Does gas and air make you nauseous?

One midwife said yes the other said no, labour itself makes you nauseous.

Not me. I loved it Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 10/04/2012 22:43

Neither made me nauseous. I LOVED G&A. Went through 2 canisters with both DC

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 10/04/2012 22:44

I hated it. It fucked up my labour and pretty much caused all the issues that happened.

Sl1nkyMalinki · 10/04/2012 22:45

Not me! I inhaled rather a lot of it and my fingers and feet went numb but that might just be me!

MousyMouse · 10/04/2012 22:48

it can, but labour can as well.
it gives you something to do which can help cope with the pain (I don't think it did anything for me pain wise, but gave a nice tipsy feeling)

Springforward · 10/04/2012 22:49

Not me. Loved it!

StarlightMcEggsie · 10/04/2012 22:50

It's a waste of time when the contractions properly hurt.

Didn't bother with the useless suff for no.2

FlipFantasia · 10/04/2012 22:50

It made me nauseaous in my first labour...though labour also made me nauseaous (I hyperstimulated after being induced) so I was being sick anyway. Second time around I was sick a bit when my contractions were coming 4 in every 10 mins. I then had about 10 mins of G&A and it didn't make me sick at all. I think I wasn't using it properly first time around.

oreocrumbs · 10/04/2012 22:52

Oh I was so sick!

I was gutted because I had been looking forward to using G&A for years, two puffs and I was throwing up everywhere!!

I gave it up but did keep the plastic tube bit and puffed on fresh air and bit down on it! That was very theraputic!!

RobynLou · 10/04/2012 22:52

Yes, I had one inhalation and hated it. Didn't have any more, was better to have no pain relief than feel woozy and horrid. They tried to get me to have it when they stitched me up after, I had another bit and it was hideous, so again went without.
Had it in my first labour though and was fine.

youbethemummylion · 10/04/2012 22:52

Didn't make me feel sick made me feel fantastic but also a little out of it, I had a lot over a long period of time with DS1 and I think it slowed labour down as really I was so "off my head" I really felt no need to push. They had to take it off me in the end.

Only had a little with DS2 in the ambulance on the way to the hospital as he was very quick! I do think maybe the lack of pain relief with DS2 was a contributory factor to how quick he came.

It is fantastic stuff and I would recommend it but in moderation.

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 10/04/2012 22:53

Not me loved it. Think it can be different even labour to labour.

Beamur · 10/04/2012 22:53

It made my head spin but was still preferable to labour without it.

bronze · 10/04/2012 22:56

It made me sick for all my labours

kikid · 10/04/2012 23:02

it made me feel sick, only 3puffs too. everyone different i guess..

ToxicToria · 10/04/2012 23:06

Yeah I only had one puff of it and felt so sick I didn't want anymore

5madthings · 10/04/2012 23:06

didnt make me sick at all, i LOVE the stuff! Grin

its one of those things that you wont know until you try i think tbh, but it helped me get through all 5 of my labours, i heart it muchly!

StarlightMcEggsie · 10/04/2012 23:10

It was completely ineffective and 'meh' during the labour.

Helped with the stitches though.

openerofjars · 10/04/2012 23:12

I loooooooooooved it: I was off my face on it. It was free AND legal.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 10/04/2012 23:48

No sickness with me, loved the stuff!

tentative123 · 10/04/2012 23:54

Yuk! It's still giving me the shivers 4 weeks on! Helped a bit though and was a reasonable distraction at a couple of points

planetpotty · 11/04/2012 00:01

Another with no sickness and great love for the G&A! Grin

The feeling for me was like being (naice) drunk Wink

Rosebud05 · 11/04/2012 00:04

Made me feel sick and stoned and like I couldn't be arsed to give birth.

Not terribly helpful under the circumstances, so I stopped using it pretty quickly and didn't bother using it with subsequent births.

DerbysKangaskhan · 11/04/2012 00:20

G&A made me nauseous, light-headed, and just awful with my first, I hated it. I had it pushed in my face after my third to stop me screaming as they yanked on the cord (hurt worse than the just done labour) and it made me light headed and awful again. With my fourth, I had a very thoughtful midwife help me use it, very slowly and hold it in for a moment before slowly blowing out, and it helped me get my mind back, take the edge off, and helped me cope with a horrid transition.

I also vomited before having it with my first, with my third, and twice with my fourth (my second birth was super magic unicorn no sick zone Grin ). Labour can indeed make you sick, had more than one midwife say it was a good sign that things were progressing and one say it can help push a baby down (though I think she just said that to make me feel better at being stuck at 9cm for forever).

fussbucket · 11/04/2012 00:23

Planetpotty the feeling for me was like being (veryverynastyindeed) drunk!
