A mears teaser for you - what happened next?

Remember I did a teaser for you about a feeding problem a few months ago?

Here is a childbirth story for you and see if you can guess what happened next. I will be back with the answer later. Real life story...

A midwife colleague asked me to look after her in labour. Her first baby was an elective C/S for placenta praevia during which she haemorrhaged badly and needed a blood transfusion.

What she hoped for was a waterbirth and a 6 hour discharge back home.

She called me last night thinking that she might be in labour and she wanted to be examined before she went into the hospital. Her contractions were irregulaer 2-3 every 10 mins and she felt quite short lasting. She had had a show and was using a TENS machine. She was nervous about labour and was not sure she would be able to cope when the contractions got stronger.

She was also bouncing on a gym ball when she got a contraction but was coping really well.

She was delighted to hear she was 6cm dilated and off we went to hospital....

What do you think happened next...

There is hope for me yet! What a great story to read, mears, especially for those of us who had traumatic first-time births and poor first-time bf'ing experiences!

Lucycat · 12/09/2005 14:06

Well done mears! sounds like you had it all under control.......pass on our congrats to mum and babe ahhhh

Can i go and watch the cricket now?

KateF · 12/09/2005 14:08

That is such a lovely story and you sound like a great midwife . Much better than that rubbish on "the other thread".

Enid · 12/09/2005 14:08

aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

Marina · 12/09/2005 14:09

Lovely news. Am envious of the rather brisk VBAC and relieved for you that it was her car.
Many congratulations to all concerned

Pixiefish · 12/09/2005 14:10

Lovely story mears

GeraldGiraffe · 12/09/2005 14:11

Ahh, that has given mne the warm fuzzies.

chloe55 · 12/09/2005 14:14

Where is this 'other thread' people are dissing? I'm bored and want something interesting to read - not that anything could top that story mears!

KateF · 12/09/2005 14:17

Don't even go there chloe - just some barking mad woman with a weird child who won't let her thread be laid to rest!

anorak · 12/09/2005 14:21

Who better to be driving you to the hospital when this happens? There's only one M-E-EARS!

aloha · 12/09/2005 14:23

Blimey - thank goodness it was you there and not just some shellshocked minicab driver!

gingerbear · 12/09/2005 14:24

storyline straight from ER or Casualty. Well Done Mears!

mears · 12/09/2005 14:40

She opted not to have 6 hour discharge as she was in a state of shock and needed time to recover. I phoned today and the staff said she has not 'come down' yet - is totally high on how well she did

Is planning to go home this afternoon.

and explain hte sheet!

Twiglett · 12/09/2005 14:41

ahhh... well done Mears and Mum

am I the only one who found the vision of baby 'still attatched to mum by cod' quite snurk-ful pmsl

mears · 12/09/2005 14:45

Don't know why it was there - it was a blanket type thing. Mum was concerned about putting it on the seat because it was 'manky' - you should see it now.

I stupidly hadn't reminded her to take a towel or something incase her waters did break in the car. Afterwards I realised I sat on the front seat on the way back to the layby to get my car because I went with her in the ambulance with dad follwoing behind. Seat must have dried in.

edam · 12/09/2005 14:57

Wow, bet that's one you won't forget in a hurry. Are you going to write it up for a journal?
Congrats to you for being a fab midwife (as always!), and to mum and baby.

fishywart · 12/09/2005 14:59

mears · 12/09/2005 15:03

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 12/09/2005 15:33
