Possibly most vain ELCS question ever?????

I am currently not sure if i'll be having a VB or ELCS with DC1 (breech at the moment), but am trying to get prepared for either outcome. I was just wondering, if you have an ELCS, what do they do with your hair - does it get tied back under a theatre hat? My hair only needs washing every 4 days or so, and so I'm thinking that if I end up with ELCS, as long as my hair doesn't get wet, then at least I can do my hair the night before and then take a shower cap in to hospital so one of the upsides will be nicer hair for the photos!!!! (I'm not normally this vain, but just trying to keep cheery!).

Sorry, that was snippy of me, i'm afraid i posted in haste Sad

I really do wish you well for your birth and i'm sure you'll look fab in your photos [most of all, because you'll be a brand new mum]

I really apologise, i think seeing what my friend went through has made me a bit touchy. Thinking back, I nearly took in hair straighteners for the birth of my first DC, so i do see where you're coming from.

Hope you forgive me bringing down your thread.

I honestly can't remember if i had a hat on or not. But am due to have an ELCS in a couple of weeks so will find out then. Manshape will have three hats on though.

BagofHolly · 02/02/2012 08:13

Lol at 3 hats! My (big rugby shaped) DH had scrubs on so tight you could see what religion he was!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/02/2012 08:14

No hat here. Recommend some dry shampoo though.

deemented · 02/02/2012 08:18

BagofHolly - he has to wear three as the proper ones that go over his feet aren't big enough and the only things that will fit are the hats...

DonInKillerHeels · 02/02/2012 08:19

It took 5 minutes, no hat. Don't worry about your hair!

ayearoverdue · 02/02/2012 10:36

No hat for me and they didn't make me take my make up off (not that much was left after two days of induction) they did make me take my contact lenses out so I had to wear my glasses.

HappyAsASandboy · 02/02/2012 10:44

I didn't have a hat, but they asked me to tie it back, and tied it with a scrap of gauze as my hair elastic had a metal bit. You can't have any metal on you (so no jewelry, metal hair clips etc) because they use a magnetic heat sealer or something, which could heat up any metal on you. I like to think of them using a kind of induction hob to seal off blood vessels!

It will allbe fine - go in with clean hair tied back with non-metallic band, shake hair out for photos :-) or don't bother, and look a wreck in the photos like I do Smile

PosieParker · 02/02/2012 10:47

Just checked photos and definitely no hat, DH looked scrummy in scrubs though!!

ayearoverdue · 02/02/2012 10:49

My DP looked scrummy in scrubs too, am considering a career change for him :)

Highlander · 02/02/2012 13:23

I had to wear a hatwith DS1 but I discreetlybwhipped it off once the CS started. No-one noticed.

With DS2 no hat, I wore mascara and had bright red toe polish Grin

Highlander · 02/02/2012 13:25

DH is a doctor so I'm used to seeing him in scrubs.

However, as just a dad in theatre he wore the civvies option of orange scrubs and big white wellies. He looked like a prisoner working in the prison kitchen Wink

helsinkihelen · 02/02/2012 16:11

I have long hair, so i naturally tie it back - so i don't know if they would have asked me to if it wasn't - but no hat and no contacts. They had me up and about and in the shower about 9 hours after and i was able to wash my hair.

Good luck with the birth - there's nowt wrong with wanting to look nice in the photos - after all they will most probably be the most looked at/precious photos you will ever take.xxx

P.s. yes i agree posieparker the OH deffo rocked the scrubs look :0)

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful - It's not just about the photos, it's also good to know that my hair will stay 'freshish' for 3 days (4 with batiste!!) so I won't feel so horrid during the recovery.

I didn't know that about contacts though, and my glasses don't stay on lying down :( (the arms are too long IYSWIM)..... don't know what to do about this!

Thanks for beaqring with such a vain topic, but thinking about the intracacies is really helping - especially as I keep waking up crying in the night as I'm worried about whether DC1 is breech for a 'reason' like a short cord which will be dangerous for him, or whether he's just stubborn like his Dad already! Hopefully after my scan nxt week everything will be much clearer!

Apology accepted coffeemum I hope everything goes well for your friend :)
