I didn't tear first time around I had a forceps delivery so had an episiotomy.

When having dd2 my scar where the episiotomy had been ripped open. It didn't hurt in anyway it just sort of felt like a pop, the midwives stitched me up and very kindly told me that I didn't have as many stitches as the first time, I didn't ask how many there were. I also healed a lot quicker second time around.

Tore with ds1 but not with ds2! (i listened more to the midwife with ds2!)

harrisey · 16/02/2006 07:11

I had a 2nd degree with dd1 (10lb), tore a little (not needing stitches) along the previous tear with ds (9lb) and then, for some awful reason, had 3rd degree with dd2 (7.5 lb). Was repaired in theatre twice aftger that it was awful.
But dd2 was my only 'normal' labour, the other 2 were back labour and I had no urge to push, I think with dd2 I pushed too hard IYSWIM.

Shaysmummy I was like you 2nd degree tear with DD1 took ages for them to stitch me back up ended up getting a doc to do it as none of the MWs seemed able to! With DD2 I was terrified of tearing again as I was having a homebirth this time. In the end all I ended up with was a little tear that didn't require stitches.

If you think DD1 was 6lbs 3ozs and DD2 9lbs 3ozs it is amazing. With DD1 she was born with her hands by her face which did the damage and I never waited and panted for the head,s he just shot out. With DD2 the lovely MWs knew my fears and made me wait and also guided the head out. DP says it was the most amazing and wierd sight of his life, DD2's head was born but her body wasn't and she was looking about.

Healing with DD1 wasn't bad but even better with DD2, can't recommend daily baths with lavender oil, bliss.

Tore with all three births. I chose to tear with all three births instead of being cut. Ist was bad luck, 2nd was extremely fast 2nd stage (3 mins) and 3rd was also reasonably fast. Had no probs with stitches or anyting though.

cathyspam · 16/02/2006 10:33

Yes but not as badly as i did 1st time. DS1 3rd degree tear and ds2 2nd degree. They both weighed exactly the same at 8lb 1oz. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

hunkermunker · 16/02/2006 10:33

I had a second degree tear with DS1 and was really scared of it happening again. Delivered in water with him, in a supported squat. Took ages to heal, lots of scar tissue, absolutely convinced that I'd have a worse time this time round.

Had DS2 a month ago and had six or seven stitches internally - nothing like as bad as last time. Delivered him on a bed on all fours - a much better position IMO if you're worried about tearing again.

hunkermunker · 16/02/2006 10:36

Agree re head size making a difference - DS1's was 37cm and DS2's was 34.8cm.

karli · 11/08/2006 22:40

Reece · 11/08/2006 22:56

Beauregard · 11/08/2006 22:58

Dd1-slight tear and grazing -no stitches(much pain)
dd2-same again but no pain really.

Eulalia · 11/08/2006 23:14

No. slight tear with first and he was only 6lbs 2oz. second was much bigger, she was 8lbs 7oz but I didn't tear at all. 'cheated' with no 3 as I had a CS
