Hi ladies.

I'm 10 days over today and well and truly fed up of it! That said in still looking for positive stories of people that went way over and still birthed naturally...or if you must a positive induction story although I am trying not to think about that yet!

Is it possible that this LO will arrive in the next 3-4 days or should I resign self to intervention...!

Pls help :)

hi k4mi

i feel for you i was 7 days over and i was fed up too,
i started my contractions on the 7th day at 12am and i was due to have a membrane sweep that day i carried on throughout the night and rang my midwive and she said she would still come at 11am if i was still at home and oh my god i was in pain lol she did the sweep and i was 4cm dilated oh my the contractions really hurt after that,
i could hold on any longer so i told my partner i wanted to go to the hospital,
i got to the hospital at 12.30pm and the midwife checked me and i was 5cm dilated and my waters broke as she did this but my daughter and a lil poo in me so she had to be monitored.

it was horrible because i had the urge to push so i push and the midwife told me to stop but i couldnt it was such a big urge for anhour i pushed every minute when i wasnt surpose to the midwife checked me and the head was out ha ha they wasnt expecting that hahaha

so yes membrane sweep and induction are good and also i only used gas and air for the last 10 min it was magical

i wish you all the luck in the world and hope for your lil one to be healthy and hopefully want to come out soon ha

Hello - POOR you!! I know how you feel, remember it only too well. Our trust down here (Dorset) will not allow mothers to go over 10 days, so I think I would be in there asking to be induced. On day 10, I asked to be left for one or two more days and they wouldn't' have it! God I was scared, i had heard so many horror stories. After being induced and having waters broken I waited for 2 hours until first twinge, I had 6 hours from start to finish. I did give in at 8cm and had some pethadine, which was nice and relaxing, but for me didnt' do much for the pain, so I had an epidural as the contractions were quite heavy going. 2 hrs later, after no pain, no shouting and a very nice relaxing time DD was born. My legs were back to their normal self after 5hrs. I would do the same again. Try not to worry, I know it's easy for me to say as I was quite lucky, but I think the horror stories are spread about far more than the nice ones:) I also tried pineapple, raspberry tea, a bl**dy hot curry and even a bit of action, 3 sweeps and nothing!!!! Wont' be doing any of that again! Good luck, keep us posted xx

:( i was 6 days with my first, 12 with my second, currently 11 for third..! hope it happens for you TODAY!!

PreggoEggo · 27/01/2012 09:42

mw told me yesterday lots of sex- the hormone found in semen is exactly the same as the hormone they use to induce you.

serotoninbutterfly · 27/01/2012 09:49

I went 11 days over but I won't worry you with the induction stories... Suffice to say I won't be getting induced again in a hurry! The baby will come when they are ready Grin

ShowOfHands · 27/01/2012 09:53

Does it help at all to think of a normal pregnancy as being 37-42 weeks? Sometimes psychologically it's better to think that you're still not overdue than constantly feeling up against it.

And none of the old wives tales work btw. None of them. You can have sex and eat pineapple and curry if you want to do these things but they won't induce labour. Do whatever you want. At 41 weeks pregnant you have every right. Sitting and eating cake's quite a good option ime.

cazboldy · 27/01/2012 09:55

6 days over with ds1
1 day over dd1
3wks early ds2
1 day late with ds2 (but technically was 3 am so nearly on time)
9am on the due date dd2

RillaBlythe · 27/01/2012 09:55

I went 14 days over with dd1 and went into labour spontaneously. Dd2 shocked me by arriving one day after due date

cazboldy · 27/01/2012 09:55

and sex does work ime Grin

Knittedslippers · 27/01/2012 09:58

15 days over with dd. Induced twice on day 14 and on day 15 was told that "this baby needs to be born today no matter what!". Good luck, there is still definitely time for your baby to be born naturally.

MissCoffeeNWine · 27/01/2012 10:05

17 days over, first baby, born at home, naturally without need for intervention or pain relief. MW attended, no stitches, healthy baby.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 27/01/2012 10:05

Term is 37-42 weeks. After 42 weeks you should be offered expectant management or induction. Whatever care you are offered - it is your choice to accept or decline.

Term is not 40 weeks and zero hours. At 40 weeks plus 1 hour your placenta will not explode/turn green.

Beanbagz · 27/01/2012 10:08

5 days.

Chicken curry, a glass of red wine and sex enticed DD out in the end!

3 years later i also had chicken curry & a glass of red wine the night before going into labour with my DS (he was a week early).

PotteringAlong · 27/01/2012 10:09

I was induced at 40+15

It wasn't that bad! :)

ShowOfHands · 27/01/2012 10:09

cazboldy, no you had sex and happened to go into labour Grin. I was eating rice when labour started. The rice didn't cause it.

For every woman who goes into labour after sex, millions won't. In fact most women continue to have sex throughout pregnancy. It would be banned if it even remotely caused labour. And theoretically speaking (and empirically according to one study though it also found no actual causal link), if it did work you'd be better off ingesting the semen orally.

Willabywallaby · 27/01/2012 10:11

Induced at 40+12 with DS1 at Poole, they offered me 12,13, or 14. It was ok just took all day. DS2 was an unplanned home birth.

cazboldy · 27/01/2012 10:17

maybe showofhands!

But with 4 out of my 5 it happened within 6 hours. I agree I probably would have done anyway...... but at least it passes the time, and takes your mind off waiting! Grin

ShowOfHands · 27/01/2012 10:41

As I said it's fine if you want to do it, passes the time fairly amicably, but I know too many pregnant women who do it or do the long walks and curry thing and end up exhausted, with killer spd, upset stomachs, heartburn and unhappy. And they've only done it because they think it'll help. Which in tests, it never, ever does. I went into labour with both of mine when sitting on the sofa eating. Rice first time round, roast chicken second time round. My friend's waters popped spontaneously at 3am with all four while she was sleeping. Maybe it's muscle memory. Grin

FlirtyThirty · 27/01/2012 11:04

12 days over.
Unsuccessful sweep.
Massive country walk.
Natural birth 36hrs later. (long, hideously painful...but natural)

They end is very much in sight... x

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/01/2012 11:17

Spontaneity labour 11 days over, no sweeps or anything.

FessaEst · 27/01/2012 13:22

Dd1-9 days over, 2 days after sweep that resulted in a massive show.

Dd2-4 days over (just!) Spontaneous labour 8 hours after waters going.

Both at home in water. Good luck!!

chocoroo · 27/01/2012 13:27

14 days for me. It should have only been 12 days as I was due to be induced but I'd gone into labour spontanously so they kept me in and monitored ignored me for two days before breaking my water on day 14. I had an EMCS after another 12 hours of hell.

So, positive -there's still time!

crispychicken · 27/01/2012 14:34

I'm currently 40+3 so will be watching this thread!!

Karoleann · 27/01/2012 14:36

DC1 - 14 days late (went into labour after sweep number 3) and had placental problems that I probably wouldn't have had if had been induced earlier
DC2 - planned induction at 40+7
DC3 - planned induction at 40+8

Flisspaps · 27/01/2012 14:39

Everything that ShowofHands says.

DD was born at 40+16.

Went in for induction at 40+14, was finally found a bed to have induction at 40+15 and DD was born the following day.

This time, baby will come when it's ready - not when I feel obliged to go in because DH has told work that's the date induction has been booked for.

You don't need to resign yourself to intervention of course, not accepting the offer of induction is a perfectly acceptable decision, even when you're sick of STILL being pregnant.
