My waters broke at home on a Wednesday afternoon, and as I was polyhydramneous (loads of excess water), I'd been instructed by Obstetrician to go straight to hospital in case of cord prolapse.

Once admitted, had a non-eventful, boring 6 hours before contractions started (9pm) - after that, I don't remember exactly when I started the G&A, or when I stopped it. It's all a bit of a blur still, even 3 years later!

I do know, though, that I had definitely moved onto the TENS by 4pm the next day...

Thanks. That interesting. I had sort of the opposite. My waters broke and nothing happened so had a scan and doc said that the womb had sealed back up and the waters had replenished themselves and baby was fine. I went for 11 days before giving birth. Until then I had no idea that the waters replenish every 3 hours. I thought that one your waters broke you were dry as a bone!

Ooh - that's really interesting Ladysoandso!
I had ARM because after I had a hindwater leak the hospital wanted me to be in active labour within 24 hours. Next time I would consider other options before being shuffled off to hospital (I was having a homebirth - which I got because luckily the ARM worked!)

lostinafrica - me too! My labour was 2 hours 5 mins from when I thought it started. 20 mins from when midwife figured out I was in labour!

How quick will this next one be!?!

thell - I hope it helps you or anyone else in the future. I mentioned it a few times and not many woman seem to know. I was also having a HB so my midwife sent me for the scan and it was the doctor who told me to hang on for a few days. During the 11 days I had very strong braxtons - coming between 5 and 20 minutes, every night for 8 hours. In the morning they would stop. On the 11th day they started again all through the night but didnt stop so we called the mw and when she got there I was 7cm's. She said I had done all the hard work with the braxtons. That was why I was concerned at my sil who went to hospital at the very first twinge. I told her to hang on for a while but they were so keen to get there. When she got there the contractions stopped so they gave her pethidine and ended up with a c section after a distressing 30 hours. Im no expert and I know it's annoying when mums turn into 'experts' and witter on about how THEY did it but I honestly think she just went too soon.
