Something that has been bugging me about my c-section

When preggo with DS1 I skimmed over the c-section info in the book. I wouldn't be needing it as my birth was going to go to plan (yeah right).

With DS2 I didn't even bother reading the labour pages but ended up with emergency c-section. So I was totally unprepared.

Anyway, I read all the info after. It mentioned if you go to c-section they will shave you down below. Also not to worry about scar as it will eventually covered by your pubic hair.

They didn't shave me, and my pubic hair would have to really grow some cover my scar. Like grow up by at least another inch (I'm already wild down there, so it's not a grooming thing).

I feel lied to a bit.

LOL :) I didn't mind the catheter so much either - to be honest, I wouldn't have minded if they had kept it in a bit longer as the prospect of getting it out and having to walk was scary at the time and I was getting used to having the midwives at my every beck and call!

My scar is well within the pubic hair but I think it depends entirely on your surgeon. He kept saying "Don't worry, I am doing it nice and low so you will still be able to wear a bikini".

Nice thought, but my biking-wearing days are over! Nothing to do with my cs scar, just middle-aged spread!

I'm guessing the problem with catheter is apparently some hospitals do it before you've had the spinal block, which means you feel it going in and it's really painful. I can't understand why that is some hospital's policy it seems really unnecessary, most do it after spinal and I would refuse to have it done before. I felt a slight popping feeling when they took mine out but it didn't hurt.

I had the top half of my pubes shaved and the scar is very slightly above that.

I wonder if it was his position then? He was tangled in the cord, and it meant he was high and couldn't drop down. Then the contractions were compressing the cord which turned it into an emergency.

I had my catheter put in well before the epidural. I really needed to pee but couldn't. Yeah it was painful, but also a relief.

Yup my scar is wonky, well above my hairline and I was never shaved. But then as with others it was done in a bit of a hurry. It's now faded from an angry purple to a lovely thin silver just 18 months on, and just looks like a little crease. I don't mind it tbh. I also didn't mind the catheter - I think that's a difference between an elective and an emergency section for you! My friend had an elective and was bugging the staff within a couple of hours to have it removed pronto as it was so uncomfy, whereas I hadn't even noticed I'd have a catheter put in until they finally wheeled me out of HDU and into a postnatal ward and asked if I wanted it removed.

I had my catheter in ages before my spinal - it was done by a lovely nurse and she did it so quickly I actually asked her if that was it! Sounds like there should be a bit more training involved if so many ladies are finding it so painful
