My first was born to the sounds of the Hives then when I had tea and toast and a cuddle Glenn Millar came on. I think music realy helped me through the pain.

What is on your list (if you have one, I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea)?

Did any particular song help you through?

Push It - Salt 'N Pepper...

mousymouse · 17/03/2011 20:00

with my first birth the cd player in the labour suite wasn*t working, so we were listening to the radio the whole time. "nothing like it" from lemar was on at least once an hour...

Indaba · 17/03/2011 20:09

Was induced with all of mine....asked them to delay stuff with the third child till I'd finished listening to The Archers.

bluesatinsash · 17/03/2011 20:26

Had and still have a meternity leave/birth playlist on i-POD and it still gives me shivers when I listen to it onr year on. Listened to it the month leading up to birth and twice through whilst in labour. Midwvies kept complimenting my eclectic choice of songs Wink

All my favourite songs past and present were on but the three that meant the most were:

'Rule the World' Take That
'When a Child is Born' Johnny Mathis
'A Spaceman Came Travelling' Chris De Burgh

DS2 was due Chritmas Day and came on 23rd Dec and I'd had had a MMC confirmed on the 22nd Dec the year before so it was a very poignant time Smile

BUT ended up with section so he was born to 'Step into Christmas' by Elton John as it was playing in Theatre (they all seemd a bit drunk tbh Grin).

bilblio · 17/03/2011 20:58

We hadn't done any music. The nurses put the radio on, Galaxy FM. Loads of cheesey 80's which is to my taste... and current pop hits, which most definitely aren't. I'm more of a folk and indie girl. DH and I later admitted that we were both spending the time thinking "Don't give birth to this one", or "Yep, this one will do." Some of them were really funny, but the G&A made me forget them, I just remember giggling about them.

As it was DD arrived at midday in the middle of the traffic report.

Woodlands · 17/03/2011 20:59

I wasn't bothered about music but we did have Radio 3 on all through the night while I laboured in the birth pool. DS wasn't born till the next evening in theatre (forceps) and my DH tells me that Elton John's Rocket Man was playing on the radio - I don't remember. Seems fairly appropriate!

StrawberryNesquik · 17/03/2011 21:00

I didn't have any 'planned' music but the radio was on throughout and DS was finally born to Lady Gaga Poker Face!!! Grin

ladyofthehouseoflove · 17/03/2011 21:14

DS was born to Ras Iyah's 'come to Zion'Smile

No music with DD unfortunately,Dh spent months compiling a playlist but we forgot it in the rush to get to hospital.

Astrophe · 18/03/2011 00:53

DH made me a mix CD while I was in early labour with DD1, and then I lkistened to it whilst labouring in hospital. I can't remember all the songs, but whenever I hear Joe satriani "I'll be with you you'll be with me" it takes me right back (in a good way).

notasausage · 18/03/2011 08:37

Wanted Zero 7. DH said he couldn't find the CD although it was in there with ZERO 7 in big letters. In the end the CD player didn't work anyway! He did bizarrely remember to go back and get the CD from the player as I was rushed to hospital from the birthing centre with a massive PPH!

MerryMarigold · 18/03/2011 11:13

I didn't have any music, but would've found it really irritating. When I was in that much pain, I couldn't stand someone touching me even to put socks on my cold feet! I'm obviously a bad multi tasker, just had to focus on the task at hand, music felt distracting.

But: if you like classical, you could go for something like 'Night on a bare mountain' for the pushing bit (quite powerful, but maybe a bit fast!) and then Vivaldi's 'Gloria' when the baby is out! (Tho dh may be a bit busy admiring new baby to change CD's at the right moment).

nickschick · 18/03/2011 11:15

Ds3 was born to the voice of Labbe siffre and the song 'something inside so strong' .....the next song on the cd was 'sex on the beach' Grin.

My cd of music was borrowed by the surgeon for 3 days Wink.

EveryonesJealousOfGingers · 18/03/2011 12:14

Push it by Salt n Pepa? Wink

EveryonesJealousOfGingers · 18/03/2011 12:15

Ring of fire?

EveryonesJealousOfGingers · 18/03/2011 12:16

Come baby come? :) Or am I in the wrong vein here? I really wanted a comedy labour CD but we never did it in the end, and to be fair we could never have managed 50hrs of music!!!

LionsnTigersnBears · 18/03/2011 13:40

We've got to get out of this place by The Animals?
Blood by Pearl Jam?
The Ramones I want to be Sedated
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Brian May Too Much Love will Kill You?

If anyone had tried to play music at me I'd have ripped their eyeballs out and strangled them with their own optic nerves tbh. But maybe I'm just not nice :)

MerryMarigold · 18/03/2011 13:45

Jealous of Gingers, Loving Salt n Pepa 'Push it, Push it '

Housemum · 18/03/2011 13:57

Can't believe no one has mentioned Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" (runs for cover... Grin )

molemesseskilledIpom · 18/03/2011 14:34

Lol..

If I had my Ipod I would have had allsorts, from metallica, daft punk, the clash, frank sinatra, enya, classical, the rolling stones, the cure, it would have got on my nerves. Although the wire for the earphones would have come in handy for whipping Dp everytime he told me to breathe.

mamjo · 18/03/2011 14:37

I planned a very detailed playlist that was 4 hours in total. Ended up having a section and forgot about the music. So it wax pure luck that the black eyed peas, tonights gonna be a good night was playing on the radio as DD was brought into the world. Wasn't on the playlist but has been added since.

DeeLite · 18/03/2011 15:31

I had a 2.5 hour mix tape which I'd put together for running a marathon 9 months previously so it had lots of upbeat house music on it.

Turned out the running marathon was a bit of a cake-walk by comparison to the childbirth marathon and a few upbeat tunes were not enough to see me through the latter. I'm not sure I'd even bother packing music next time. Sorry if that sounds defeatist.

Chestnut99 · 18/03/2011 15:49

Seriously? Music? I just listened to the buzz of the tens machine, the endless slow-breathing counting in my head and then later on to my own howling (didn't know I had it in me!).

dizietsma · 18/03/2011 16:12

Spiritchaser by Dead Can Dance is really good for going into yourself in labour- . Bit lentilweavey, but that's what you need sometimes Grin.

As is anything by UNKLE, weirdly enough. I listened to the album that , Never Never I think.

Basically anything epic and sweeping.

insertexpletive · 18/03/2011 19:09

My friend insists that she started singing when she was 10cm dilated!

Well, the chorus anyway...

howdidthishappenthen · 18/03/2011 20:25

My sister suggested 'Here come the girls' (Boots commercial) for my C-section for DD1 :-)
