I was in hospital both times but am now expecting no.3 very soon and wondering if they might break on their own!

Mine was in hospital once I'd been having contractions (frequent and regular) for a couple of hours. I'd got to the hospital as they were 3 - 4 mins apart but I was only 1cm and they wanted to send me home. I refused as I knew I would progress quickly and sure enough within an hour my waters broke and I was 4 cm. DD1 was born 4 hours later

I was at home in bed when they broke but somehow managed to get to the toilet before any fluid came out

Giddyup · 03/11/2010 08:53

In the pool about to push!

pirateparty · 03/11/2010 08:56

In bed, just falling off to sleep.

sarahbuff · 03/11/2010 09:00

DC1: Didn't break until he was crowning, inexperienced/new midwife too nervous to nick them for me so made me push until they broke. Not a nice sensation, like trying to pop a balloon inside me (plus I thought I was pushing him out already and was a bit disappointed that it was just the waters! His head was out next push/contraction, though).

DC2: Waters didn't break until crowning, lovely experienced midwife gave them a quick nick then I pushed out DC.

DC3: Waters broke whilst I was walking back to the bed from the loo in hospital, I jumped on the bed in surprise, DC was crowning already. Had been checked 20 minutes before and was 5-6cm dilated!

This pregnancy (39 weeks yesterday) baby keeps bouncing on my cervix and it feels like my waters might go on their own! Will have to wait and see.

I'd been having contractions but wasn't sure if it was labour or just trapped wind so went downstairs to eat. 'Contractions' continued so I went upstairs to wake DP just to let him know things might be starting (was night time). Climbed onto the bed felt a pop, bubbles and relief and thought bugger it was just wind and there were my waters.

Thankfully I had a plastic sheet on the bed.

Exactly the same story for both labours Grin

I had an emcs, so was robbed of any comedy membranes rupture moment! Surgeon broke 'em on the operating table.

I was fully though, so reckon they'd have stayed in tact until the last minute like srahbuff!

katiepotatie · 03/11/2010 09:10

In the middle of the livingroom floor the first time after having a bath.

In bed the second time, managed to get out and stand on a towel before fluid leaked. Contractions started immediately afterwards both times.

Good Luck Grin

ceebs05 · 03/11/2010 09:37

In the bath after having contractions for a few hours. Pain instantly became much worse and DD born 4 hours later.

pinkpeony · 03/11/2010 09:56

Sitting at my laptop in the study early evening at 38+1, with no prior warning... Labour started next morning and DS born in the afternoon.

MiniMarmite · 03/11/2010 10:58

At my neighbours' dinner table Blush!

ShowOfHandsInEpistolaryForm · 03/11/2010 11:01

Sitting on the sofa eating chilli. No warning at all.

NormalityBites · 03/11/2010 11:08

Alone in my house, on the toilet, pushing.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 03/11/2010 11:14

yy my labour immediately became more intense when my waters broke too. DD was born 10 hours after and DS 3 hours after.

NoahAndTheWhale · 03/11/2010 11:17

With DS had been in hospital for a few days as had suspected pre-eclampsia. On Thursday night was told they would induce me on Saturday - at about 6:30am on Friday I woke up to a lot of water in the bed Grin.

With DD my waters were broken part way through labour.

anonymousbird · 03/11/2010 11:21

In the delivery room, and then it was push time, immediately the waters had gone.... both times.

DeadlyNightShadeofViolet · 03/11/2010 11:22

With DS1 they broke in Sainsburys Blush

With DS2 they had to break them while in the labour suite.

With DD my waters broke in bed - I woke up thinking I had wet myself Blush Blush

DanceInTheDark · 03/11/2010 11:25

DS1 they were broken for me in hosp bcause DS1 couldn't get any further as the bag was HUGE! he was born 1 push later.

DS2 as he crowned.

DS3 was 'born in the bag' kind of. They popped as his shoulders came out.

anonymousbird · 03/11/2010 11:34

Deadlynightshade - is it true that the supermarket gives you free shopping if your waters break?!?!?

DeadlyNightShadeofViolet · 03/11/2010 11:45

I didnt get anything but a cup of tea from the cafe while I waited for the ambulance. I think you would have to actually give birth in the supermarket :o

lucykate · 03/11/2010 11:47

with dd, i was at home laying on the sofa, after an hour in asda wandering round hoping they'd go there so i'd get some free food Wink

with ds, the midwife broke them. i asked her too as i felt it was slowing things down. i was right, out he shot!

LadyInPink · 03/11/2010 11:51

Mine broke down the gym - didn't even get a free membership Grin . Should have been in M&S or Boots as they give out lots of goodies to mums whose waters break in their store!

chestnut100 · 03/11/2010 12:48

mine was in the midwife's office at my 40 week appointment; enormous show and rupture of membranes in the corridor; queue lots of terrified looking women convinced i was going to give birth there and then! Labour didnt start until a good 15 hours later

hawesmead5 · 03/11/2010 13:31

My waters broke in bed with DS1
DS2 was a very fast birth(40 mins) MW rushed through the door broke the waters and he was born on the next push. She said the waters were very large and if they hadn't been hubby would have been the one who had to deliver him about 10 mins earlier!

becko · 03/11/2010 13:40

In Costa Coffee on my due date. Didn't even get a free coffee! Did stay to finish my cake though before walking home...
