How many of you waxed pre birth?

And to what extent? Just curious, having read a few people recently say they are waxed so now feel ready to give birth. Have never waxed that area before as tried it once and should probably have gone to a professional. Not pleasant.

So do people go for a general tidy up, or everything off?

Lord no. In fact if anything I let it grow longer than I would normally - due to some strange idea that I'd be less embarrassed if I had extra coverage Blush

diggingintheribs · 15/09/2011 20:21

a couple of years my doctor friend was doing her rotation in the labour ward. this was just after i'd had ds.

she was very perplexed as to why so many women were coming in to give birth with no hair at all. she couldn't see why anyone would think the medical staff care

i had heard that stitches and hair could be a painful combination so spent some of my early contractions shaving. With DD I couldn't care less!

nightowlmostly · 18/09/2011 05:06

Here we go, didn't take long for someone meditrina to insinuate that having it all waxed off is in some way an attempt to appear 'prepubescent'. I have a hollywood for various reasons, one of the main ones being my sex life actually! It is much more sensitive when having sex and adds a new dimension to the proceedings! Blush

I get quite offended when people (only on MN have I come across this tbh) imply that my DH must be some sort of pervert or something for liking it that way, why can't people just accept that other people like to look after their ladygardens differently to them? Jeez.

As for the thread topic, I was wondering whether to keep on with my waxing routine actually, was worrying if the midwives would judge me for having it done like that, so I'm glad to see it being discussed! I might want to stop anyway later on, will play it by ear.

nooka · 18/09/2011 05:12

I trimmed the top inch or so of my pubic hair when I had dd because I had an emergency section with ds and one of the registrars dry shaved that area before the op and I found it a bit humiliating, so I thought I'd better be prepared second time around.

mathanxiety · 18/09/2011 05:18

I have to say I agree with Meditrina.

It was considered a huge step forward in the treatment of women during labour when routine shaving was ended as part of the hospital admission process.

spiderslegs · 18/09/2011 05:18

Really, my DH was convinced DS has a lush head of dark hair when he was emerging - unitl he actually popped out. Bald.

Couldn't give a rat's wha anyone else does, trim, shave, clip, wax, as you will.

Really - who gives a hairy chuff?

spiderslegs · 18/09/2011 05:19

what

spiderslegs · 18/09/2011 05:20

You may now realise where my name comes from......

spiderslegs · 18/09/2011 05:22

Although - I have a small problem with the clipping of women's pubic hair.

allhailtheaubergine · 18/09/2011 05:36

Oh good lord no.

I think my frame of mine was more "I am powerful life-creating woman" than "terribly sorry I have pubes".

spiderslegs · 18/09/2011 05:41

Quite - Allhailthe.

Celebrate the muff.

Catslikehats · 18/09/2011 06:16

Agree with nightowelmostly that depilation of whatever variety has nothing to do with liking a prepubescent look. I also take offence at the implication that my DH must be some sort of paedo or the other well worn line that I have been brain washed by porn.

The reasons I have a hollywood are actually much much more simple: Sex is A mazing, during my period I feel cleaner and I spend a lot of time in a bikini and it's easier not having to worry about stray hairs poking out.

Back to the OP I have a regular Hollywood so kept that up whilst pregnant.

DontTellAnyonebut · 18/09/2011 08:51

I lazered mine and miss my muff!

cluckypoo · 18/09/2011 17:40

I have a waxed booked at 38 1/2 weeks.

I caught sight of my vag in the mirror recently and was amazed at the 70s style bush! I'm usually very tidy down there but its been a case of out of sight out of mind for the last few months!

EggyAllenPoe · 18/09/2011 17:46

can you cope with post-wax growback itching in late pregnancy?

There is no way i would shave/wax for this. Midwife is, after all, going to examine my vagina when it is in a post-birthing condition. hair would be least of her problems.

happyland · 18/09/2011 17:47

I will be. I do anyway and I prefer to be hairless. Plus the blood and stitches I had last time were awful and if it happens again it'll be easier to keep clean.

RitaMorgan · 18/09/2011 17:53

Well of course I waxed - otherwise the medical staff might not have wanted to have sex with me.

nightowlmostly · 18/09/2011 19:14

There isn't any itching with regrowth after waxing, shaving is the killer as far as that goes and there's no way I'll ever make that mistake again!

mathanxiety · 18/09/2011 19:15

DontTellAnyonebut -- I read lazered as layered and thought 'how fancy' (visions of bob stylee)...

piprabbit · 18/09/2011 19:17

I don't think any HCP has turned to another and said - "X is going to be a fantastic mum, not a pubic hair in sight".

I had my bikini line done, not specially for the 'occasion' but because I always have it done every 5/6 weeks so I can go swimming.
My bump was too huge to actually see my pubes by the end anyway. I only discovered I had one of those brown lines when I used a mirror to have a look.

squinker45 · 18/09/2011 22:44

Aw what a shame, some pro-baldies have arrived. oh well you gotta have a balanced argument or it would be a very dull world...

chinateacup · 19/09/2011 14:29

Haha baldie here I had a Hollywood at 39 weeks. Just felt more hygienic. Horses for courses of course - I was rather hirsute when ds1 arrived and wanted to know this time ( planned water birth) whether it was his head I was feeling or just my lady garden Blush

squinker45 · 19/09/2011 14:59

spose its the equivalent of digging it up and laying a patio - low maintenence ladygarden?
