How sore is childbirth? If being compared to a very very bad period?

I get the worst periods! to the point that 2 times ive been taken to the hospital because im screaming in pain, I cant take it, however my doctor says I have a high pain threshold, I had my appendix removed and refused pain killers after.

so, you girls out there that know what its like to be in bed 3 days a month due to extreme period pains, how did birth compare to that for you?

I really want a natural birth in water without pain relief... how bad can it be???

thanks guys, ps i love mums net :)

Contractions = The most excruciating pain I've ever experienced. But I only had two paracetomol as it was a home birth. And no midwife/birth partner during labour (dh was told to 'get some rest' before I went in to labour proper - by the time he got up and midwives got back, I was pushing.) Pushing doesn't hurt so much, but for me, contractions were like great big electric shocks. Awful. Would happily do it again though, it was amazing to feel my body opening up to let this new baby out.

It's an unanswerable question. Every woman is different, every birth is different, every woman's perception of pain is different. All totally subjective.

I scared myself watching OBEM but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. I managed a 6lb 5oz baby on just gas and air but she was in a good position thanks to antenatal yoga and sitting on a ball (baby got the hint eventually - she was breech till 36+4!).

It's all worth it :)

At least we don't have to give birth through our clitorises, which is what the poor hyenas have to do!!!!!

I agree with sports, your labour will be different than ours. Mine was painful but I managed and it was very quick. I'm actually looking forward to being in labour again, but the thought of the first poo afterwards fills me with dread. That was more painful IMO. I had to do it in the bath in the end ( has anyone seen my dignity anywhere?)
