HI, I am a first-timer and 35 weeks of uneventful pregnancy....DP keeps nagging me to pack a hospital bag...he's been doing the nesting thing for me...I have never seen the house so clean! I keep telling him that first babies rarely come this early, but I thought I had just do a quick survery to see what mumsnetters experiences were! Thanks

35+3 first timer, no sign.

Baby categorically not allowed to arrive before ML starts so I'll be watching this with interest.

Sod's law dictates if you don't pack the bag you'll be caught short though.

I have no kitchen and I'm 37 weeks today with DC1. No early babies for me please!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 14/03/2011 08:01

Dc1 37+2, no signs. No hospital bag either, which was a massive pita. Pack now.

Currently 37+0 with no 2 and hoping it's not so early.

Cyclebump · 14/03/2011 08:05

I have a bag packed, forgot to mention that. I was a little Hmm when mw made me pack it at 36 weeks but every time I have a twinge it's a real comfort to know I have a bag with clean sleepsuits, muslins, nightwear and nappies just in case!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 14/03/2011 08:53

My neighbour packed mine, all a bit too rushed and forgot cotton wool. Hospitals don't seem to like giving you cotton wool.

Bobby99 · 14/03/2011 10:26

My DD came at 38 weeks. No warning, except that my mystic nan informed me a couple of days before the birth that she was convinced the baby was about to make it's appearance! Loads of people told me how unusual an early first baby is, but it does happen to some people.

SarahScot · 14/03/2011 10:30

Are the stats not something like 75% of first babies oare born after 40 weeks?

Or is it 75% of inductions are of first babies?

Sorry, not that helpful Hmm

Crawling · 14/03/2011 10:31

DS two weeks early, no warning.

2madboys · 14/03/2011 10:51

DS1 three days early. Don't go on experiences of siblings either, if you have them, my two sisters have had three inductions and one 'born on the due date' between them!

aliceelinsmum · 14/03/2011 11:15

If its making DP do the housework I'd tell him that the baby could come at absolutely any time and its best to be ready. Might try this on my DH!

Prunnhilda · 14/03/2011 11:18

Yes two weeks early - he was SO welcome!
Lots of friends have been a few days early. About the same as have been late. Due dates can be quite off anyway.

thefurryone · 14/03/2011 11:29

I'm 34 weeks now, would prefer it not to be too early as don't finish work for another 3 weeks and my Mum is visiting for the first week of my maternity leave, and would really appreciate at least 1 week on my own lying on the sofa eating chocolate and watching crap tv!

I know a few people having their first babies this year and so far everyone has been either early or on time.

Regarding hospital bags, I haven't actually packed yet but have a list, all my toiletries organised and a few things in a pile that will go in the bag.

ednurse · 14/03/2011 11:30

No experience but I was PFB and born at 36/40

Abcinthia · 14/03/2011 12:54

My DD was 3 days early. I had the hospital bag packed for about 10 weeks and kept going through it to make sure I had everything. My mum made me do it incase the baby came early or something happened and I'd need to go to hospital.

And I do think it's wise to do it early and just have the bag sat there for weeks rather than to leave it till later and then be caught out.

LiegeAndLief · 14/03/2011 13:47

Well.. dc1, was admitted to hospital at 31 weeks with pre-eclampsia and didn't come out until ds was born at 34 weeks. No bag. Could have done without having to send dh out for maternity pads!

Dc2, bag packed pretty much from conception - she came at 39+6 Smile

speculationisrife · 14/03/2011 13:51

Well, if you're like me you'll have plenty of time to do it while you're in early labour (24 hours on and off), and it'll be a nice distraction. However, I wouldn't advise relying on that Grin. Think I packed my bag at 38 weeks, and dd was pretty much bang on 40 if you count from first contractions.

nunnie · 14/03/2011 16:01

My DD was 6 days early with no warning and lasted 2 hours 20 minutes from start to finish.

Packed my bag at 38 weeks.

Tarlia · 14/03/2011 18:42

I finally packed my bag at 36+5 weeks (though I did have an emergency bag with toiletries and nighty packed from 30ish), which was a good job as 37+0 I had a routine MW appointment and was sent straight to the hospital with PE. My induction started at 37+4 as I deteriorated pretty quickly.

Get packing!!

LuckyC · 14/03/2011 18:43

35+3.

Was completely unprepared.

Had to stop at Tescos on way in to hospital to buy nappies, mars bars. Was already 7.5 cms and therefore in no mood for the two drunk Australian women who were holding up the checkout queue and thinking they were hilarious.

GeekLove · 14/03/2011 19:57

I have had pool supplies in my front room for the past week and midwives HB supplies for the past 2 for DC2's arrival. I am 40+4 and thought I would have a baby by now since DS was born at 39w.

ShowOfHands · 14/03/2011 20:03

Just pack your bag.

100% of MNers could have had their PFBs on time/late. Doesn't mean you won't have yours before 37 weeks (which is full term).

Believe me if you're going to go into labour, it's better to do it with a packed bag.

And if there was a stork involved I forget. But then I was preoccupied by the fact that I was splitting in two. There could have been 3 camels and a lame frog for all I knew.

weegiemum · 14/03/2011 20:07

I was 39+3 with dd1, 37+4 with ds and 36+6 with dd2 (induced).

Pack the bag, it will do no harm!

(I am the only person I know who never went to term or over with any baby, apart from those with problems, mine just decided to arrive which, given their close to 10ln-ness, I has happy about!)

itssnotfunny · 14/03/2011 20:11

dd1 was 2 weeks early, day after i packed in work and had a shit load of magazines to read so i knew how to look after said baby - never got to read em.

oooggs · 14/03/2011 20:13

ds1 36+4
dd & ds2 38+0 (induced)
ds3 38+4

I don't do late Grin
