Not sure what you mean SueW? Are you suggesting she didn't have a baby or something? Actually I'm almost certain that Lucy Atkins is a sometime mumnsnetter who has posted before about VBAC and offered advice to others in her position on this very site - for free! So she's writing a book - she's a writer! That's what she does. And she's written the article for the same reason as she's writing the book, because she had a great experience and thinks it's a timely, topical and interesting subject.

BTW, this is exactly the sort of thing I meant when I posted some advice recently on the journalism thread. An unusual personal story is often of interest, particularly if it is topical.
There's a new report out about the benefit of Doulas, Davina McCall had her baby naturally with one to one support, so Lucy offers to write about her experience of using one to achieve a VBAC. Topical, interesting and totally appropriate for both the section (Parenting) and the publication - ie Guardian, rather lefty, organic and green and feminist = perfect story. Watch and learn all budding journos!

She wrote the article for Junior mag recently on circumcision, and prior to that 'spoke' to mumsnetters about it. She gave me a lot of good advice & points to consider, which I shared on a board & I think a lot of people found her info useful.

Mind you, the thought of someone seeing me 'huge, naked and bellowing' is IMo the sort of thing that should only happen in particuarly terrible nightmares - the kind where you wake up all sweaty and profoundly glad it isn't true

aloha · 30/09/2003 15:53

As for finding a woman I could be comfortable with when I'm 'naked and moaning' - er, sorry, that person does not exist!
Interesting article though, even if it does make me even more glad I had a section!

Lucy Atkins is a mumsnetter - Sleeplessinseattle... she did have a doula and she also wrote a piece on doulas for Junior P&Birth.

The article came when this study came out.... she does write for the Guardian.... and I am not sure that the book will be out for another few months in the UK...
