Please tell all! I didn't get any with no. 1, quite painful for a couple of days with no. 2 - what shall I expect with no. 3, due in 7 weeks time? Do I need to stock up on extra strong painkillers?

I think they are supposed to be stronger with each baby?? Dont know if ive remembered that right though

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 11/01/2006 17:11

i didnt get any with number 1 and thought i was dying with number 2, so GOOD LUCK.... get those pain killers in!!

fennel · 11/01/2006 17:11

i had them badly with dd2 and stocked up with industrial strength painkillers for dd3 - so if they were worse, i didn't feel them as badly. suggest you stock up too, it took me hours with dd2 for the hospital to provide any painkillers.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 11/01/2006 17:13

My afterpains with ds2 made me cry - no one told me that they got stronger and i thought there was something wrong

serenity · 11/01/2006 17:14

I was very shocked with No3 to get pains that were just as bad as the damn labour! Paracetamol and hot water bottles did the trick, and it was only for the first week so try not to worry too much.

CarolinaMoon · 11/01/2006 17:15

jeez... I thought they were bad enough with no.1. It was compounded by a weird flash-back type of feeling to though, so maybe it was more emotional than physical iyswim.

I haven't even got on to no.2 yet, so no advice, sorry!

RosiePosie · 11/01/2006 17:16

Just as I feared, lol! Can anyone recommend me painkillers? Is ibrobrufen better than paracetamol?

cathyspam · 11/01/2006 17:19

my afterpains with ds2 were horrible - i thought i was contracting because i had left over placenta or something - eurgh! Incidentally I didn't have but was amazed at how sore they were!

Passionflower · 11/01/2006 17:19

I got extra strength prescription ones from my GP for afterpains with DD3.

cathyspam · 11/01/2006 17:19

i think co-codamol are supposed to be best.

Passionflower · 11/01/2006 17:22

Cathyspam - those are the ones!

pucca · 11/01/2006 17:23

Oh god are they really bad?

Pg with no 2 atm.

Passionflower · 11/01/2006 17:24

Sorry, they are.

polly28 · 11/01/2006 17:27

Funny I was chatting with a friend today and we were discussing this woman in the town who has 13 ( yes 13!!!) children.

well apparently the deliveries are a piece of piss but the delivering of the placenta is what causes her more pain.weird.

Not much help,but interesting

RosiePosie · 11/01/2006 17:29

I "know" someone who has 11 children ( don't know her, just online ) and she bought a canister of G&A to cope with the afterpains after the last one.

I had both my children without any means of pain relief whatsoever, and never took anything for afterpains after the 1st, but after giving birth to DD, I took the Vicodin they offered me as fast as I could tear it out of their hands because they hurt so much.

pucca · 11/01/2006 17:34
Shock
Clary · 11/01/2006 17:44

Mine got much worse with each baby too.
I remember saying to dh as I fed ds2 on the ward that it was worse than labour (!).
Only lasted for a day or so tho, thank goodness.

Miaou · 11/01/2006 17:47

Hardly any when I had dd1.
Pretty bad when I had dd2.
Never got them with ds!!!

However I gave birth to ds without pain relief so maybe my endorphin levels were still very high? (or maybe I'm talking rubbish as usual )

SleepyJess · 11/01/2006 17:51

I got them worst after my third.. but then he was nine pounder. TBH I found that uncomfortable at worst when compared to labour.. and I am a real wimp with pain.

mZebra · 11/01/2006 18:30

I was the same with babies 1 & 2 RosiePosie... and afterpains with baby3 were pretty horrendous (sorry!).

4blue1pink · 11/01/2006 18:37

I had loads with them all but last time was prescribed co - codomal before birth and took it religiously for first 48 hours or so - was fantatstic ...must get my prescription in!

Enid · 11/01/2006 18:38

oh god I didnt have any with either of mine

don't want them with this next one

tallulah · 11/01/2006 18:45

Mine got worse with each baby. But then the first one was 6lb 10oz and the last (fourth) was 8lb 7oz- they got progressively bigger

RosiePosie · 11/01/2006 18:48

Can I buy co-codomal over the counter?
