Hi! I'm new here. I'm pregnant with my first baby and I've been thinking about the birth. A LOT.
I worried about the most silly thing. I am hairy down there Blush (sorry) and particularly in my ummm, bum. I will be waxing/shaving my pubic hair around the due date but I don't know what to do about the hair in my bum! It will look so weird to be clean around the vagina but have hair in my bum:(
I'm going to have a CS but they will still need to check down there and administer pain relief via suppositories. In case I go into labor early, they might need to check for dilation. Then there is the post natal check up.
I know the hair should be the least of my worries but somehow it embarrasses me so much! I can't stop thinking about it.
I'm sorry if I have disgusted anyone. If anybody else is a gorilla like me, please tell me what you did about this.
And btw, I'm not joking. This is a genuine post.It may sound strange but it is something that is making me so stressed out!

give the surgeon a venus and ask him to tidy up after, if you think you'll all be bored Grin

and you've obviously not a clue what the mn version of TMI actually is... as someone else said, go and laugh your @rse off at classics (after pelvic floor exercises, obv) Wink
Good luck :)

Isnt there a classics thread about someone who tried to wax her fanjo, but got the strip, tried to soften it in the bath but then got stuck to the tub? or was I just dreaming Grin

JasmineDeMilo · 04/08/2011 02:06

"give the surgeon a venus and ask him to tidy up after, if you think you'll all be bored"

haha...a lot of women get piles at the end....trust me, hair is nothing if you've a giant plum sticking out of your bum!

They really have seen it all....i'm super hairy and also my labia tore on last baby so in two pieces on one side!! so im a big ol mess, but just gonna trim before going in. Trust me when ur recovering from childbirth, esp if you had stitches...you really don't want to deal with ingrown hairs or the itchiness of hair growing back!

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 04/08/2011 03:53

I couldn't even cope with my eye brows being done when pg last time so didi even try anywhere else Shock

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 04/08/2011 03:54

Just think if you started and then couldn't carry on, you'd be lopsided.

PoppysMom · 04/08/2011 04:37

Yep, DH annoying you is perfectly normal during pregnancy. Mine annoys me beyond belief sometimes Angry

I am 24+1 and I can already not reach anymore (and I don't think my bump is big..?), so DH is trimming my lady garden for me. He refuses to wax, as he is concerned he will hurt me (which he probably would) :(

PoppysMom · 04/08/2011 04:41

Oh and can someone point me to the classics thread/section?

i worried about this at first and now (38 weeks) i could't care less plus there is nothing i can do about it i haven't seen anything below my bump for about 3 months now, i think it would be harder to try and and explain to the midwife how i cut myself to ribbons trying to shave. lol

good luck

eurochick · 04/08/2011 11:40

BTW, if it's any comfort, women can (and do) grow hair in all the same places as men apart from their ears (we don't have the gene for that, apparently). So a hairy crack is as normal on a woman as it is on a man.

JasmineDeMilo · 04/08/2011 21:10

Thanks QTPie, I thought one would get wrapped up in the moment only with a VB.

and eurochick It is such a relief to know that. I genuinely thought I was a freak Blush
PoppysMom, so its not just my DH ;)

Hi. I'm a midwife. I've seen thousands of bums. 100% of women have hair in and around their bums, unless they wax it off. One. Hundred. Percent. It is normal.

JasmineDeMilo · 04/08/2011 21:47

HarderToKidnap I am so glad i posted here! I have obsessed over this since my teens Blush.
May I ask another question though? How many women actually wax it off? If most don't, I don't have to do it either then, you see.
I can't really imagine going to a salon to have this done.Secondly, I think my pregnancy gas has ruined my sex life enough! I don't want to ask DH to wax my bum crack Grin

PrettyCandles · 04/08/2011 22:27

Why on earth would I wax my bum crack? It's my bum crack, I choose who gets to see it. If anything it's a priviledge to see my bum crack - a very rare event! Anyone who sees my bum crack should be so honoured that they wouldn't dare care whether or not it was hairy.

To be realistic, anyone who sees my bum crack would be so busy that they wouldn't care in the least whether or not it was hairy.

You are supposed to have hair there. It is there for a reason.

It helps to reduce friction (when you walk for example) particularly as it can get rather sweaty around there! That could leave you VERY sore!

You'd be better off leaving it alone rather than risking a sweat rash, a shaving rash (if you're really brave) or ingrowing hairs as well as the drive-you-mad itching that you might well get when it starts to grow back!

You won't notice when they're checking your undercarriage or putting any suppositories in place so you won't get to be embarrassed - by then you'll be too interested in your lovely new baby to give a flying fig about what's going on anywhere else!

JasmineDeMilo · 04/08/2011 22:39

Cleverything Oh no. I suppose we all do things while giving birth which we do regret later ;)
I'm going to start a new thread about piles. The idea is nauseating me :(
I don't want piles. I already have to look like a whale, be cut up, be in a lot of pain, suffer through morning sickness all day sickness, and bear horrible back pain. I'm gassy, depressed and unable to focus on the job I love. My sex life is non existent.
I do not want piles now.

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 04/08/2011 22:41

If you're having a CS then you have a better chance of not getting piles than those who have a VB.

JasmineDeMilo · 04/08/2011 22:43

"If you're having a CS then you have a better chance of not getting piles than those who have a VB."
Really? I thought they were caused by pregnancy, not birth. Thats good news though:)

When I was in labour, I weed on the bed just because I was too tired to get up and go to the toilet. To be fair, I was still gushing amniotic fluid at that point so noone noticed. I am a bit ashamed now, but at the time I didn't give a shit. I certainly gave no thought whatsoever to my hairy bits, who saw them, or whether or not they formed any opinions about them (I am guessing not as this is a daily thing for them).

Flisspaps · 04/08/2011 22:48

Pregnancy can cause piles, but I thought that the act of pushing hugely increased the likelihood of piles because of the straining, am happy to be proven wrong though.

JasmineDeMilo · 04/08/2011 22:51

Flisspaps
Actually, that makes perfect sense. The pushing would make them a lot worse and a lot harder to treat.
