HI, I am a first-timer and 35 weeks of uneventful pregnancy....DP keeps nagging me to pack a hospital bag...he's been doing the nesting thing for me...I have never seen the house so clean! I keep telling him that first babies rarely come this early, but I thought I had just do a quick survery to see what mumsnetters experiences were! Thanks

In my first pregnancy I packed my bag after I had a shower and called the taxi after my waters had broken (38+4), was plenty of time...

Will start packing earlier this time though, lest my husband gets upset with me...

DS arrived 10 days late after an induction. His head was engaged at 35 weeks and I got tightenings quite early on. I remember the midwife appointment at 35 weeks when she literally said 'things are hotting up!'

Not.

The wait took forever.

But at least I had a chance to get some decent sleep a little bit longer.

My bag was packed at about 36 weeks IIRC.

First child was born at 38 weeks, everyone told me first babies are usually late. I had no bag packed and my waters broke at 1am! Had to quickly pack a bag before going to hospital. Pack it now!

ds1 born at 37 weeks, with no warning at all, though i HAD spent the day up a ladder putting up curtains as we were moving house.... (ds2 then arrived at 42 weeks, imagine how much i enjoyed another 5 weeks of pregnancy)

Sparklies · 15/03/2011 13:50

36w6d with no warning and super fast. I spent a lot of time when I could actually talk complaining about how the antenatal classes had lied.

DC2 was 35w5d.

With DC3 they have scheduled me a c-section for 38w2d which just makes me laugh, frankly!

Eglu · 15/03/2011 13:52

DS1 39 weeks exactly

RueLaChesty · 15/03/2011 23:11

I think the stats for first timers are 15% arrive early, 5% on their due date and 80% after!

FWIW i was 40+6 with both so even the "second babies come sooner" wasn't true with me!

DD was seven weeks early weight 7lbs 4 0z.

DD born at 35 weeks. Complete shock after uneventful pregnancy and no warning signs. I had no bag packed and a fast labour. The hospital rationed disposable knickers and pads (not nice, had to beg for more!!) and I had to sleep in a hospital gown as I gave birth in my pyjama top (not fit to be worn ever again!). PACK NOW JUST IN CASE!! :)

My little boy was born on Sat at 32+4. we were on holiday at the time so our holiday stuff did quite well as hospital bag! I'm certainly glad I had my own things- pjs, toiletries etc, but you can always get stuff from somewhere if needed. I'd just pack it so it's done. From my limited experience!

pipoca · 18/03/2011 19:18

DS (first baby) was born at exactly 36 weeks. Totally uneventful pregnancy, no reason ever determined for his early arrival and didn't need resus or scbu, was just a bit small. I hadn't packed a bag.

Currently 30 weeks with dc2 and bag is packed. First babies aren't always overdue.....

pipoca · 18/03/2011 19:19

as others have said, was also a super fast labour...barely made it to hospital....

samsmother · 26/03/2011 09:30

Packed most of my bag at 35w5d, waters broke at 36w1d just 3 days later! Had made a list of last minute things to pack by the bag ie phone charger camera drinks from freezer etc and packed them just before we left for the hospital !

LLKH · 28/03/2011 16:36

DD born 4 December at 37 weeks and 4 days on the day we planned to go into town to get various baby necessities. She is asleep on my lap atm.

pinksancerre · 28/03/2011 16:39

Dd born 37 weeks. Admitted to hospital straight from antenatal clinic with PE at 35 weeks. Was admitted straight from work!
