, wondering how long I can keep this up...

OP posts:
babyboomersrock · 21/07/2012 23:53

Maybe another night with no sleep, but a baby in the morning.

It sounds as though things are moving along well - try to deal with each contraction on its own. Don't think about the next one. Just do the breathing through it, and then try to distract yourself - listen to the radio, watch something on tv, anything.

Is someone with you? How's the migraine?

Flisspaps · 21/07/2012 23:57

All this could be 'real' labour - with DS my ctx were 6 minutes apart and 3-4minutes long right up until my waters were broken at 7cm. Not everyone follows the 3 minutes apart and 1 minute long pattern. Good luck Smile

AllIWant85 · 22/07/2012 00:02

My DH is asleep in the other bedroom, I don't want to wake him at the moment.

The migraine is a little better but when these contractions peak the pressure in my head is unreal.

hugandroll · 22/07/2012 00:08

Of you've had a migraine this long while pregnant you need to contact your hospital regardless of you being in labour or not in case it's linked to you Bp. Give them a call, say what's been going on and they will be able to advise. Like fliss said it could be real labour anyway. On ds2 I was about 5 mins apart got in the car and immediately went to 2 mins had a very very short labour and delivery so IMO worth checking it out.

AllIWant85 · 22/07/2012 00:17

Definitely not linked to BP, had that and urine checked this afternoon to make sure it wasn't PE symptoms.

OP posts:
babyboomersrock · 22/07/2012 00:21

I agree with hugandroll. Just call the hospital and tell them what's happening, and how long you've had the headache. And if you're feeling anxious, wake your DH. You shouldn't be sitting alone when you're feeling like that.

Take care.

babyboomersrock · 22/07/2012 00:23

Oops, slow typing here...good that you've had it checked out.

Still think you should tell your husband you need him around.

babyboomersrock · 22/07/2012 10:38

How are you this morning? Any progress? Thinking of you and hoping it's all going well.

AllIWant85 · 22/07/2012 10:55

Still 1 every 7-10mins. I'm exhausted.

Going to wait until this afternoon and weigh up my options re going to hospital as I can not take another night like the last two.

OP posts:
shimmy0 · 22/07/2012 15:24

Ive been following your posts, I hope you go at some point today, hospitals aren't that bad, I know a lot of women give birth at home these days but if you decide to go into hospital, it won't be for that long and you will be going home with your little baby very soon.

babyboomersrock · 22/07/2012 19:59

Hope things have got going properly and that you're seeing real progress now - still thinking about you and hoping you meet your little baby before long.

AllIWant85 · 22/07/2012 20:45

Still no change, contractions are still regular but not at the magic 5 minute mark.

Advice from the hospital is to rest, take more painkillers and have a bath, which is exactly what I have been doing the past 2 days!

By the time I get to labour I will be so tired I won't have anything left to give.

Going to have myself a little cry, not that it'll achieve anything. :(

OP posts:
emsyj · 22/07/2012 20:49

Do you want to go into hospital? They might be able to either give you some pain relief so you can rest, or examine you and confirm that you're further on than you think. Maybe go anyway just for some reassurance?

babyboomersrock · 22/07/2012 21:08

Remember you will already be in labour - no-one really knows how far along you are at the moment, so don't despair. If you feel like crying, go ahead, though.

Labour is an emotional experience and you must be feeling pretty worn out...but when you need it, you'll probably find you get a surge of energy to complete the job.

If you're exhausted, I don't suppose you've tried going for a walk to speed things up? Worked for two of my labours.

AllIWant85 · 22/07/2012 21:31

Ive tried walking around the house and garden for an hour at a time. It doesn't help that I have SPD so it feels like everything is going to shatter! It increases the intensity a bit but not the frequency.

Thank you all for your support, it really does help to offload some of my thoughts. :)

OP posts:
FatimaLovesBread · 22/07/2012 21:39

Have you a birth ball? That can help with the SPD, well it does with mine but i'm only 22 weeks.
I empathise with the anxiety, I've suffered from health anxiety and panic attacks previously and so i'm worried how I'll react in labour.

Have the baths helped you relax at all?

babyboomersrock · 24/07/2012 09:18

Any more news, OP? Hope all is well.
