DS1 3 hour 2nd stage with ventouse and then shoulder dystocia. He was 7lb 14oz.

Ds2 I developed poyhydramnios plus big baby on scan. Consultant said I needed CS as previous SD and 1/100 risk dead baby. He was 9lb 5oz.

Anyway I would love another baby but HATED the cs experience and am scared that as nothing has changed would definately have to have another. This is to the point that it would put me off another baby.

Is there evidence that you do need cs after a previous SD? I know studies show no reason to do cs to avoid one but this does not seem to qualify if things are different if you have had one before (IYSWIM!. Any mumsnetters personal experience of this?

Thanks.

Hello mears. Thanks for helping.

I think they did mcRoberts and suprapubic pressure. Also I seem to remember it might have been about 6 mins from head out to shoulder out. Would that be about right? Seemed like much longer though.

I can't tell you how many times I keep going through it in my mind. I can't help thinking that the cs with ds2 may not have been needed and spent ages saying 'what if'. Noone else gets it, as far as they are concerned I have a healthy baby. Thats true and I am grateful but as I would like another baby it is playing on my mind. TBH I kind of get the impression that most of the midwives I saw post cs were quite surprised that it had been recommended, Do you think his size or the polyhdramnios played a part.

Anyway these are my thoughts. I now think maybe a full bladder delayed my 2nd stage which lead to ventouse etc. I wonder whether if they have emptied my bladder earlier I could have delivered in a better position and hence no problems.

Do you thnk a vbac would be a possibility? Its just it says that my reason for original cs still there. Or maybe if it seemed to be a smaller baby next time it would be ok? Would a doula or independant midwife help?

Sorry to ramble but I hated my cs sooooo much.

Full bladder can certainly interfere with second stage. I think that VBAC is possible if the circumstances are right ie spontaneous labour with good progress in first and second stage. A decision about delivery could be left open till you see how the pregnancy progresses.

Thanks I feel slightly more positive now. I know it would be a stressful vbac but I know how amazing it would be if it went ok. I assume I would get scans as previous polydramnios so it may depend on babies size I guess. Will let you know if it ever happens
