How many of you waxed pre birth?

And to what extent? Just curious, having read a few people recently say they are waxed so now feel ready to give birth. Have never waxed that area before as tried it once and should probably have gone to a professional. Not pleasant.

So do people go for a general tidy up, or everything off?

I am 36 weeks and keeping 'down there' shaved. Could never, ever get waxed! But I like the feeling of being clean shaven and fresh. I just use a hand held mirror as I can't see over my bump now!

squinker45 · 19/09/2011 16:42

would get a razor to go round all the, ahem, nooks and crannys as it were... maybe mine is unthinkably complex.... have shaved bits and waxed bits in the past but the regrowth was a nightmare, especially with the waxing. No feeling of fresh or hygenic just itchy and painful ime. How do stand to do the whole thing? shudders
Maybe it's just me

ToffeePenny · 19/09/2011 17:04

Full Brazilian. I was booked for a CS and they said they'd make the incision quite low so they'd shave. Really didn't fancy a scar with itchy regrowth at the same time. Think the area must have been shocked by the CS though as it didn't regrow for 7 months!

loverocky · 19/09/2011 17:19

i shaved before, thought it would be more pleasant for bubba lol but i ended up having a c section and you need to have shaved your bikini line or they do it for you, so i was glad i had already done mine i was prepared then :D

allhailtheaubergine · 19/09/2011 17:54

Roar @ the idea of pubic hair making the journey through your vagina mildly unpleasant for a baby.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 19/09/2011 18:40

I roared too, aubs!

love you do know now that your newborn wouldn't have given a stuff about the fuzziness (or otherwise) of your fanjo, don't you? Please tell me it was late-pregnancy befuddlement that led you to believe that he'd prefer his mother to have had a Brazilian! Grin

LoveInAColdClimate · 19/09/2011 19:57

Am giggling at the baby being concerned by the presence of pubes in the midst of birth. I have no intention of allowing a waxer anywhere near my lady garden either now or closer to the birth.

MangoMonster · 19/09/2011 20:00

I had a Brazilian and it really hurt whilst pregnant but I also had stitches so I think it helped.

Scheherezade · 19/09/2011 20:13

squinker - as long as the razor has a decent conditioning strip and you use lots of shave foam.moisturising shower gel I never have a problem.

squinker45 · 19/09/2011 22:08

Thanks for that - not sure I will start now though as I can barely reach it. Something to try once in your life maybe.... I might come back a converted baldynomuff in 6 months!?

ChrissasMissis · 20/09/2011 07:00

Noooo way! The thought of re-growth, whilst feeling "sensitive" after the birth put me RIGHT off!

Lala29 · 21/09/2011 11:52

Had my wax (not everything, just a tidy up) yesterday (38 +4), also had manicure, fake tan, eyelash curl and tint. So now feel fully ready for the post-birth photos. Don't really see what's wrong with keeping up some standards. I have always waxed and see no point in stopping now. I feel cleaner and tidier that way - no difference to me to getting rid of leg and underarm hair. DH did laugh at the rest of the stuff, but hey, the post-birth photos will be posted all over Facebook, to all friends and relatives and be looked at forever. So see no reason why I can't look my best in them!

Tamashii · 21/09/2011 15:29

Slightly off topic but I just keep getting "Hollyyyy-woooooooood!" in my head every time I read the word...

Lala29 I know lots of women who have had a relaxing makeover session before the birth as a little treat so you can actually try to feel as good as you can after going through labour and having to have your photo taken and plastered all over Twitter/Facebook etc for everyone to see. My little cousin actually posted a comment on my post birth photo with brand new LO saying "Shame you ran out of fake tan when you got to your lower legs then...." :o WHO would be LOOKING at that?!? Just shows you though...

Tamashii · 21/09/2011 15:32

Just in case you're worrying it's a clip from Mannequin!!!! Not some dodgy waxed muff related clip!!!

squinker45 · 21/09/2011 19:50

There's a lot of talk of feeling 'cleaner' when hair-free. Well I do have a streak of clean freak, but hair isn't actually dirty, is it? Mine gets a twice-daily showering anyway, more than the hair on my head in fact. Maybe ladies should shave all that off too and wear a wig like in the Elizabethan era....

mathanxiety · 21/09/2011 20:08

The point of hair is to act as a conduit for oils, sweat, etc., away from the skin. This is the purpose of eyebrows and pubic hair alike. You are more likely to leave bacteria festering on your skin and making their way into your various orifices if there isn't hair there to get washed off on.

mathanxiety · 21/09/2011 20:11

A friend who is a L&D nurse says she doesn't know why anyone thinks they look any better or worse than anyone else waxed. It's all very messy and gory down there no matter what you get done.

squinker45 · 21/09/2011 20:11

Oh that's good to know, there is another point to having it then it's not just for protection of sensitive bits as i thought

squinker45 · 21/09/2011 20:12

Also, the vagina / labia etc is fairly funny looking when you get down to it, hairy or not

SybilBeddows · 21/09/2011 20:16

wouldn't have crossed my mind to shave or wax or anything. Do whatever you like best. No-one is going to be judging.

MurunBuchstansangur · 21/09/2011 20:17

Removing hair I couldn't see was the last thing I was thinking about.

chocolatchaud · 21/09/2011 20:22

I had my eyebrows waxed in the early stages of labour - does that count?

Ah, I see, the wrong sort of waxing..........

Boobz · 22/09/2011 18:17

Me! I had a brazillian at 39+5, both times. Both babies born within 2 or 3 days after. I have been waxing for 14 years so the regrowth is minimal and not at all itchy or ingrown, so it's all very easy. Feels cleaner, looks nicer (in MY and MY DH's opinion, not the majority of yours I know, but then I do it for me and my DH so that's alright then) and couldn't give a monkey's what the MW thought - I just knew it was going to be sore down there and didn't want to have to wax for as long as possible after the baby was born (I have so little regrowth now I can usually leave it 8 weeks between waxes).

Each to their own!

loverocky · 22/09/2011 19:38

i do know that the baby would give a toss that if there was hair or not, but the fact of if he came out of there and there was hair not nice lol
but had section lukily they didnt have to shave my bikini line XD
also i am shaving this time around aswell just the fact that if i do naturally this time well its cleaner without the hair there when your bleeding, much easier to clean tmi lol
