Is feeling really antsy and on edge a sign of imminent labour?

Go on, indulge me, I could have 5 weeks of these threads yet Wink I feel odd. I'm 37 weeks and have been having braxton hicks for weeks and generally feeling a bit rubbish, with low iron levels and just a general feeling of hitting that wall. But today I feel weird. I feel on edge for no reason, jumpy and adrenaliny, I just can't sit still. I also feel like I'd like nothing more than to just get in a cold shower and stay there, I suddenly feel really constricted by my clothes, which I know I did in labour with ds. I also feel a bit odd (sorry) in the fanjo area, I know baby is right down and so putting pressure there which probably explains it.
Ds has been ill since the weekend so it does occur to me that I may just be coming down with something and feeling a bit 'off'. But did anyone feel like this before labour kicked off?

currently 40 + 3 and been feeling like that for about 3 weeks. sorry :(

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 28/02/2012 17:44

deardear, I think it's wishful thinking. I've never been earlier than 41+2 Hmm

BikeRunSki · 28/02/2012 17:46

It was for me first time. Baby came that night. 37+5

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 28/02/2012 17:50

That's what I like to hear BikeRunSki Grin The hardest ting for me at this very moment is just that my body feels very odd. My limbs just feel restless, like they want to do something but don't really know what. I suspect this may be what a bad trip feels like....

I am 37 weeks today and feel exactly like that. dc1 was nearly 3 weeks early, I am living in hope. Had reflexology today and hoping for a leap year baby : BRING IT ON

scortja · 28/02/2012 21:51

I've been feeling like this too and am 37 + 6 - but I suspect I'm tricking myself into it because I want a leap year baby so much!

I can't stay asleep for longer than a few hours but aren't motivated enough to do anything while I am awake - so I sit around doing a mental scan of my body trying to work out if I can feel any symptoms that labour is imminent! It's really not healthy..

scortja · 28/02/2012 21:52

Hmm - that wasn't written very well - sorry - maybe a sign that my brain is shutting down to prepare for/concentrate on upcoming birth?

Davinaaddict · 28/02/2012 22:30

I've been feeling the same since the weekend & am 38+3. I'm not particularly wanting a leap year baby, but would be happy if this one came early, as I'm fed up with work & still have another week to do Grin Plus DS is away for the next 2 nights do it would certainly be convenient!

Of course I know that means it won't be imminent though bloody sods law Also DS was born at 40+16 so I'll be very surprised if this one arrives before my due date.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 29/02/2012 07:02

Everyone still here? I got up at about half past 12 with some fairly regular contractions but most of the pain was in my back, which makes sense as baby is posterior. Is forgotten that they don't just stop when they reach a peak but gradually taper back down again. Ouch. But it seems to have cone to nothing, I justfeel massively uncomfortable and tired as I didn't sleep a wink. Dreading having to climb the hill to get ds to school, and have a poorly ds at home when all I want to do is go to bed. I might call the midwife later of these pains keep up so I can see of they're actually getting me anywhere. I'm used to labour starting with a gush of my waters so this 'am I, aren't I' is a new one for me.

Joygirl78 · 29/02/2012 07:20

I am still here. Hopeful it could come at any time, but also resigned to fact that one early baby does not automatically guarantee another one :-( DC1 with childminder today, so planning a long walk and several gallons of rasp leaf tea. Wonder if I will still be pregnant a month from now. This thought fills me with horror

GusTheOneEyedPolarBear · 29/02/2012 07:55

Felt exactly like that with both my boys, like you can't sit still and really shakey, right? Also with DS2 I felt overwhelmingly at the same time, I quite literally passed out on the sofa at 5.30pm day through tiredness the day before I went into labour.
Fingers crossed for you, never know you could have a leap year baby :o

GusTheOneEyedPolarBear · 29/02/2012 07:55

That should say overwhelmingly tired, tired myself atm

Sonriente · 29/02/2012 08:01

Oh i was googling this last night. I'm 40 weeks today. Spent the whole of yesterday on edge, cleaning like a maniac and generally driving myself and husband mad. Went to bed early fully expecting that last night would be the night.... Nothing! This actually could go on for days yet- Aargghh!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 29/02/2012 09:09

I still feel massively agitated. Dp just called to say his boss is letting him leave at lunchtime, so he's going to entertain ds and collect dd from school so I can rest. So I only have 3 or so hours to struggle through on the sofa before I can go back to bed which has made the day suddenly seem much more bearable. Am losing bits of blobby mucus (sorry) in dribs and drabs, just like happened with ds just before my waters gushed so here's hoping.

Oh i'm so jealous!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 29/02/2012 17:20

Well no more noticeable contractions here, though my stomach is completely rock hard when I'm upright, not painful though. I've still got killer back pain though, I have a deep heat pad stuck to my back and have been groaning quietly all afternoon. If it's still an issue tomorrow I might waddle to the shops and buy a giant gym ball to drape myself over. I know from my previous 2 that I have no luck whatsoever trying to turn OP babies until I'm actually in labour, but I've never had this back pain before so I can only assume baby is lying on a nerve perhaps. Nesting and agitation has died down too. This time yesterday I was cleaning like a madwoman. Today I just can't be arsed Hmm

thejaffacakesareonme · 01/03/2012 10:37

Poor you. Hopefully things will start off soon. I've been willing my baby to come too. I've been getting really painful braxton hicks when I walk outside or am on my feet much in the house and also have backpain as baby is back to back. No signs of a show though. I just wish the bh would escalate into labour. I'm off to wash the kitchen floor on my hands and knees to see if that'll do anything.

