Just wondered, 2nd DC overdue 40+1 and been thinking about birth ALOT! My "official" labour with DD1 was 18 hours from active labour.
Hoping to drastically reduce next one Hmm

Wow, gourd, was that your first? What an ideal birth!

Mind you with my speedy first baby, it was all over so much quicker than I'd expected that I sat there, shocked, saying, "Well, my thumbs are sore, but otherwise I feel fine." I'd been gripping the bed so tight!

catbus · 18/01/2011 20:01

DD1: 21 hours
DD2: 9 hours
DS1: 5 hours
DS2: 3 hours

All born at home, all with maximum 4 minutes pushing time. DS2 came a bit full on fast really: still in shock 3 months on! Grin

TettyLouBar · 18/01/2011 20:33

Well I'm still here! 40+2 today. Sad Thanks for the posts ladies. Grin they're keeping me positive that this birth will be at least a little faster? Confused

I do sympathise: all my first 3 DCs came bang on due dates, but DC4 born 41+3: must have got waaaaaaay to comfy: he is nestled here on me now in sling; just think, it won't be long, although it feels like forever! Good luck with your birth Smile

TettyLouBar · 19/01/2011 09:23

40+3 Sad nothing new happening

Yes lostinafrica it was my 1st - probably only child. Still can't shake off my long held dream of having a slightly larger family of 2 or 3 kids, but partner not keen on another and I'd rather spend the money we have on the one we've got than struggle with two. Really hated being pregnant too.

NancyDrewHasaClue · 19/01/2011 09:30

Counting from when I knew I was definitely in labour (is that active -anyone know?)

DC1 - Induced 15.5 hrs (3hrs 35mins pushing due to no theatre for section Shock)

DC2 - 18 hours but lovely

DC3 - 7 hours but was pre term so didn't need to fully dilate.

Hoping for less than 5 this time. Well a girl can live in hope! Grin

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/01/2011 09:35

nancy less than 5 DCs, or less than 5 children Wink

DC1: 35 minutes Shock not fun
DC2: 8 hours. lovely
DC3: will be induced, probably at 38 weeks.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/01/2011 09:35

nancy I meant less than 5 hours

TettyLouBar · 19/01/2011 09:40

ilovemydog 35 mins?!?!? WTF?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/01/2011 10:20

hyperstimulation. It was after the last pessary and since apparently it didn't work, they scheduled a c section for the next day, and then it all happened.

TettyLouBar · 19/01/2011 12:24

wow, thats ridiculously fast, you must have been in shock! Shock

  1. 13 hours
  2. 6 hours
  3. ?

I did hear of someone who made a cuppa, then went into labour and had her baby, and the cuppa was still warm enough to drink!

DanceInTheDark · 19/01/2011 12:35

DS1 3.5 hours start to finish at 39+6 8lb 1

DS2 30 mins start to finish at 40+4 including him getting stuck. 8lb 14oz

DS3 5 hours at 38 wks 6lb 11 - but went to hosp before contractions started when i just felt a bit odd because i needed continuous monitoring. If i had been able to move it would have been quicker.

StrangewaysHereICome · 19/01/2011 13:51

DD1 - waters broke then nothing for 13 hours. 5 hours latent and 5 hours active and 20 mins pushing.

DD2 - waters broke, nothing for 12 hours, 2 hours latent, 4 hours active, 10 mins pushing.

DC3? - due in five weeks!

I wonder if this one will follow the same pattern or be completely different - we'll see. I could do with less time spent walking around leaking though Wink!

ThatllDoPig · 19/01/2011 15:03

woah dancein thats amazing.

DanceInTheDark · 19/01/2011 18:30

if by amazing you mean fast furious and bloody painful then you're right Grin

TettyLouBar · 19/01/2011 19:12

There is something to be said for the longer labours giving you time to realise the situation and that your about to have another baby I guess!
My SIL had two very fast labours and I think the shock of the speed of everything took a while to get over! Hmm

DS - 24 hours of sheer hell ending in mid cavity rotational forceps.

DD1 - 6 hours. Lovely.

DD2 - 8 hours. Water birth again lovely.

Cambridgeferret · 20/01/2011 10:19

DD1 1hr 23 minutes
DD2 1hr 13 minutes

Which was a problem as we live 30 minutes' drive from the hospital.

galwaygal · 20/01/2011 21:06

DS1 - more than 12 hours. (9am friday started contractions, born at 6pm saturday, but not sure when I went from latent to active labour)

DD - 2.5 hours, 5 days previously of stop/start contractions.

DS2 - 1.5 hours, was typing on mn when it started! Was fast and furious, ended up being an unplanned homebirth as we live an hour away from the hospital, and for the first half hour, I did not realise I was in labour!!!!

NoWayNoHow · 20/01/2011 21:21

DS was 44 hours!

After 27 hours of G&A, TENS, two doses Pethadine, no food, and no sleep, contractions were every 60 seconds, but was still only 1cm dilated!!! Confused

Drs told me later that they should have done CS right then and there (20/20 vision, hindsight, hey? Bloody idiots). As it was, went on to have epidural, another 14 hours before I could even push, 2 hours of pushing, and 1 hr 20 mins of Dr yanking poor son out with ventouse, cutting his head open in process.

Oh, not to mention episiotomy and 3rd degree tear!

Unsurprisingly, there will never be a second labour!! Grin

ladysoandso · 20/01/2011 21:30

NoWay - that sounds horrific! Why didnt you eat??? Or sleep??

NoWayNoHow · 20/01/2011 21:45

Couldn't eat cos G&A made me nauseous. By time I moved to TENS, I was in too much pain to think about food, and re: sleep, that wasn't going to happen with such frequent contractions! At least when they gave me the epidural later, I got 4 hours cat napping before MW examined me! Epidural literally saved my life!

ladysoandso · 21/01/2011 08:34

NoWay - were you on G&A from the start? Im interested because my sil had an awful experience as well and talks about her '30 hour labour' but imo she went to the hospital 10 hours too early. Just wondered what your circumstances were.
