Vik Khullar - pelvic floor reconstruction

Hi Everyone,
I need to have pelvic floor reconstructive surgery and I was wondering if anyone had had this, or a similar, type of surgery by Vik Khullar. I really like him and find him very easy to talk to, but I want to reassure myself that he is the best surgeon for the job. Anyone had a great experience with a different surgeon? Would be grateful for any thoughts!
Thanks.

@Joliblonde thank you for your reply. I think he also now needs to operate on my cervix, which is making me very anxious as none of the options seem favourable. You didn’t have yours done did you?

Joliblonde · 06/10/2023 08:08

Your uterus/cervix can lower during the process of a prolapse then Prof Khullar removes the cervix- Yes, I had my cervix removed - I can explain why, if it hasn’t already been explained to you. I know it all sounds scary - but I much prefer living without a prolapse or a pessary.

Nikki x

@Joliblonde i’ve discussed with him we’re not 100% sure we’ve completed our family, so a hysterectomy isn’t an option sadly. X

Looking back at my much earlier message I would just like to add for anyone who is nervous and wondering if Vik Khullar is the consultant for them - he is excellent! He has a lovely, warm manner and you feel he really cares and wants to do the best for you. I saw someone else recently on the NHS for a checkup and he was quite unfriendly and didn't seem that interested. You are in good hands (forgive the pun!) with Vik Khullar!

@SashaMichaela thanks, it’s so helpful when people report back! Did you manage to get good aftercare with him? I’ve always found him so kind and compassionate but hard to get hold of! I’ve been offered the sacrohysteropexy with mesh by him as I want to preserve my fertility but I’m having a big wobble about mesh and I’m due my op in 3 weeks! Need to have another chat with him about options

Was this the Manchester repair ie removing all or part of the cervix ... Jolyblonde

Yes - no need for pap tests any longer 👍🏼

Hi @Joliblonde, saw Prof Khullar after 6 weeks and he did a urine test and found I had a slight infection. Prof Khullar was, as usual, very friendly and nice to talk to. However my GP had to prescribe painkillers just after my op and later vaginal moisturizer to help with healing. Later I went to see a women's health physiotherapist and she said I should ask the GP to prescribe vaginal oestrogen. All in all, I would recommend him as he is an expert and also very sympathetic, but you might need to supplement his aftercare with a visit to the GP and a women's health physiotherapist.

Sorry this reply should have been for @rainbow

@Joliblonde thank you. I’ve got a private pelvic health physio lined up that I’ve been seeing previously to help with after surgery. I’m really worried about going into severe spasm after and not getting help with it as I’m already hypertonic, eek! Hopefully all will be well 🙏 I just want to close this chapter now!

Thank you Jolyblonde
