Hello! Im 40+4 today, not quite at the fed up stage as this is my third, and last PG so I am savouring it! (quite difficult with 2 DD's running around making me stressed!).

Any signs? None from me, have had a bit of cramping on/off the last couple of days but thats all. Irritability for no reason but in a surprisingly good mood today and have had a good clean of the house and caught up on all my washing horrah!

Enjoy your last few days of bump-hood to anyone hanging about and hope baby is with you soon!!

Sweep is pretty unpleasant isn't it? Really looking forward to my third tomorrow, not. Actually thought something was happening last night as I had some pain just before bed that came and went a few times, but still nothing. I don't know what labour is supposed to feel like! I am covered in stretch marks. Really sore, aren't they? Come on baby. Starting to think I have imagined the whole thing - it felt more real a few weeks ago, and now doesn't feel real at all.
Good luck everyone.

Hello!

40+4 and not quite fed up yet either as I was expecting to go overdue, I did with ds after being told he'd be early. I'm more fed up of this cold than I am still being pregnant!

addicted I felt the same way with ds. Hope something starts for you soon.

Gah sweeps.................i'm not sure I want one this time. I have my 41wk appointment on wednesday and my mw said I could decide then. Had one with ds and I was nowhere near ready so it did nothing.

PreggoEggo · 23/01/2012 10:20

hello! who's still here??? 41 today and lost plug in the shower.... am hoping it means things might progress but mw told me not to get excited if i lost it (didnt lose it til i was in established labour for both dds). really hoping things will happen soon, got to happen this week i do not want to be induced.

Am in the WORST mood today and so so irritable! just dropped my eldest off at gymnastics for an hour and my 22 month old is driving me insane! (swear she knows it and is enjoying winding me up).

theonlyway- hope this sweep does the trick for you. No they are not pleasant are they. The things we go through!

lol mama at your DH having a rummage and not knowing what to look for! I wouldnt have even asked mine, think he might have had his head bitten off for even suggesting it!

good luck ladies

I'm still here, having more pains but I doubt anything will come from it. Just put dd down for a nap and am going to have a shower.

Been doing lots of last minute nesting this weekend getting the crib and bedding put together and cleaning the covers of the baby bouncer. I still need to wash the floor mat and baby gym, but I'm not sure (with 14 month dd around) it will be used. She just loves babies and doesn't know her own strength! This morning she has been putting her Dolly in the bouncer and feeding her, cuddling her and singing to her. So cute but not very gently!

Klinda · 23/01/2012 12:02

40 + 3 today and still no sign for me.

Wanted to ask about sweeps as am due to have one tmrw (managed to avoid with DS1 even though he was 6 days late and didn't need one with DS2 as only 2 days late...was so expecting this one to be on time!!!!). Anyways my question is...does it cause anything to "happen", like soreness or stuff falling out (iykwim) as I have midwife appointment right before I pick up DS1 from pre school and don't want to be dripping/cramping all the way home....or maybe I do...at least then something would be happening and I wouldn't have to endure the pity in everyones eyes as I greet them yet again at the school gates Wink.

PreggoEggo · 23/01/2012 13:09

lol addicted your LO sounds sweet! my DD is a bit older and Im terrified of her crushing the baby, she loves babies but also doesnt know her own strength!!

klinda i had a sweep yesterday- i felt fine after, it wasnt for another 3 hours that i started to feel a bit crampy and had a little bit of blood loss (but hardly noticeable). Then this morning my plug came out which i think was from the sweep. it depends how vigorous she does it, my mw was really going for it as she didnt want to do a 'half-hearted' attempt. How kind. You could always pack some pantyliners to wear after just in case?

im getting paranoid as i think my temporary filling might be getting ready to fall out, sooooo not what i need. My stupid phobia of the dentist and teeth in general, i only had it done 3 weeks ago!! And it cost a bloody fortune! waiting for the dentist to ring me back and hopefully put my mind at ease. Such bad timing with baby due any day.

40+6 today. Been to the gym again, and trying reflexology this afternoon...

PreggoEggo · 24/01/2012 16:54

Oh good luck with the reflexology, my friend is a reflexologist and she has told me where to apply the pressure points! Going to try that tonight i think!

Hows everyone else doing?? I woke up so fed up this morning, Im not sleeping at all at the moment. zzzzzzzzzz

mamarara · 24/01/2012 17:50

Still here. The looks of surprise/pity at nursery when dropping dd off today were quite amusing.

Any joy from the reflexology or sweeps?
Where are your baby evicting pressure points then preggo?

PreggoEggo · 24/01/2012 18:28

Haha mama every day at the preschool drop off i get, oh still no baby then? My friend dropped my DD off yesterday who then told everyone I had had the baby, and her little friend piped up it was a girl! My friend had to squash these rumours!
Your uterus reflex point is on the inside of both your feet, it should feel a bit of a dip directly in the middle between your ankle bone and the very bottom of your heel. I've been pushing away!! Had this point pushed when i was trying to get PG so know how its supposed to feel when pressed, feels a bit uncomfy!

