Something that has been bugging me about my c-section

When preggo with DS1 I skimmed over the c-section info in the book. I wouldn't be needing it as my birth was going to go to plan (yeah right).

With DS2 I didn't even bother reading the labour pages but ended up with emergency c-section. So I was totally unprepared.

Anyway, I read all the info after. It mentioned if you go to c-section they will shave you down below. Also not to worry about scar as it will eventually covered by your pubic hair.

They didn't shave me, and my pubic hair would have to really grow some cover my scar. Like grow up by at least another inch (I'm already wild down there, so it's not a grooming thing).

I feel lied to a bit.

My scar is well above the pubes too, but I find my flabby overhang hides it nicelyGrin

Did get a nasty trim with a blunt bic for the ops though.

TreeHuggerMum1 · 28/02/2011 21:53

My flabby bit covers it too but I was shaved, the noise will be with me forever, it sounded like a lawn mower bu turned out to be this diddy hand held thing...

KristinaM · 28/02/2011 21:54

my scar is below my pubes. and they did shave me, but only the top bit

5 years on it blends nicely into my wrinkles

Bideyin · 28/02/2011 21:54

Mine is well above the pube area too, and very squint!

DelicateFluffyBunny · 28/02/2011 21:54

I have two c-section scars (from 3 c-sections) and both mine are well above.

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 28/02/2011 21:54

Everybody is different, depends on where your hairline is and the share of your bump! I wouldn't worry about it, unless the scar is very high it should still be covered by a bikini. Oh, and shaving is only done in surgery if the incision needs to be through the 'hairy area' so you must be neater than you thought!
Hth.

missmakesstuff · 28/02/2011 21:57

My pubes grew back into my scar...not nice, very painful actually. And can still see it very clearly, it seems huge, but thats probably because my belly is huge! I shaved as dd was planned c sect, but it's certainly not covered.

Also feel lied to!

TreeHuggerMum1 · 28/02/2011 21:58

Mine is also wonky, not a nice straight line like I would have hoped, a bit squiff!

TheSleepFairy · 28/02/2011 21:58

My scar is only just in my pube line, I've had 3 sections so it's a long scar now.

I wasn't shaved the last time but was shaved the first 2 times.

I wasn't cathaterized the first time, I was the second & it was dreadfull so I refused it for my 3rd.

Changebagsandgladrags · 28/02/2011 21:58

Yeah my flab overhang covers mine too Blush

Yay for the flab!

Meglet · 28/02/2011 22:03

They shaved the top inch off mine. But the scar is still way above the hair. TBH I'm quite fond of the scar. And I'm quite ruthless with my bikini waxing so it's going to show wherever it is.

After 2 cs's the scar was a little wonky so when I had my hysterectomy the surgeon said he'd taken a cm or so of skin out so it knitted together neatly. My own mini tummy tuck on the NHS. Am I a bad shallow person? Wink.

BagofHolly · 01/03/2011 00:45

Not shallow at all Meglet! My scar is right on where my public bone is, so as low as it could be. I had a planned cs so had time for a good tidy up and it's now well below the hairline. My fabby surgeon removed the scar from my first cs and pulled the skin together to make a neat single scar without any overhang! What a great man! The stitches were tiiiiight but in the long run it's worth it!

lovenamechange100 · 01/03/2011 00:58

Hmm when i trim neatly scar is visble but DH never notices I keep is attention elsewhere!

anyway when i feeling fat (like at mo) I just wear negligee (sp?) that kinda covers all but is you know ....

It must be still low enough for bikini if thats what you worroeid about - sorry if I assummed its was sexual appearences - ref to my onw and all...(currently TTC)

thelittlestkiwi · 01/03/2011 01:05

I had an elective C and had about an inch shaved but it is still a bit above the line. So it can't be about having to get your DC out fast. Mine took about a year to fade to a silvery line. I'm just grateful I avoided what would have been an unsuccessful labour.

SeeJaneKick · 01/03/2011 01:09

My scar was crooked from the off...it's like a tick shape! It was an emergency and I like to imagine the surgeon had his elbow knocked by the panicky young midwife who had been with me!

When I had my 2nd (elective) they followed the crooked scar!

Another one whose pubes grew into the scar!

[ouch]

ChunkyPickle · 01/03/2011 01:10

No shave, also more than an inch above here, but I think of it as a war wound so I don't mind.

Am I the only one grateful for the catheter - didn't even feel it (obviously not going in, but not coming out either) and it meant that I could get myself nice and hydrated, sit feeding the baby, and not have to move for a few hours..

lovenamechange100 · 01/03/2011 01:20

Oh yes catheter was fine agree there chunky pain when it was took out having to shuffel long and'sit' for first time, cushions to loo an all1 Grin but I never forget meeting women with a bashed up foo outside one time, I just hugged my cushion tight.

WorzselMummage · 01/03/2011 01:36

Mines at least an inch below my public hair line.

Oh your youngest was born the same year as me 1944girl! I have seen a scar like yours on my Aunt...I'm not bothered about mine tbh...it's there...it just is what it is and I've always been glad they had the know-how to get the babies out.

valiumredhead · 01/03/2011 09:34

I think it depends on the shape of your bump and who does the section tbh. I had the top half shaved and my scar is SO neat you'd be hard pressed to find it - it looks like the crease in your palm. I put this down to 2 women delivering my ds, one of them being 5 months pregnant - I think they just took great care with stitching.

I had no problems with the catheter either - didn't feel it going in our coming out. Can't see unless it wasn't done properly why there would be pain Sad Shock

my scar is above my hairline, but I also have an old hernia op scar which is underneath my hairline. My CS scar is like a purple smile drawn on with felt tip. Well, that's what I tell myself. Do they ever fade?? Not really bothered by it as only me and DH will ever see it...

Meglet · 01/03/2011 18:38

I liked having a catheter too. 24 hours of not having to get up and pee after constant pregnancy look trip = bliss.
