Just been to midwife for a sweep, she confirmed that I am 4cm dilated, so surely my wee girl should be here soon. What do you think??

thank goodness I have never had these long labours..at least you have no pain..have you?
when are you due?

Redtartanlass · 15/10/2005 22:22

No, no pain, thank goodness.... due last Monday

1st pregnancy was in labour 6hrs, 2nd lbour about 2 hours.

SpikeMomma · 16/10/2005 20:09

I went for a sweep and they told me i was 3cm dilated. When i got back up off the floor... i said i'd go home anyway. Good job - that was on the Monday, and on the Thursday i got induced. Worth it in the end Red - but i was SO fed up by the end! Best of luck!

Milliways · 16/10/2005 20:20

I had a sweep at 41 weeks, & was 3 cm then. That was a Monday & was booked for induction the following Monday. Had a show next morning. Occasional 1 off contractions for next few days. Woke up on Sunday am, waters broke & only just got to hospital in time. Arrived fully dilated & only needed 1 push for a 9lb 6oz DS (2nd child). Hope yours go this smoothly

auntymandy · 17/10/2005 11:59

any news?
Why do you have a sweep? Never heard of them till on hear and I have 5 children!

Redtartanlass · 17/10/2005 13:23

Went to hospital this morning to be monitored, had ANOTHER sweep, still 4cm!!!

The head is all the way down, and the mw said she expected me back very soon........

Infact she said, any sign at all and come in ASAP, she thinks it's going to be a fast one.

I am just soooo sick of this waiting.....I'm only a week overdue but have been 4cm for 5 days now

Redtartanlass · 17/10/2005 13:26

Membrane sweeping is done by the mw. While internally examining you,she will simply "sweep" a finger around the neck of the womb. The aim is to separate the membranes around your baby from your cervix. This releases hormones called prostaglandins, which may kick-start the labour.

A membrane sweep increases the likelihood that labour will start within 48 hours.

It has to be any day now! Go and buy a pineapple and eat the whole lot

So looking forward to your announcement!

I was 4cm for a couple of days but once I actually went into labour it was only 2.5 hrs long!

Rachey1969 · 17/10/2005 13:33

Best of luck! I bet you just fly through it.

FangAche · 17/10/2005 13:43

RTL - That bairn is gonna just fall out of there at this rate! Hope you haven't got a cold..... sneezing is NOT a good idea right now.

Gobbledispook · 18/10/2005 10:57

Any movement?!

Redtartanlass · 18/10/2005 11:03

Gobbledispook - can you believe it...nothing.

However I do feel emotionally a hell of a lot better and have a lot more energy.

Maybe I'll be like Milliways, wait a week and then pop her out in 1 push!!!!

Thanks for asking

Waters broke last night.....still no contractions. Will phone hospital tomorow.

OP posts:
Gobbledispook · 19/10/2005 13:06

Oh yes, don't phone them yet or they wn't let you stay at home past 24 hrs will they?

Blimey this is drawn out! Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Gobbledispook · 19/10/2005 13:06

Since my child-bearing days are now over, I like to live the excitement through someone elses experience

Redtartanlass · 19/10/2005 13:12

Aww thanks for saying that...everybody is nagging me to phone hospital, but they'll just bully me into another induction wont they.

As long as she's ok, I'm gonna leave it as long as poss....
