My bag looked like a tequila Sunrise - 20 parts urine, 5 parts blood.
Cheers

ewwww. please let me never need a ceasarian!

couldnt care less about a bit of poo in the water, so long as someone fishes it out for me quick like fast and never mentions it again think thats prob what happened last 2 times, and will prob happen again this time too.

funny, but i tend to get so caught up in the giving birth thing that that is all i am paying much attention to anyway!

i ate a load of clementines two days before dd came, spent the day before emptying my bowels and didn't go again until about 3 days afterwards.

petunia · 10/01/2006 17:11

With DD1, had an epidural so not sure.
With DD2, I farted while pushing. Then apologised to the 2 midwives!

geekgrrl · 10/01/2006 17:19

I managed to avoid it with dd1 - she was induced over 3 days and being in strange places always makes my bowels stop it seems - no poos until I was home again thankfully.

Second time round it happened but I was alone (too fast for anyone to get there) and I actually cleaned myself up and hid the messy towels whilst delivering the baby! Superwoman or obsessed? You decide!

Third time round I kept checking in complete paranoia but nothing happened - TBH I was more worried about the pooing than anything else, and with my second labour was (insanely) relieved that the midwife hadn't yet arrived because of the pooing. Nuts, I know.

Trophywife · 10/01/2006 17:24

the first thing i knew about having done a poo whilst pushing ds out was when my dh said " did you have to sh*t in-front of me" my reply was "what ? OMG i didnt?" i then made a really big point of saying sorry to the midwife who was really cool about it. as for my highly embrassed (sp?)

serenity · 10/01/2006 17:26

This was one of my greatest fears - to the extent that when I was in labour with DS2 and felt the urge to go I struggled against it for a good 10 minutes before telling my mum. Unfortunately what I had forgotten was that sometimes that feeling is the same when the baby starts to come out. DS2 hit the bed before the midwives could get back into the delivery room. No poo though

I got away with it with all three, luckily for me, probably because they came out with only a couple of pushes. However it meant that everything just came out afterwards, within an hour or so iirc!

You can still end up with a catheter without a C-Section!

Trophywife, really at your dh too!

Aloha · 10/01/2006 17:51

Stomach muscles still intact (they aren't cut you know!) and no trouble pooing normally at all.

mears · 10/01/2006 17:55

Nothing you can do about it really but not worry. As a midwife I discretely get rid of any poo which is a natural production. You could have an enema if you knew you had not been to the loo for a few days. You get tiny little ones now. The alternative is suppositories.

It really isn't anything to feel ashamed about - it's nature

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2006 17:57

I had a catheter (without a c-section) and they kindly omitted to change the bag, so that when I got up in the morning there was about a litre of wee all over the floor round my bed. The nurse who came to clean it up was really arsey about it, as well.

Meanoldmummy · 10/01/2006 17:58

same thing happened to me, the b*ards...I was so humiliated!

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2006 18:12

I didn't care too much at the time but was a bit gobsmacked by the grumpy nurse - what was I meant to do, not wee so much??

Thell · 10/01/2006 18:29

I'm expecting my first in 7 weeks - I must say that pooing during labour is the least of my worries at the moment!
I used to suffer with horrendous period pains (before some lovely hormones sorted me out) - and they used to make me poo, so hopefully I will do my pooing before I get to the pushing!

at your catheter bags! You would have been well within your rights at that point to kick that grumpy nurse in the face!

bobbybobbobbingalong · 11/01/2006 03:55

I asked the midwife and dh not to tell me if I pooed in the water, and if I noticed not to mention it at all ever. Under any circumstances.

It does mean that I will never know though...

RosiePosie · 12/01/2006 11:48

It's normal to have a cathetar if you just have an epidural isn't it? I know I got pretty pee'd off with the midwives periodically picking the bag up, inspecting the colour of my wee and saying "now dear, you need to try and drink more fluids". And I remember one midwife tutting loudly at me after I'd stood up for the first time in over 12 hours because of epidural and a niagra falls of blood gushed all over the floor - like I had ANY control over that either! I found the whole hospital experience pretty humiliating - that's why I've opted for homebirths since.

tonton · 12/01/2006 12:28

Thell - re period pains and poo - I hadn't thought of thaT! i have appalling period pains (take loads of drugs for them) and yes, used to poo a lot. I had an em cs last time and never got to pooing stage. My mother always said that my period pains could indicate very strong contractions and she was proved right last time. Help!

XmasPud · 12/01/2006 12:38

I didn?t with DD1 and ended up with terrible constipation afterwards as my bowels seemed to shut down for the week after birth.
I pooed right through my labour with DD2 at home. Quite embarrassing as I sat there on the throne with two midwives standing watching me, discussing my bowel movements as if they were discussing a shopping trip!! Does nothing for your sense of dignity does it?!
Personally, I wouldn?t try to prevent it or worry about not pushing for fear of pooing instead. Better out than in
