If you didn't do perineal massage...did you tear?

I've been really bad - meant to do the perineal message stuff but haven't done it regularly. Am now DREADING the massive tear or episiotomy which is heading my way.

Just wondered whether I could find any positive stories to cheer me up and reassure me that my rubbishness hasn't necessarily equalled massive tearing and pain etc.

I was really worried about this as I didn't do the massage at all. I had a slight tear 2 stitches but honestly it's not a big deal. Even if u do tear slightly u won't feel it happen. Having the stitches isn't too pleasant but after giving birth it's easy! I'm not sure I believe the massage stops tears anyway I think the main thing to stop that happening is really try and listen - when the midwife tells u to stop pushing and pant do it for as long as possible. It's really hard but worth it. With or without stitches ul be fins Grin

I didn't do it and i ended up with only a small graze

I didn't do it, ended up with a small tear as DS came out with his hand by his face, it only needed 2 stitches and the midwife said I probably didn't need it stitching but it was just to make sure I healed well. I laboured flat on my back as well - got to the hospital at 10cm dilated, lay on my back for an internal and then couldn't move!

Oh, I remember that - I couldn't even reach my bits, never mind stretch them!

NEver bothered, had three giant babies and no tear with any of them.

I guess you are either blessed with a flappy fanny or not.

I didn't do it and didn't tear (just a small graze, no stitches or anything). DD was 8lbs- I really really tried to listen to the midwife about when not to push! Don't worry too much Smile (it'll still be sore afterwards though, no one warned me!)

Oh and DD was born back to back with a hand over her face! Not sure what that says about my lady bits Blush
