That's that really...

I'm 37+2 with my first and was wondering what I could expect. Everyone's different of course, but was just curious..

Just over 2 hours. About 20-30mins was pushing.

Marabou · 26/04/2011 13:25

Thanks LittleMumSmall, good to hear the hypnobirthing thing really works!

It really does seem like everyone will have a complitely different experience. I feel for you who've had it longer and more painful than others!

First twinge 7pm friday eve. Needed TENS from 6am the next morning, into hospital at 9.30am so gas and air from then and then DD born at 2.30pm. 1.5 hours second stage. So 19 hours in total but hosp notes say 5 hours! About 7 hours of actual pain I'd say.

marylou242 · 26/04/2011 17:14

Mine was pretty long, 5 days early labour, 12 hours proper labour including 2 hours pushing stage. But it was fine. I also recommend hypnobirthing. I'd give birth once a week rather than be pregnant, can't stand it!

Marabou · 26/04/2011 18:33

Wau that's quite a lot to say! Hm, who knows, maybe I'll feel the same way after giving birth :)!

Woken by contractions and a show at 6am.
About eight hours of spaced out contractions which I could cope with - played Scrabble in between!
Into hospital to use gas and air when they were closer together.
About 8-9 hours of increasingly strong contractions.
Second stage about 2 contractions - took the midwife by surprise when baby tumbled out onto the bed in one go!

It can be a scary, wonderful, overwhelming, shocking and happy experience all rolled into one - that's how I would describe mine.
Good luck with yours!

kw1986 · 26/04/2011 19:06

8 hrs. 1.5 hrs was pushing DD big melon head out!! lol

AnaYorks · 26/04/2011 20:51

Just over 3.5 hours from 'hmm, I wonder if that's a contraction' to baby making an appearance, of which just over half an hour was second stage. Went into hospital after 2 1/4 hours as was finding it difficult to cope with just TENS machine, fully expecting to be told I was only a few centimetres dilated and should go back home (I thought I had a low pain threshold!) - I was 8cm! Natal hypnotherapy really helped me, as did the TENS, although I think the speed of the labour was perhaps the biggest contributor to my positive feelings towards the event - I didn't really have time to worry/do anything other than deal with each contraction as it came.

PavlovtheCat · 26/04/2011 20:58

established labour no idea, was 7cm dilated when I got to hosp.

ChasingSquirrels · 26/04/2011 21:01

Waters broke sunday morning, started contracting around 7ish sunday afternoon
took till tuesday morning (2am) to get to 5 cm (thats when i went to hospital lol,
still 5cms at 17.00 tuesday, transfered to hospital 12 miles away,

got to 10cms by 9pm started pushing absolutly nothing happened finally had dd with epidural/forceps at 23.58 tuesday night, from start to finish was a little over 60 hours, but having said that

my mum went to her antinatal appointment with me (her first) with slight backache and she was 8 cms had me in just under an hour, so everybodys different

Boobz · 27/04/2011 09:05

Contractions started Tuesday evening, veerrrry long latent stage; finally 4cm dilated (and 100s of contractions later) at 4pm on Saturday afternoon, DD born at 6:15am Sunday morning (at home).

So about 80 hours latent labour, 14 hours established labour and 35 mins pushing (second stage).

God I'm knackered just thinking about it.

DD2 was 6 hours start to finish though (also at home), so hang on to that thought.

frakyouveryverymuch · 27/04/2011 09:27

Contractions started Weds evening, approx 6 hours early labour, went to hospital (baby's position was uncertain and even though I thought head down the compromise was hospital for monitoring after 6 hours of regular contractions), labour promptly stalled for 4 hours as I was stressed. Then went from 2cm to 6 in about 2 hours, then roughly 3 hours from 6cm to birth. No idea how long pushing etc was - the only times I remember are 7am, 11am, 1pmish and 4.30pm. It didn't help to clock watch.

Sirzy · 27/04/2011 09:31

I went in to be induced at 8am on the Wednesday morning, not a lot happened waters broke and onto drip at 11.30 on the Thursday night, baby born 5am Friday morning.

BeeMyBaby · 27/04/2011 14:54

5 and a half hours all in. Midwives kept telling me how lucky I was that it was going so fast but I didn't feel all that lucky at the time. I know of course now that I was extremely lucky.

MagnumIcecreamAddict · 27/04/2011 15:06

48 hours on and off prelabour, not really painful, but enough to wake me.

5 hours 40 mins first real contraction to delivery, got to hospital at 7cm, not enough time to fill the birthing pool before delivery! Gas and air and TENS, felt in control the whole time.

And I'm convinced this really good experince was massively helped along by natal hypnotherapy - without a doubt the best thing I did! Though of course luck did also play a major part Wink

NoWayNoHow · 28/04/2011 14:07

50 hours from water breaking, 44 hours from first contraction.

Pain went from doable with TENS to completely unbearable 19 hours after first contraction, and 8 hours after that I was given epidural and induced as I was only 1cm dilated despite contracting every 60-90 seconds.

Another 14 hours later, I was told to push. Pushed for 2 hours, but DS was completely stuck. Ended up with doctors yanking on DS's head with ventouse for 1 hour.

Pretty fucking dreadful all round, really! Grin

boardbaber · 28/04/2011 14:11

From waters breaking to delivery, 3 days!!

moodymama · 28/04/2011 14:20

72hrs from starting contractions to emergency caesarian.

There will be no 'next time'.

NoWayNoHow · 28/04/2011 14:24

moodymama can I get a "hear hear"!! Wink

Royalcucumberchopper · 28/04/2011 14:27

12 exactly, pain from 9 am till 9 pm, tWas a loooong day, I feel that had my waters been ruptured earlier for all three the births would have been quicker!

Very tough membranes I seem to grow!

I would scythe average for first babies births that i've attended is around 10 hours, and generally speeds up when membranes rupture, via ARM or naturally.

Some women do have 1st babies quickly tho, I'd stay at home as long as possible if I were you!

Good luck!

NotTheOneWhoIsntTheOtherOne · 28/04/2011 14:32

About 22 hours. To break it down

15 hours of that was completely bearable- was at home just pottering around

So that leaves 7 hrs, of which

2.5 hrs at hospital, again just wandering around
0.5 hrs in a lot of pain (waters broke, DS went back to back).
0.5hrs having epidural etc
2 hrs dozing waiting to get to 10cm (this bit was great!!)
2 hrs pushing