OP posts:
owl13 · 24/01/2012 21:15

Reflexologist refused to treat me, on the basis that I'm pregnant. Er, that was the whole point of making the appointment....

PreggoEggo · 25/01/2012 03:22

40+8 today with first baby, sweep yesterday afternoon - 1cm dilated, cervix 'average', still 2cm long and posterior, Bishop's score 5. Thought cervix would still be like Fort Knox so got all excited. Baby very active and convinced myself "tonight's the night", ordered huge pizza in anticipation of last meal :D Followed by highly unromantic cervix softening session sex on advice of midwife where we only just managed it owing to laughing so much at the ridiculousness of it all!

Ho hum, all quietened down now and the usual wakening at 2am, left bed for sofa so as not to work DP...lurking on MN again with the other overdue ladies :) Induction booked for Sunday, going to try that ankle pressure point now!

clarey2311 · 25/01/2012 03:50

I meant wake DP, durrr. Yawn!

Klinda · 25/01/2012 13:56

Hello everyone!
I'm still here...40+5 now. Had a sweep yesterday and midwife said it looked promising although cervix still a bit thick. Apparently already 2cm buts that cos already had kids, but I like the idea of having a head start! Sweep actually not that bad but don't think it has really had any effect, am feeling resolutely not labourish....
Man I am so bored. At least both kids are actually having a nap today so I can sit and stuff my face for a bit. Think I shall heft them out to the park later in the hope that it'll bring on labour. If this baby doesn't come out by tomorrow then they will become the longest cooked of my three....

PreggoEggo · 25/01/2012 16:45

hi clarey!! hope the sweep will work! I think tonight Im going to try the sex thing, its the one thing we havent tried though I dont know how successful it will be as its all rather swollen down below! (sorry tmi!).

midwife coming tomorrow to do sweep number 2, she has said if they dont work within 24-48 hours then they wont. Fab.

Klinda when the mw told me i was 2-3cm already i was like woohoo! only 7 to go ha ha! she said dont get excited about it as you never fully close up after first baby. Thanks for bursting my bubble! At least we can tell ourselves we've made a start! Enjoy the quiet while it lasts- one of mine is asleep the other is watching a movie. Bliss.

tonight has GOT to be the night, induction booked for sat (which i am now thinking i will refuse). Been for 2 walks today already, ate some spicy food last night, going out tonight (DH said if we plan something labour will surely happen ha ha!). plus tomorrow is the actual due date me and DH calculated when we first conceived, so here's hoping.

Now paranoid my waters will break or ill go into intense labour while at dinner tonight. eek! That would be a memorable birthday dinner wouldnt it?!

Booked in with a maternity reflexologist for tomorrow now. Preggo, d'you mind my asking why you're thinking of refusing the induction? I don't know much about it and need to get clued up in case my booked induction day comes around...

frankietwospots · 25/01/2012 17:29

Hi ladies,

I'm finally re-surfacing on Mumsnet after ending up 40+15 over Christmas with 4 failed sweeps and 2 failed inductions (Propess) behind me. I ended up with a CS as it was the only option left and have a beautiful little boy, James, who is 4 weeks today! It is the most bizarre thing to have given birth but not to have experienced any of the feelings associated with birth e.g. I didn't have one single contraction. My message to you ladies is you are quite right to refuse an induction if you don't want it and there is no medical reason for it. It was clear to me that my body wasn't ready to give birth (hence no contractions at all) but I contravened hospital policy by being more than 14 days overdue so they stuck all sorts in me to no avail. When they tried a second dose of Propess, I asked what the point was and the MW said 'I don't know really'. My secret weapon was to ask what my Bishop's Score was (I've written about this elsewhere on Mumsnet). It's basically a way of assessing how likely you are to succeed with induction based on factors such as consistency of the cervix, position etc.. My 'best' score was 3 and you have to be between 6 and 10 to be in with a good chance of success. Don't get me wrong, a CS was not an ideal outcome by any means, but after 3 days in hospital feeling like I was on some kind of induction production line, at least it gave me a plan for finally getting to meet my baby. Good luck with trying more natural induction methods - I tried sniffing clary sage (made me feel sick!), eating a curry, sex, lots of raspberry leaf tea, bouncing on a fit ball, endless walking, reflexology, you name it! In the end, I was told I have a stubborn uterus. Nice!

mamarara · 25/01/2012 21:16

How are you all today? Any babies?

Thanks for the positive story frankie - saw mw today (40+5) and she was all about the induction. So it's good to hear about the bishops score etc.

I did lol at your reflexology mare owl. Hope you have better luck tomorrow!

I've tried most things and have just resorted to shouting at my belly. 'now come on son, let's get cracking..rararar' that should work, right?

k4mi · 25/01/2012 22:21

Frankie, thanks for your message.

I am 41+1 today and am being told by the hospital i really should be booking in for induction...this is first baby and we have planned a homebirth.

