Possibly most vain ELCS question ever?????

MrsCog · 01/02/2012 20:30

I am currently not sure if i'll be having a VB or ELCS with DC1 (breech at the moment), but am trying to get prepared for either outcome. I was just wondering, if you have an ELCS, what do they do with your hair - does it get tied back under a theatre hat? My hair only needs washing every 4 days or so, and so I'm thinking that if I end up with ELCS, as long as my hair doesn't get wet, then at least I can do my hair the night before and then take a shower cap in to hospital so one of the upsides will be nicer hair for the photos!!!! (I'm not normally this vain, but just trying to keep cheery!).

I don't think you wear a hat. If you take someone in with you, they will. In our hospital my husband had to wear a differently coloured hat from everyone else in the room, to distinguish him as someone who 'knew nothing about what was going on. '

I know what you mean about photos. But the day after when you are walked to the showers so you can remove the tape, and you've had no sleep on a hot ward, I wanted clean hair smelling of shampoo not hospital !

DaisySteiner · 01/02/2012 20:39

It may depend on the hospital. Many don't put the mother's hair under a theatre hat, but some do, so probably best to ask. (I've spent today working in obstetric theatre and I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't remember whether mums have hats on or not Blush)

Even if you do need a hat, it probably won't be on for that long (an hour, maybe less) so shouldn't do too much damage. I wear a theatre hat most of the day and it gets a bit flattened but a blast with my hairdryer at the end of the day improves it a lot!

Nevercan · 01/02/2012 21:02

They didn't put anything on my head Smile

Jules125 · 01/02/2012 21:10

I wore a fetching blue plastic shower cap thingy - so some places do make you wear them. In fact it actually fell off me quite quickly in the theatre so in the photos my hair is loose with a blue thing in the background. Even if my hair had been looking good, I would still have looked pretty rough overall in the photos (despite it being ELCS for transverse lie).

FutureNannyOgg · 01/02/2012 21:11

I didn't get a hat. Don't let that influence your decision though Wink

PetuniaFlipflop · 01/02/2012 21:11

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember if I wore a hat or not during my ELCS (almost 4 years ago).

My hair looked nice in the photos though, so maybe not? Grin

FutureNannyOgg · 01/02/2012 21:14

Oh but you have to see this: How unflustered and well turned out is she!

Warning: video has CS footage.

I will have a surgical hat.

I will probably wash & blow-dry the night before and a friend gave me a tip of putting my hair in side bunches so I wasn't lying on a knot at the back throughout the operation.

I've bought some dry shampoo to give it a boost if needs be.

Tbh I'm more mithered about the ban on make-up! Wink

BearBehavingBadly · 02/02/2012 05:45

I has a surgical cap on, didn't wreck my hair.

civilfawlty · 02/02/2012 05:50

I had to wear a hat. I was mine every other day, so I did it the day before, thinking id shower the following day-but actually, getting into the shower was tricky and didn't happen til late afternoon and I wished I'd washed it on the day of the CS so it felt super fresh iyswim. God that shower was good though...

KristinaM · 02/02/2012 05:56

Dh and i both were given surgical hats

CoffeeMum · 02/02/2012 05:57

Um. My friend is having an ELCS this week. She's getting it because her baby died last year. Please, please have a good think about whether this is truly an important issue in the grand scheme of things.

And for what it's worth, i looked absolutely terrible in the photo showing my me with my newborn DS, but I still beam when I look at it because it shows my first DC coming into the world Smile

All the best for your ELCS Smile

LadyWidmerpool · 02/02/2012 06:42

I had a hat for my EMCS, I didn't have to tue my hair back though. You'll be on a lot of drugs so be prepared to look tired and/or discombobulated at best. Good luck.

BagofHolly · 02/02/2012 06:49

I had a hat for the first bit and they took it off once the baby was out. And I had my hair and nails done the day before so I looked nice on my photos!

mercibucket · 02/02/2012 06:55

Oh leave her alone coffeemum.( I'm sorry about your friend )

AlpinePony · 02/02/2012 07:36

coffeemum honestly, it's not about looking like a supermodel on the table and some of us are elcs due to an emcs last time - and yes, I look like shit in my photos, no sleep for days, no shower from Mon-sat in 35+ heat and so tired I'm cross-eyed! ;) I don't really care anyway because I'm holding my son - but if I can look a little less like an escaped convict this time it would be nice!

BikeRunSki · 02/02/2012 07:45

2 emcs.
No hats.

If you do have a cs, take shower gel and shampoo in a bottle with a hook, you'll find it very difficult to bend for a few days.

Meglet · 02/02/2012 07:53

I didn't wear a hat for my EMCS or ELCS. I did have a tizz about not being able to wear contacts for my ELCS but they talked sense into me so I wore my glasses. In fact, they took my ponytail out for my EMCS. I remember the consultant did it and said he was quite experienced as he had little girls Grin.

I did manage to wear mascara both times as it wasn't obvious make-up.

Ephiny · 02/02/2012 07:55

Is it normal to be photographed immediately after giving birth now? Shock. I don't think I'd be letting anyone come near me with a camera at a time like that!

BagofHolly · 02/02/2012 08:00

I was photographew throughout the surgery never mind straight after! I looked nice, considering!

PosieParker · 02/02/2012 08:05

Hmmmm well I went in early morning on the day of each of mine and in my photos in OP I have no hat on, and I did my hair that morning AND had make up in recovery shots!!! And I did wear my lenses...
