i had 2nd degree with first.
was wondering if it tends to happen again for most?
midwife says it probably wont.

BTW Ds1 was 8lb 8oz and ds2 8lb 5oz so not much difference in weight either.

ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 21:25

Yes that sound familiar Claist, the midwife wasn't going to examine me again when i said i was nearly there as she'd just done me recently, she begrudginly had a look and said, 'oh do you need to push?'.....a few minutes later we met dd2.

Angeliz · 14/02/2006 21:28

Calista

Calista · 14/02/2006 21:38

LOL Angeliz, she nearly wet herself when she lifted the sheet casually and saw his head! DH was ordered to press the emergency button NOW to get another midwife in to assist with the delivery and I was told to pant and not push as she rushed round getting her gloves on and stuff. We laughed about it afterwards but I was pretty spaced on the G and A at the time so it was all a bit hazy!

ShaysMummy, I'm sure you'll be fine. I was sat up on the bed and ds2 was on constant monitoring as there had been some blood in my waters (prob from me, GOD it hurt when she broke them that time, the bag must have been tough!) and that should have made it a tougher delivery in such an awkward position. Something that I'm sure added to it being easier was that ds2 has a beautiful neat little round head, not abnormally so but the midwife even commented on what a beautiful shape it was, 'like a c-section baby', whereas ds1 has quite a big head. It must be all in the head!

ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 21:39

I've always wondered how midwives define a 'graze' too!

i had a tear with ds2 but it wasn't stitched 2nd degree i think they said. why wasn't i stitched i wonder?

ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 21:46

i was told 'you have a small graze near your 'wee hole' so that will sting like buggery!'
and it did, more than the actual tear!

OP posts:
ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 21:47

i insisted my 2nd degree didnt need sticthing but she insisted it did. she said it was bleeding too much.
maybe you weren't bleeding too badly?

I had an episiotomy with dd (only 5lb 9) which hurt like hell for weeks afterwards.

With ds, 1lb heavier, I had a second degree tear which I was oblivous to - and no pain afterwards. Stitches with both though.

notasheep · 14/02/2006 21:51

1st dd 7lb 11oz took them an age to stitch me up
2nd ds 9lb 10oz NOT A STITCH!!!

Hope this will give you some confidence,I was so paranoid during 2nd pregnancy. So after ds i shouted YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! No stithces!

dd1 had to be delivered in a big hurry by ventouse and I was badly torn (over an hour in theatre under GA for the repair ) but dd2 was over 2lb bigger and I had 2 stitches. dd3 was in a hurry and I had a small but awkward tear which needed 6 stitches. Midwives stitch much better IMHO.

ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 21:58

does anyone know how grazes come about?
babies are soft and squishy and smooth!!

OP posts:
TambaTheDragonSlayer · 14/02/2006 22:06

didnt tear with either

Roobie · 14/02/2006 22:08

With dd I had a tear and some stitches. I delivered ds (1 lb heavier than dd) without midwife assistance at home and only ended up with a minor graze.

ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 22:14

im feeling more confident now, it seems most people didnt tear with no2 or only sustained minor damage.
does how strong/toned you pelvic floor is have any efect?

OP posts:
Thomcat · 14/02/2006 22:15

Didn't tear with either.
First was 7lb 7oz and 2nd was 8lb 4oz.

ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 22:17

ahh thomcat, so your 2nd baby was bigger.

OP posts:
ShaysMummy · 14/02/2006 22:18