All is fine with baby as we had a scan yesterday. I have had 2 failed attempts at a sweep, a few mild contractions and not much else.

Today i met with the consultant who tried her very best to book me in for induction on Friday. I pushed it until next Tues (when i am 42wks) but also told her i may well cancel.

At the end i asked her what the point of inducing all these women is that have no signs of labouring naturally yet as they all end up with C secs? I know 6 women alone who have ended up this way this month after days of attempted induction. I am determined not to go through all of that and will use your Bishops Score test to fight my case!

If i'm already heading towards labour naturally i would consider the Propess post 42wks but if i'm not and my score is too low i plan to decline and tell them i will only consider EMCS and see how they respond.

Anyone tried this before? Personally i think a C Sec birth is less traumatic for baby than a long time being induced and ending up with C Sec anyway. I was induced (as in for my mum) and she had a fit shortly after and couldn't be with me right away. There was no reason for me to be induced and she has always told me she felt her body just wan't ready but was pushed into it because her first baby was two weeks late and they were determined not to let her go over with me...

k4mi · 25/01/2012 22:24

PS i have tried reflexology, pineapple, homeopathy, curry, sex (admittedly just the once), finding my own cervix and trying to sweep it lol, bouncy ball, swimming, walking, running up and down stairs, clary sage oil....maybe just maybe the baby isn't ready yet eh?!

PS love the haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com/ link!

PreggoEggo · 26/01/2012 06:41

40+10 today and really thought i'd have had the baby by now though. Thanks frankie for sharing story- i totally agree that our bodies will be ready when they are ready. I really dont want to have the induction, owl selfishly because i want to have a home birth, this is my third and last pregnancy. My other babies were late and I know my body can do it so I dont see why i should be forced into what should be a natural process. Im in milton keynes and they seem to eager to get you booked in and out the other end in super time. I dont see the rush?

Having a sweep this morning so will talk to mw about moving the induction (fear ill have a fight on my hands). and to point out that originally we calculated today as our due date (so not actually late??). I obviously dont want the baby to come to any harm at all, and am worried about how long he/she is cooking but if today IS my 'real' due date, and my other babies were late (last one 12 days) what if this one would 'naturally' be another 12 days and Id still be within the original 42 week gestation. But i know there is no way in hell theyll let me go over another 10 days or so, and I suppose i dont really want to wait that long. Sigh. Ive been fretting about it all night.

Just totally scorched my porridge :( oh cry cry cry come on baby!!!

mamarara · 26/01/2012 08:04

Morning.
Good luck today preggo - hope the sweep works for you!
Any babies this morning?
I am well hacked off today - cant sleep, spd, baby seems to be grinding it's head against my bladder/bowels, piles of piles, general paranoia that the longer it's in there the more likely something is to go wrong, not to mention waking up every morning and trying to psyche myself up for labour. Rar. Ok feel better, stopping the whining.
Hope you are all feeling positive and generally birthy.

k4mi · 26/01/2012 10:16

Yes i am hacked off today too...! Just had enough. I find i fluctuate between feeling ok/positive and thinking my body will do it when ready / baby is happy to being furious with the whole situation, lack of control, ability to encourage things on or stop everyone poking their noses in.

My mother decided yesterday to tell me some story of a lady who went overdue only to have a child with mild brain damage (this is 30 yrs ago before they could scan fluid levels). She was saying 'it's a good job they can keep an eye on you nowadays' but why on earth did she tell me this?!! I have been up half the night stressing about it.

Does anyone have any facts and figures about birth post 42 weeks? My midwife is coming soon and although she is lovely/will let me go as long as i want to i know we have to discuss induction again. I would really like to be armed with some facts for when i next have to see the obstetrician. The Bishops score thing is fab as i have concluded that if by next Tuesday (42wks) my score is still low i will ask for c sec over induction. I cannot see how they can not offer you this in that by law we can now request a c sec and if your body is clearly showing no signs of labouring naturally then induction is highly likely to end in c sec anyway.

Midwife will attempt a sweep again today but i am sure nothing has changed, if anything i am having loads less twinges than last week although baby is still moving plenty.

Totally bored of it all now.

Good luck with your sweep Preggo, i really hope it works for you as also know how you feel about wanting to stay home and do things the way we have planned for the last 9 months!!

Klinda · 26/01/2012 13:27

Howdy,
This thread is really keeping me going! Makes me feel better that it is not just my womb that is not playing ball
I have to say I am feeling nothing....just a squashed bladder and a big blob of grumpiness. Feel bad for my children cos finding it hard to engage with anything as so preoccupied.
Having another sweep tomorrow. I think having read about what y'all think I agree that I don;t want to be induced...at least not before I go 14 days over as body has happily laboured before and both bubbas were a bit late. I think it is just fear about health of baby that would make me be induced.
I will defo google this bishop score thing, sounds useful info to have.
Good luck everyone, lets hope the weekend brings a plethora of babies!