MrsCog · 01/03/2012 12:42

Hi Fuckity, can I join your thread - I'm 39+2 and starting to get 'edgy' too, had a show yesterday, and a lot of pressure/pain down below, but I know this can go on for ages so I'm trying hard to just bounce on my ball and not get too excited. My SI joint is really playing up all of a sudden as well so I can barely walk, I thought I'd missed out on the PGP but it seems that it can start this late on!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 01/03/2012 13:15

I have to say, I feel so much more sprightly today. I think lounging around yesterday doing pretty much bugger all except moaning about the pain Blush was enough to restore my energy. I slept much better and have managed a mammoth walk this morning. I did feel some contractions on the way home, and have a very definate head engaged rather deep down now, and the back pain has eased right up. All being well ds is back at nursery tomorrow so I'm weighing up wether to have another long walk or coming home and resting again. I'm still losing the plug in pieces and having niggles, but nothing like the other night. I may well be here for the longhaul. In my head though I feel as prepared as I'll ever be. I just want it to happen and to bring our baby home now, whereas before it felt like some very distant thing that I almost thought would never happen. I know feeling more 'settled' and prepared was one of the things I'm convinced made ds finally show up many days late. Once I relaxed and stopped trying to micromanage everything, my body relaxed. So I've been doing my paperwork, have called EDF to tell them to kiss my arse to lower my direct debit payment which they've been misleading me about all year (£500 in credit, the bastards Shock) and make sure there's nothing that I'm thinking 'ooo I really should get round to doing that'. House is tidy, bills are paid, food cupboards are stocked. So come on baby.

MrsCog · 01/03/2012 16:06

Ah that's good - that's how I've felt until today, but my back is so painful now that I can bearly walk so I'm now approaching the 'arghh get this baby out!' stage. Hopefully a day of rest will help calm it down...

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 01/03/2012 16:10

Can someone go out and get you a heatpad? Dp stuck one on me yesterday and it was lovely. I had a hot water bottle strapped on most of the day as well. I'm amazed I;ve managed to avoid SPD this time round too, with both other dc it was absolutely horrendous by about 25 weeks and I was dreading it this time round. The sun has made me feel much better too, I suddenly feel very relaxed. Maybe I'm trying to trick myself that this is the calm before the storm Grin I have to say, the contractions I had on Tuesday night scared me a little, as even though they were mild in comparison to real labour pains, they were just bad enough to remind me what's in store. I've been so set on a waterbirth that I'm worried it'll all go tits up. And 2 friends have given birth in the last 2 days, both my emergency section, which scares me even more.

OP posts:
fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 02/03/2012 18:44

You still about MrsCog? Any news? I had what I think was a bloody show this morning and have been feeling a bit off since, like I'm coming down with something. Still feeling much better than I was though, back pain completely gone though the period type pains have returned. Am off for a bath to see if that helps, while dp cooks fajitas Grin Have done my last check of my bags, I have promised myself I'll leave them alone and stop checking them now.

OP posts:
MrsCog · 02/03/2012 21:36

Yes I'm still here! In absolute agony with my back unfortunately but trying to stay cheerful. It's a shame as I'd planned loads of fun things to do this weekend and over the next 2 weeks to stop me from fixating on when the baby will arrive but I can now barely walk unaided so leaving the house currently seems like an impossibility! Excellent call on the heat pack though - I already had one so Dh is on 'wheaty' duty :)
Have lost more plug over past 24 hours and had some 'low down' aching as well but just desperate for dc to arrive now. Your symptoms sound hopeful :) I'll keep everything crossed for you!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 03/03/2012 17:03

Nada. Nothing. I got asked today by 2 lovely old women in a shop though when I was due, which has NEVER happened til I've gone overdue before (and I'm still relatively small looking) so I'm taking that as a SIGN. And I also got told off by the woman at the counter for wanting clary sage Hmm when she didn't believe I was 38 weeks today. Why on earth would I lie fgs. I'm getting movements ridiculously low down today, I can almost feel him punching through my pelvic bone right at the front. I had a houseful of poorly dc last night, dd was crying in pain with a headache, ds was coughing all night with the horrid hacking cough he's had all week so I'm tired yet again which I think makes every ache and pain worse, so I'll be off for a bath and early bed again (minus the clary sage, the witch)

OP posts:
MrsCog · 03/03/2012 21:57

Nothing here either, still in quite a lot of pain but walking is easier today (thank goodness). It sounds like you're really going through it - hope you had a nice bath (although unfortunate about the clary sage!). Now I'm approaching the magical 40 week mark the texts/fb msgs of 'any signs' have kicked in...thinking of going underground for 2 weeks - I just want to be left alone!
